  1. Cheers, looks great - though aesthetically I feel like it should have Nordstrand Big Singles in it
  2. Just realised I've not posted in this th read, which is an oversight. Me and my DJ5
  3. Which model is that?
  4. arrghghh, the top-right tweeter makes my brain itch..........
  5. Like Wal, his filter pre-amps and multi-coil pickups are only available when buying an ACG bass. John East makes the pre-amps for ACG and you can buy the EQ01 filter pre-amp from him, but it's more basic than the EQ02 you can get in an ACG bass.
  6. Metallica on the Shattered Justice tour Cave In, pretty much any era, but the Jupiter tour would be best.
  7. I had a Hartke cab that rattled, turned out that a great big upholstery staple had somehow got attached to the tweeter magnet, so when played at loud volumes - in this case at a recording studio - it was enough to shake it off the magnet, only to be pulled back on again. It was a shame we didn't find that at the studio, as the Ampeg cab I rented to replace it didn't sound as good
  8. I switched from a 34" 5 string (G&L L2500) to a 35" 5 (Lakland DJ5) last year and found the transition very easy; however, now I find 34" 5 strings feel weird, which is a shame as there are fewer 35" models on the market. What is your budget? Lower than £1500 obviously, but what sort of money are you talking about
  9. Well, not really - I did think when reading the transcript and the singer was saying how heavy and thick the bass was, if you want a light bass, don't buy a US Lakland 🤣
  10. You feel the band's too big, but it contains a I think there's an easy solution there, particularly when they don't handle the bookings and the band also contains a
  11. On the post Lakland said they'd only just sent the bass to him before the gig, so was probably one of the first few times he'd used it.
  12. I think you're probably right there.
  13. Just saw this on the Lakland Facebook page, the bassist for Jason Aldean the country act who was shot at in Vegas last year got their kit back from the police and found a bullet lodged in his 55-94 😮 It must just bring it all back, how close the band were to being murdered along with so many others.
  14. People holding up phones infront of me at gigs does annoy me, but I don't like the idea of this for two reasons: Firstly, I want to get out of a gig as soon as possible after the last song, I may have a couple of hours journey to get home and if I'm up in London will most likely be dependent on public transport, I don't want to hang around waiting for someone to open the pouch for me so I can get off. Secondly, I often go to gigs on my own, so I like having my phone to entertain me between bands when I have no-one to talk to. I've made concious decision these days not to film or photograph at gigs, as I was looking back through photos from a festival and really struggled to work out who was in each photo, made the whole thing a bit redundant. I do think that if venues/artists want to reduce the number of people filming at shows then the way to do it is more pro-shot footage. If I know I can access this or a similar set on YouTube, why bother filming it on my phone when a much better quality version will be available online? Saint Vitus Bar in New York have put several well shot, full sets on YouTube of small(ish) bands - the likes of Converge, Sumac, Russian Circles and Origin; if they can do that for bands of this sort of size, larger bands/venues should be able to.
  15. I played one of the Proto705s - the older model with the more Fender style headstock - in a London shop about 10 years ago, it was great and I wanted one for quite a while, indeed my current Lakland DJ5 is pretty close in specs.
  16. Clearly Volume 4 has had some influence over the years, I love the into to this track "This is one called Losing All". No Phil, I think you'll find it's called Supernaught 😀
  17. A great record, but not as good as the 3 that preceeded it (IMO, YMMV etc etc); Under The Sun is my favourite from this album. It's a shame that the bass tone sucks compared with BS/Paranoid, but then I guess that's cocaine for you.
  18. I'm loving the look of that, less than I was expecting too
  19. I struggled with this myself recently I came to the conclusion that it's best to just ignore anything around a song you like; so long as your enjoying it don't worry about anything else.
  20. That's interesting......particularly as a new Cort GB75 is just £545 at Bass Direct....
  21. £600 for an American Professional or £800 for an American Elite Fender? Something's not right there.
  22. Head, cab, pedalboard, backpack under the stairs, five strings in cases in the dining room, four string on a stand in the bedroom.
  23. I liked the first one best, will look forward to seeing which one it was.
  24. I would assume he wanted to be able to get his sound on stage using the amp, but without affecting the FOH sound, which would be controlled by the engineer. So, he'd have a Darkglass sound through the PA, but one mixed by the engineer to fit the overall band mix, and a Darkglass tone onstage for his monitoring, which he can make changes to without screwing the FOH mix. If the whole mix sucked, then that's down to the engineer, and/or members of the band refusing to compromise on "their" tone to suit the band as a whole
