1. When I was playing metal, clarity was the most important thing in the amp tone for me, I had to fit in with two guitarists playing in drop B with high gain amps and a fast and heavy drummer. I would suggest keep the bass as sounding as clear as possible, with potentially a little drive, though not saturated, to help cut through; to this end, EBS/Gallien-Kruger/Hartke would be who I'd be looking at depending on budget and taste.
2. I have two G&Ls - a USA SB2 and a Tribute L2500; up until about a month ago the SB2 was played all the time, but since getting the L2500 in a trade, I can't put it down and have barely picked up the SB2, looks like I'll be sticking with five strings for a while to come.
3. I posted that Warwick on Facebook as well and my mum thinks it looks like a poppadom, and one of my mate's reckons it would suit The Thing from Fantastic Four:lol:
4. I'm 30 and gig fairly regularly in a covers act, aim to be out once a week, but averages 2-3 shows a month at the moment. I had considered jacking it in recently though, as I feel like all I've done since we started playing together again in July (our singer went travelling for the first 6 months of this year) is argue with my wife about me playing. She really struggles when I have to leave the house before the kids go to bed, particularly as our youngest was going through a phase of just not going to sleep for a couple of hours after being put to bed. She also hates that events - Christmas, New Year, Halloween, bank holidays etc are all prime times for booking a band, and so she's left on her own while at these times of year (Boxing Day was a particular sore point) whilst I'm out working. However, I need the money and the recent gigs have been at more civilised times, I suspect this is a problem I'm going to have every year during the summer when it's prime wedding and party season until the kids are older
5. How's about this [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/FB_IMG_1442262076241_zps0jxy9vzy.jpg" class="ipsImage" />
6. The Glockenklang - you can add warmth, you can't add clarity
7. Commission sale? That's a little less than I'd expect to pay for one on here, so a good price from a shop.
8.
I'd love to see them make an album with someone like Kevin Shirley, who has done great stuff for Iron Maiden : making them record backing tracks live, playing as a band, for example, as opposed to pro toolsing the arse out of every last snare hit. I get the impression he doesn't give a sh*t about reputations, and a bit less fawning in front of Hetfield and Ulrich might generate some friction, which in turn could lead to something great. Telling them straight that they are passed it, and inviting them to prove otherwise would be very interesting!
Absolutely this
9. I finally finished watching the Reading footage last night, I'd agree that's it's definitely the best performance I've seen them give for a couple of years now and bet it would have been fantastic to be there. On the downside, the set-list was a little heavy on the 90s material for my taste and as has been remarked above, Kirk and Rob's solos were just god-awful. Hammet's playing really lacked something to be desired in several places - he was out of tune in For Whom The Bell Tolls, One and Fade To Black, a bit sad really, but maybe his hearing's really shot.
10. Yeah, I found EBS Sweden very helpful, my local guitar shop were really struggling to get a replacement switch for one of their pedals from the UK distributor; so I e-mailed EBS Sweden and got a reply from their technical director about 10 minutes later.
11. I wouldn't know about cost I'm afriad, but I was thinking about EBS repairs this morning as my HD350 seems to have developed a fault where it suddenly goes silent at gigs without warning. When I had a Fafner 1, the bulb behind the valve died, so I contacted Bernie Goodfellow at GB Guitars in Brighton, who was at the time the UK distributor. He replaced the filament bulb with an LED cluster. I was planning on giving him a call and seeing if he can take a look at it for me, particularly as I've had experience with their current UK distributor recently, and they seemed to be hopeless.
12. I love Green Burst [Img]https://www.upfrontguitars.com/images/P/L1505-full.jpg" class="ipsImage" />
13. Not managed to listen to the whole thing yet, but I'm distinctly underwhelmed at the moment
14. We're playing in Haywards Heath tonight, don't think we've played here before, so friendly faces are always welcome United Services club, Haywards Heath, RH16 4EG, 20:30 start
15. Dave Grohl refers to bass as "my favorite instrument to play standing up"
16.
The bass Newsted uses in that solo extually an Elan, I have an "almost replica" of that one: https://www.youtube....h?v=xjP-5sf0kAw
Very nice! Having looked at the Alembic price list I dread to think what it cost :s Someone told me before it was a Spoiler, so thanks for correcting that
17.
No worse than any other bass... Imagine accidentally whacking a tone control of an East equipped bass up to max or down to min... The effect would be just as unusable. I reckon a good few non Wal users get a bit phazed by the differences with a regular boost/cut preamp. However, it's surprising how intuitive the Wal tone controls can be when you play one for a while. Frankly, I'd be more worried about accidentally knocking the tone controls on my Audere equipped Frankenjazz (which I also love).
Fair enough, like I say I've never played one Though as a big Tool fan, I'd really like to change that
18.
Metallica - St Anger. Seriously.
I agree, I've been listening to it again the last couple of weeks and I really like it, it definitely trails off in the second half, but the first half is a cracker. I've also come to the conclusion that I love the snare sound, it's just so raw and really suits what they were trying to do on this record. I also think it's the best kick sound Lars has ever had. It's just a shame that neither Jason or Rob played on this record, as the bass is a bit un-inspiring
19. Could it be to do with the pre-amp? I've never had the pleasure of playing a Wal, but I get the impression it would be very easy to knock the controls and change the sound into something unusable.
20. I think it's reasonable to offer it to you as an unpaid gig, equally it's reasonable for you to turn it down.
21. Looking forward to watching that tonight on catch up. The recent performances of theirs I've seen, it seems like they've just been going through the motions, so glad this was good.
22.
