1.
Just watched Metallica's documentary Some Kind of Monster so giving St Anger another listen to.
I don't think St Anger is that bad, I like the production and the first half is pretty decent. It goes downhill on the second half, but it doesn't deserve the reputation it has and I'd certainly rather listen to it than the new one. There are some god-awful lyrics on it mind.
2.
I have been toying with the idea of going as it's under 1 hour drive but I'm shattered after work and have the house to myself today. Enjoy the bass bash
It's next week old chap, hope you can make it then
3.
Recently I bought and old EB180 combo that looked very 'road worn'. The black carpet had mould growing on it, unknown species of animal hair, and the previous owners cat had scratched off the carpet entirely on one side. It had genuine mojo through hard use over a long period of time. I paid £30 quid to take it off the owners hands as he perceived the wear as excessive and had trouble selling it on. After a re-cover in new black carpet it was transformed & looked like new. I had no trouble selling it on for £120 within a few days. The point is amps and cabs that look beat up usually have had hard use, been neglected and are less desirable. Relic'd instruments are fashionable these days but I suspect a lot of players prefer well kept and good overall condition amps and cabs and will try and protect them from damage. Good condition usually increases resale value. There are exceptions though, something like a road worn SVT and 810e with no tolex on the back and sides might appeal to some. Also, how something sounds can sway a decision in my experience but if it looks good it generally does help. I can't think why someone would want to spend a lot of money on a deliberately road worn bass cab for their rig at new retail prices. It would be interesting to gauge whether relic'd amps and cabs was more of a guitarist thing than a bassist thing. I feel a poll coming on
Where did you get the cab re-carpeted? Or did you do it yourself? My EBS has got a certain amount of cat damage which I'd love to get repaired if possible.
4.
Here's an interesting challenge - can anyone name a band that all of basschat will agree are NOT overrated? S.P.
Queen maybe? I'm sure someone will disagree though - that's what the internet is for
5. Definitely agree with The Smiths, would add Joy Division to that too
6.
I am Dave
I thought you were Martin
7. Those Lull T-bird pickups are fantastic, some of the best I've ever heard.
8. One of our regular public venues last night, was a bit of a surprise when we arrived and found they'd removed the stage, however there was a lot more room in the space we set-up in though, so a good change I think. It was a very good gig overall, with people dancing from the first song. I'm very happy with my new set-up - no amp on stage, just DI through my EBS Microbass. As with the last couple of gigs at this venue we dropped the break, and as we got such a good response to soundcheck we just started. As a result we played for nearly three hours straight (so getting closer to Blue's sets), including two genuine encores. Tiring night, but it was cracking.
9. I had a first generation Compact, was very happy with it when paired with a Genz Streamliner, but I fancied a change back to EBS so swapped the Genz for a HD350. I found that the bright control on the head did nothing with the compact and so sold it for a Neo 2x12, the HD350 is much happier paired with an EBS cab.
10. I'd say there are some sub-genres where old valve amps like Sunn, Hiwatt etc are quite desirable - doom and post-hardcore jump to mind.
11. Didn't work on mobile - said .pdf was an invalid format which is odd as I've downloaded pdfs before :s
12. Being able to sort or search the basses for sale forum by number of strings would be a very useful function.
13. Mono, small footprint, not rackmount http://www.demeteramps.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=62&product_id=92 Not cheap either
14.
Aw... you had to go and spoil it! I'm bowing out of this one - getting bit too serious for me. Sorry if I offended anyone's sensibilities. SO sorry, but ya cant fight coincidence. A old friend of mine from Tennessee posted this on her facebook timeline today. Presumably because of all the fuss over civil war statuary etc. http://theferalirish...ml?spref=fb&m=1
The Feral Irishman's willingness to refer to a specific historical battle won by King Arthur, does not bode well for the accuracy of the rest of the article.
15.
I sold my old camper van to a guy who was the keyboard player from some 90s dance act (D ream or something, can't even remember). Never having been a fan of dance music I had to sort of nod and say 'yeah of course I remember you' which I didn't. He was telling me how he had learnt to play loads of stuff and was trying to work out if the back seat was wide enough to practice the bass in. I had my old one from when I (very) briefly messed about in my late teens so he tried it out and bought the van. Would be better if I could remember who it was, I know they had had a few number ones.
Professor Brian Cox was the keys player in D-Ream wasn't he?
16. Would it be worth approaching the guys at Status about a talk? History of the company, use of graphite vs wood, notable players - that sort of thing?

18. So, made a few changes recently, gone from this: To this:
19. I once drove half of Rotting Christ, including the bassist, to a festival in Leeds after the organisers had their original driver drop out at the last minute. I subjected them to my band's album, they were polite about it, which was nice as the lead song writer was a big fan of theirs.
20.
No but I have an OFD too which I like. I'm used to the programming as I have a Manta too and love it. My new drive is a combination of the Micro Fuzz and Black Dragon distortion from SFX Sound - the folk who make the Micro Thumpinator. Very nice tones out of this thing.
Oh I saw that, it looked really cool. I did consider it, but thought it wouldn't get clean enough for me on the drive side.
21.
I have an Orange Juice and have to say it's great. Particularly when you consider its size and price. The tone of it is pretty scuptable to suit a variety of tastes. I've just bought a SFX Sound 2-in-1 distortion/fuzz from The Twickerman of this parish though. So far it's sounding great and is so convenient to have two fine tuned dirt sounds in one fairly compact box. With regret I may end up selling my Orange Juice soon!
Is that a Soundblox 2 OFD? If so, that's what I've just sold and replaced with the Orange Juice and Big Muff, the tones were great but I found the programmable nature of it too fiddly.
22. Why's the fifth in parentheses on the major 6/9?
23. So, off the back of this thread Ian (Bigwan) sold me his Orange Juice and I used it at last night's gig. It certainly did what I asked for and made my tone a lot more agressive, possibly too much, but I think that's because I had to change settings half way through the gig and didn't get a chance to put it back. I can't get over how small and cheap these are, it seems like a Tech 21 Leeds in a much smaller, cheaper box. I've a Deluxe Big Muff coming in the post this week, so at next weekend's gig I'll have that for the heavy drive and the Orange Juice for the light.
24. As Dad says, it's a limiter; I've always left it switched on.
25. Available again
