1. Just wondering what is limited edition about this? Looks like a ordinary MIM P with some star stickers. Did Fender do that? Just Googled "Fender Starburst", but all the links led to standard looking sunbursts. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=290491905473
2. I can't believe this hasn't been discussed before, but I can't find anything. The question is - what are the easily visible differences between the different eras of Fender basses? Things like headstock logos, position of serial number, shape of neck plate. If the easy answer is buy a book, which one?
3.
The higher he pushes his Opening Bid price, the more worrying that (0) feedback gets ...
Except that the higher he pushes the opening price, the less likely anyone is to bid on it.
4. Done some more investigation. The source of this is WindowShopper, a browser addin by Superfish. It's designed for US shopping sites, so pretty useless here anyway. I didn't install it, but it came by stealth with the IETab Plus extension. Apart from the annoying popup, listings were taking forever to load, waiting for Superfish.com. Easily removed though, either block superfish.com with Adblock, or removed IETab Plus. There's an unofficial version with the nastiness removed.
5. Go down and have a look at the for sale forum. Not to buy, just to look at all those beautiful basses being endless bumped from page 3 to the top of page 1 and back again. That's what happens when you try every bass in the shop and find the perfect one for you (this week). Then go on eBay and buy the first one you like the look of. It'll be fine.
6.
I know there is probably no answer to this but here goes. How can I overcome nervousness. I am new to the bass and at the moment only play to myself in front of the computer, but the minute anyone comes into the room to watch I go to pieces. In my day job I have meetings in top boardrooms, meet and have discussions with all types of people including top celebs etc. and have no problem at all, but the minute I pick up the guitar................. Why is this?
There's a big difference between playing in a band, or any kind of public performance you're prepared for, and having someone walk in while you're practising. The context is all wrong. I don't know if you rehearse business presentations, but some people do, out loud, in front of the bathroom mirror. If a family member walks in on that, it's going to throw you.
7. Isn't it better to widen the pocket rather than sand down the neck?
8. I had a weekend for two in Bruges in February. It was f'in' freezing.
9.
Absolutely loved the 'Yes Album' and then Wakeman arrived and it all got a bit messy. Always been a Bruford fan since though.
That's how I feel. One clear memory from 1971 in Bristol is Bruford playing his solo on the stage. Literally, off the drum stool, floorboards, monitors, anything that stayed still long enough he hit.
10. Isn't this a benefit of using Paypal? The buyer can send a set amount of sterling, but the account is debited in Euro at the current rate. Actually I'm sure you have the option to do that with a bank transfer too. In either case there's a fee, and a choice over who pays it, so that complaint against Paypal doesn't apply. Doesn't help a transaction that's done, but for the future, good idea to specify the terms on which the payment is made in advance.
11. I've noticed more high end gear on eBay too. I'm sure there's an element of people liquidating investments while the going's good. London bus syndrome - well maybe if one Ken Smith goes for a good price with a lot of interest, it sets some of the other KS owners thinking.
12. Just noticed the "see similar" icons that have appeared on all pictures on eBay. Apart from the resulting mouseover popup, which is a pain in the a***, does it strike anyone else as very unfair to sellers. If you've paid to display a picture, why should eBay use it to send your potential customers to someone else? When I tried to to find an email link to raise this with them (not that they take any notice) a picture of a customer services type woman showed up on the page, with a "see similar" icon on it. Of course, I tried to follow that link, but it said it couldn't find any more deals on nice young ladies for me to consider.
13. I'll get my coat.
14. On the basis that companies manufacture in China because it's cheaper and Chinese workers accept lower pay and conditions, and the resulting increase in profit lifts the share price and the CEO's bonus, I find it quite hard to feel sorry for them. Or am I just a mad old Marxist?
15. Slightly puzzled why you would want to trade for another P bass if you don't like the neck. I've got a CIJ 51 RI P, but I doubt if it's going to be any easier on your hands.
16. I wondered why Warwickhunt was so excited about the pics. After all, it's just a bass, we see lots of those. Now I understand
17.
Alive Plush In Bloom Rooster creep No-one knows Toxicty Aerials Lithium Sober Killing in the name of Stinkfist Slither Aenima Heart Shaped Box 46&2 Schism Parabola these all form our current set in one way or another, although, to be honest, the last three have not been played live yet, but are ready! looking at that - think i need to suggest more Tool!
I want to do Alive. Singer claims she can't sing it
18.
Spotted the RHCP rip off on first listen of Diana Vickers track. Jason Derulo has been at it for a few songs- In My Head is 'heavily influenced' by GaGa's Just Dance and his latest has most of the verse of Flashdance (What a Feeling) as it's verse. If you haven't heard it yet you'll know it when you hear it! This was the most blatant rip-off in pop-rock I'd heard for a long time- sing the chorus of Pink's You and Your Hand (0.36 in) over this chorus (from 0.33)
The girl in ripped fishnets can rip off anything else she likes. The Pink song is in the Axis of Awesome generic 4 chord medley.
19. Memory is a terrible thing. I'd convinced myself I saw the original lineup with Peter Banks at Bristol Uni union in 1970, but he left in April and I wasn't there then. Definitely saw them at the Colston Hall post Steve Howe, pre Wakeman, which was probably early 1971. The Yes Album is the only Yes album for me. Saw them with Billy Sherwood and Igor Khoroshev at Birmingham Symphony Hall, must have been around 1998/9. That was extraordinary because the acoustics in that place are something you don't usually experience with a rock band. Bit odd having a second guitarist. Howe, with his zimmer frame with 15 guitars strapped to it, let Sherwood have one solo in the whole set. Generous. Also saw the orchestral tour in 2001 at the NIA. Just found online review of that with people online complaining about not getting Gates of Delirium. They got Starship Trooper and I've Seen All Good People, don't know what they're moaning about.

21. My take on this thread is it started out with genuine interest and people just asking natural questions. Then it fell apart a bit. Having sold a parts bass for a small fraction of what the parts cost, I sympathise, but the lesson I learned was I wouldn't ever do self build again. Bottom line is, for £1000 you could buy a very nice US Fender which will still be worth somewhere in that region, or more, when you come to sell. And for £450ish you can have a nice used Jap Fender, which will also keep its value. So the maths make no sense.
22.
Not even sure what it's be worth anyway - some help guys? So I can get it insured if I do keep it.
This would give you a clue - inc case and courier though. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-JAZZ-BASS-JAP...y-/200528244519 I was going to offer my 51 RI Precision, but that probably blows it out of the water.
23.
If you read my original post you'll see that I've not criticised the eBayer in any way;
Yeah, I know you didn't. And I understand what you're saying about the buyers. Just that having cocked up the odd mod myself, I do sympathise with anyone who would rather pay for someone else to do it. I wonder if anyone thinks they're getting a Squier Vintage Modified Precision?
24. Is it an input or an output? Surely it's where the sound comes out and goes to the amp to be made louder?
25.
I'll see your Razorlight book ...
