1. Bought a Mackie mixer from Dennis, which got to me despite the courier's best efforts to destroy it, thanks in no small part to Dennis's robust packaging! A great guy to deal with, fast, friendly communication, thoroughly recommended. Thanks!
2. After reading the above article on the reissue, I was moved to give Headstock (Ibanez distributers) a call to see if any were going to land on these shores, and they told me there's an unspecified number allocated for the UK, coming in June/July, the nearest stockist to me being GAK in Brighton. Suffice to say I was on the phone to them a bit sharpish, and have now placed my order! I doubt if they'll be as good as the original, or match my unreasonable expectations, starting as they did as a 17-year-old in the late 70's, with my nose pressed up against the window of my local music shop, mouth agape, drooling... Everyone form an orderly queue, now... apart from 1970, he's sorted...
3. Lovely. Are those Rotosound TruBass you've got it strung with?
4. I traded a bass with Pete today, in one of those surrupticious meetings in a motorway service station with onlookers wondering what on earth you're up to! A really lovely guy, who took great pains to make sure I was happy with every aspect of the bass I received. Buy/sell/trade with confidence.
5. Original? 50's? The words "my" and "arse" come to mind.
6. That's a very long screw in the G string bridge saddle. I wouldn't fancy one in any case, so I'm guessing really! Can someone who knows about these things put us put of our misery?
7. Dear God. If I could afford road crew, I'd buy that!
8. Andy bought my Markbass LM800, and was a pleasure to deal with, a really friendly guy. Highly recommended.
9. Tim bought my TC BH250, paid immediately on agreeing the sale, and was a pleasure to deal with. Recommended!
10. Dave made me a instrument/in ear combo cable that I didn't even know existed until I saw someone comment they got one from him. Outstanding quality, and a great guy to deal with. Thanks!
11.
Really..??? Never been asked..?? That is surprising... IME.
Nope. Never. Clearly we move in different circles!
12. Artistic considerations aside, I would be more worried that the seller's got a negative after only 3 transactions...
13.
But if you got offered a gig that required you to read, then you'd have to be able to, or you wouldn't get it, kind of makes it necessary.
But I never have, that's my point. It could be argued that I would if I did, but I refer the honourable gentleman to my previous answer...
14.
From what I gather the people doing the calling have a fairly good idea about who has what skills or know someone who knows someone else who knows who can or can't read/play jazz/upright bass/etcetc, which is why you haven't had those calls rather than the gigs not being out there to get?
No, I just don't move in those kinds of circles - if I was an aspiring West End musician for example, it would certainly be mandatory. On that premise alone, you're right, I wouldn't get a call, but then I wouldn't be interested in that kind of gig either.
15.
As a professional it's a necessary skill to have, incase you're presented with a notated chart.
Desirable perhaps, but not a necessary skill. It all depends on what kind of gigs you might get a call for. Suffice to say in 40 years of pro and semi-pro work, I've never been asked to read dots.
16. Hand written notes and chord charts imported into my iPad mini, on a goose-neck holder on my mic stand. One day I'll learn how to use forScore....
17.
Hi..Any indication [stamp/paperwork] that this IS a USA model?...cheers
It seems that only the USA models were made with a J/MM pickup configuration, a well as the serial number being without a BXP prefix, the lack of a 'Crafted in Indonesia' stamp on the back of the headstock, and 35" scale was also USA only. The serial number can be confirmed via the Peavey website. I hope that helps. The bass is now for sale on eBay, if you want to discuss it further please PM me.
18.
sold?
Yup, just sold today, pending payment. I'll let you know if it doesn't go through for any reason.
19. I've been called to 'a mother' on a few occasions, but as I'm a middle-aged bloke, I don't think that's what they were referring to... However, I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment! Happy Mother's Day, Mums eveywhere.
20.
Not too good. Everyone bar me rates the drummer. He's from a jazz background, has excellent timing and is very competent around the top of the kit. BUT, he doesn't us the bass drum properly - no oomph and nothing to dial into. He's too busy doing twiddly bits on the cymbals. Feels as if he's playing along half the time. Could be time to hand in my notice.
...or you could diplomatically share your feelings on the matter, with the option to hand in your notice if no notice is taken?
21. For sale is my TC Electronic BH250, as new, boxed with manual and mains cable. A year old, but used only a handful of times in rehearsals, never gigged. Great sound and features, in fact I liked to so much I've just bought a BH800, hence this sale! £150 including UK shipping. Sorry, but I'm not looking for any trades.
22. For sale is my Little Mark 800, bought last year as a 'B' grade from Thomann due to a few marks on the casing, shown in the photos. Comes with a mains cable and also a Markworld padded gigbag bought new at the same time (worth £40) complete with shoulderstraps! Great sounding amp, very reminiscent of my old LM250, but just with loads more power. Selling as I have another compact amp that suits my cab setup better, and I can't really justify keeping both. NOW SOLD pending payment. That was quick.
23. Takes me back. I never had a double neck, but I had both fretted and fretless Shergold Marathons back in the late 70's / early 80's.
24. Yum! Anyone got Mike Rutherford's email address? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shergold-Custom-Double-8-String-4-String-Double-Neck-Bass-UK-1980/141595790819
