I'm currently running an HD350 into a Neo 2x12, in the past I've had a Mk1 Fafner and Proline 4x10 I'd say tonally, the Proline cab just edged it, but I've not done an A/B comparrison and from what I remember there was little in it - they both sound great, just different flavours of great. However the weight difference is immense, going to the car on Saturday I had the 2x12 in one hand and my HD350 rack in the other. I remember the Proline 4x10 being a two hand, preferably two person lift; being roughly the weight of a small moon.

Two gigs yesterday, both joint 60th birthdays, first one for a set of twins, the other for a husband and wife. There wasn't a lot of space on stage at the first gig as we were in a marquee in the garden on the singer's home made stage; it's a great stage, but depending on who we have on drums, and therefore the size of their kit, it can be a bit cramped. Fortunatley the singer has recently upgraded his monitors, so I put the EBS rig back in the car and used my little GK MB500 as a pre-amp into the PA. It sounded good on stage, apparently good out front too. It's a good amp, but I prefer the EBS sound, so I suspect I'll be after a Microbass II at some point for similar situations. The audience enjoyed it, even though the rain stopped any dancing, was a good gig. I didn't enjoy the second gig so much, it was in a horrible sounding room at a hotel, so I couldn't get a good sound all evening, that coupled with the inevitable requests to turn down and fatigue from the first gig made it less fun. Nice people though and when they did get into it, the audience definetly had a good time.

Interesting they've built in octave and reverb effects, don't see that often.
Annoys me that when women do stuff to ex husbands / lovers, it's because it was she was 'upset or angry' and is often viewed sympathetically by others, somehow justifying the destruction. Think clothes ripped, wine given away to strangers etc etc. Whereas if a man did anything similar he would be locked up straight away - funny old world ain't it?
In fairness, the article does say the woman has been arrested.

As I have both a new bass and a new sofa, it seems like time to post my collection here Left to right: G&L L2500 Tribute, G&L SB2 USA, Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones 5
That good endurance. You'll need it if you ever come to the States and do a standard bar gig. You'll play the 2.5 hours take a 15-20 minute break then go back and play another 2 hour set Blue
I would like to do one of your 4.5 hour sets for the experience, not sure I'd want to do it every week though

Two great gigs this weekend, Friday was our annual perfformance at the summer party for Young Epilepsy which is a school for sufferers of Epilepsy and associated conditions. It's always a really fun gig as the audience is so enthusiastic, we had great sound too which always helps - we often seem to when playing outside. Saturday was a local venue which is always busy for us, plenty of dancers and one of the bar staff said at the end of the night "you guys are always good, but tonight you really killed it" which was great to hear. Without meaning to, we didn't take a break, just played through for 2.5 hours; I think that helped as it kept the momentum going. My new Lakland continues to impress, it sounds fantastic through my EBS rig and is just so easy to play. I ended up taking a solo during Forget You on Friday night and it felt so easy to get find the notes I was looking for - I felt like Jerry Barnes (though that would be mostly in my head )

When this happens...and Bernie Goodfellow is a life saver
Graham replied to bassjim's topic in General Discussion
I've just moved to Eastbourne, will be avoiding that venue Bernie is a top gent, he repaired my HD350 recently at a very reasonable rate, would absolutley recommend him. Also, having tried one of his Spitfire 5 strings at the South East Bass Bash last year, it's on the list of basses I must own at some point. -
Given what happened to the character who wrote the song he was singing in the books, those of you who aren't fans of him should be pleased
-
Holy moly, just stunning - I will own one, one day. Until then, I'll just keep looking at yours

It is lovely, the band are really happy with it too, which is always a bonus.
I bet he just fancied having one built, perhaps for some recording (although apparently the new album is "95% done", and Warwick said, have it for free if we can do a video. Who wouldn't say yes to that, especially if there's no exclusivity claus. Bet the p'ups are Nordies take on the Wal p'ups, interesting. I like how the video is shot, whoever put it together is obviously a fan of their videos, or certainly done their homework. Si
If Nordstrand have made multicoil pickups, I'd certainly be interested in hearing them
-
A bit missleading of Warwick to use the studio version of Schism over that video. I'm intrigued by those pickups, not seen those before.

I'm not normally a fan of all black basses, but that looks really classy.

I was stood next to the desk for Cannibal Corpse once, every instrument sounded great........except that bass which was completely inaudible, to the point where I wondered if it was muted in the FOH. Alex Webster is one the very best bassists in metal and the only times I could hear him was when he hit the strings a couple of times between songs and during the bass break in Hammer Smashed Face, really disappointing. The worst bit is that the person on the sound desk was their tour manager, so presumably they sound like this all the time, it really puts me off seeing them again.

I bought a Lakland bass from Colin, the communication was great, he packed it really well and let me know the tracking payment details promptly, a pleasure to do business with.

Just got in from my first gig with this, and my god what a wonderful instrument. It seems to match up with my EBS brilliantly, got that clear, tight, punchy tone I love; the articulation in the tone is so clear - nowhere to hide poor playing. It's also just so comfortable to play - the neck is a superb and the PLEK'd set-up just let me dance across the fretboard. I was coming up with new fills and changing riffs on the fly, it's a really inspiring instrument which has jumped to the number one spot in my collection.

The bass ia great, but I'm wondering if there's an issue with this batch of cats? It seems to spend most of it's time asleep
-
Received this Darryl Jones 5 today, it's a great bass - light, comfortable and sounds just like a jazz should. My practice set-up is a bit bland, so can't wait to play this funk machine through my EBS at tomorrow's gig. I'll see if I can get some video of it then [Img]http://i.imgur.com/f6ZSFpf.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> [Img]http://i.imgur.com/OU2tFbI.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> The cat is pleased with it too [Img]http://i.imgur.com/ilqioox.jpg" class="ipsImage" />

If you want it slimmer, why not consider getting a luthier to shave it down?
-
Just booked a ticket for Winterfylleth, Wiegedood and Necronautical in September, some black metal goodness to look forward to.

Punters wanting to talk to you when you're playing.

A couple of years ago at a garden party, an Eastern European bloke comes up to me mid-song and sticks £20 in my shirt pocket Him - "play <inaudbile>" Me - "what?" Him - "play <inaudbile>" Me - "What?!" Him - "PLAY <inaudible>" Me -"WHAT?!" Him - "PLAY LADY IN RED"* Me - "Don't know it mate" And handed him back his £20, he had an utterly bemused look on his face, astonished we couldn't just pull a random song out of the air. The exchange always makes me think of the Iron Maiden B-side Message From 'Arry *his requuest wasn't actually Lady In Red but it was something of that ilk
