  1. If I came into £2k, the temptation to blow it on a set of IEM would be tremendous, but I would resist and put it towards a new boiler. Non-musically and non-house related? I'd put it aside so the wife and I could finally have a honeymoon (been married six years in June) once smallest child is old enough to stay with grandparents.
  2. A mate of mine's guitars were stolen from his flat in Glasgow, a white '74 Precision and his Blackmachine B2. Given the scarcity of Blackmachines out there, hopefully he'll see it again, but sharing incase anyone sees anything.
  3. Certainly better for my wallet this way 😁
  4. There's a Status showroom in Brighton? This is dangerous information, I thought they were based in Essex though?
  5. I got my Lakland back from the guitar shop who were re-stringing it yesterday, the difference in sound is night and day - there's actually articulation on the B string now. The whole bass sounds like a blanket's been taken off the fretboard.
  6. Drowning Pool's Bodies I don't think I'd want to play the Pistols version at all, let alone in a pub
  7. I feel Whizzed Off when it's time to play that one, god-awful song as far as I'm concerned, but the singer likes it Bodies, Killing In the Name, Holy Diver, No-One Knows, Rebel Yell and NIB are ones that often go down well, people like the ones they can sing along with. Also, as these songs aren't the sort you often hear; so when, for instance, a Faith No More fan hear's From Out Of Nowhere, they're normally quite chuffed to hear it from a pub band, so that always helps. Here's a video from the last time I played with them
  8. Here's the setlist of a band I've depped for in the past - they have a female singer, albeit one with a very low voice Motorhead - Ace Of Spades Sabbath - Paranoid Sabbath - NIB Metallica - Sandman Stone Temple Pilots - Sex Type Thing Stone Temple Pilots - Plush Stone Temple Pilots - Crackerman Iron Maiden - The Trooper Judas Priest - Another Thing Coming Velvet Revolver - Set Me Free Velvet Revolver - Slither Therapy? - Screamager Therapy? - Nowhere Slash - Bad Rain Staind - It's Been A While Avenged Sevenfold - Shepherd Of Fire Queens Of The Stone Age - No-One Knows Led Zeplin - The Immigrant Song Foo Fighters - All My Life Dio - Holy Diver Billy Idol - Rebel Yell Police - Message In A Bottle (rocked up) Megadeth - Symphony Of Destruction Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name Drowning Pool - Bodies Royal Blood - Figure It Out Blondie - Hanging On The Telephone Faith No More - From Out Of Nowhere Ugly Kid Joe - Neighbour Anthrax - Got The Time Nirvana - Breed Texas Hippie Coalition - whizzed Off And Mad About It Stiltskin - Inside
  9. The HD350 is such a good amp though, I reckon it's got to be one of the best fully solid state amps made
  10. Those (EPDS170-5SL) are the ones I went for, though with a .130 B I like a bright and clear tone, so it sounds like these should fit the bill
  11. Favourite sounds, I do love a Mellotron, some wonderful, mournful tones available there. I once saw a folk duo who mixed hurdy-gurdy and cello, which worked brilliantly
  12. I really wanted to replace the strings on my Lakland DJ5 with the same Lakland stainless set it came with, however they have no distributor over here, so the only option was to import them. Given the shipping cost was going to be the same price as a set, I decided to wait until I'd been paid for NYE and then order two sets, to amortise the shipping across two sets instead of one. New Year's Day, I sit down to order my new strings (the ones on the bass now being deader than a Norweigan Blue) and found a bug in their website that wouldn't let me progress the order past the delivery address page. So I gave up and ordered a similar set of D'addarios through my local guitar shop, they've got my bass now to fit the strings and I should get it back next weekend; hopefully I'll like them as much as the Laklands. To the OP though, just be glad your girlfriend doesn't play a 5 string, with a 35" scale and through body stringing 😁
  13. 4 strings 5 strings with a 34" scale Valve amps I'm loving my DJ5 still and 4 four strings and 34" 5s feel wrong, I'm definitely a solid state guy. At the moment........
  14. I do know what you mean, seems wrong somehow, but it might be the easiest way of getting a 5 string, through neck P
  15. Something like this? http://www.emgpickups.com/bass/extended-series/5-string/40p.html It's a P pickup in a soapbar enclosure, so you could have more luck finding a through-neck bass to install it in
  16. I would trust the luthier - you're paying for their expertise at guitar construction 😀
  17. The B in the middle 8 is an open Low B on the original recording. I used to tune 4 strings down to BEAD, as I was in a metal band who tuned to drop B, but I don't get on with drop tunings. After leaving that band, I kept at least one bass tuned like that, as I found it was like having the advantages of a five string, but with the feel of a four. These days, I just play five strings instead 🤣
  18. Ukeleles, can't stand the bloody things. Particularly when played by waif-like indie girls, performing fey covers of 80s hits for mobile phone ads.
  19. I enjoyed that, but I was a bit disapointed with the (broadcast) setlist - Treasure, Runaway Baby, When I Was Your Man, Locked Out Of Heaven, Grenade, The Lazy Song, Just The Way You Are, Marry You were all absent, I don't think he played anything pre-24K Magic?
  20. It sounds like thhe crappy bass was the issue, rather than the B string - but if you don't need it, you don't need it 😀
  21. I'm planning on saving for an MXR Envelope Filter over the mext few months. Other than that, I'd like to trade my G&L L2500 in for a 35" scale 5 string, but that'll be looking out for the right opportunity as I won't have a lot of money to put into a trade.
  22. Typical social club - not loads of people, most of whom congregated at the bar, a few people danced for a few songs but that was about it, so felt like hard work, especially for NYE. Then at the end "everyone loved it, will you play New Years next year?" Errr......okay then......
  23. Caught some of it last night as they had the TV on for the fireworks at midnight and then after we finished - sounded amazing and looking forward to watching it on Iplayer later. I've watched a couple of their sets on TV before, but last night sounded fantastic and as the OP said, the perfect band for NYE. I've yet to see them live, but really, really want to. On the plus side, the rest of the band are now up for a Nile Rodgers medley 😎
  24. A social club in Kent tonight, it's been a bit hit and miss at that venue, bit it should be good on NYE. However, I'm not looking forward to the hour's drive home after a late finish 😐
