1.
Cant see the ad as the auction ended. Anyone pull the original for me to laugh at?
Click where it says See Full Description. Ebay do that on purpose to frustrate and confuse us. I think this thread is a useful cautionary tale. I wouldn't have expected a picture taken witha webcam to come out backwards, though it makes sense now.
2.
Let him use my Peavey Combo 300 when we supported them in 1997. Can't remember a thing about it. Do I win £5?
[Dalek voice] This is not a contact. This is an agreement. Fill in this slip or you will be exterminated. [/Dalek voice] I Googled the difference between a contract and an agreement. I think it affected my mind.
3.
I'm not about to start reeling off lists of bands I'd like to see, but perhaps they could at least stoop to acknowledge the existence of the metal & progressive rock genres. J.
OK, I'm with you there.
4. Does "replace my 5-string or my spine" suggest some back problems? If so, Marshall or Peavey 4x10s aren't going to help, unless you have a live-in roadie.
5.
I think the problem's more that the lineup of artists each week is safe & workmanlike, rather than the actual performances. Dull songs performed by dull musicians will still be dull, regardless of how on-form the players are. J.
So, a question for anyone who can be bothered to think of a reply ... Imagine we have the producer of Later on Basschat right now. What would have to be on next week's show to get you jumping up and down with enthusiasm? Or even grudging admiration.
6.
Back on sale due to the buyer needing the bass by today and my courier letting me down.
PM'd. Nice kitten.
7. I wonder if the one-or-two-songs-each-by-several-bands format is ever going to work that well. I know when I play it can be 2 or 3 songs into a set before I've shaken off the sh*tty day I've had, the hanging around, the stuff that went wrong in the soundcheck, so if there's only 2 songs to play the chances are it's going to be a safe workmanlike performance rather than inspired. So, these people are supposed to be professionals and they have more chance of being inspired than I would, but even so.
8. At one time they were trying to drop the auction side altogether, as they had some "research" that showed people didn't like to wait for their tat and preferred fixed prices from "power sellers". I think they've backed off that a bit, but basically the strategy is to become the online equivalent of Pound Stretcher.
9. Looking at Yahoo auctions probably isn't giving you the widest view of the market, as they're limited to a few parts of the far east. In Japan you're within cost effective shipping range of Australia, where the economy and currency has done better in the recession than other places. If I were you I'd look at putting it up on eBay, with the hope of finding some Aussie EUB lovers with money to burn.
10. Another message from eBay T'n'S. "Thank you for writing back to us regarding your buyer who claims that you've posted the guitar to a wrong address." I can't work out eBay staff. Either they employ people with no comprehension skills, or they aren't people at all, but one of those "AI" programmes you used to get on Ataris in the early 1990s. Maybe the idea is to drive all their sensible customers mad, so we won't be so bothered by the nutters.
11. I go through phases of watching things, often just to see what they go for. I feel I'd like to buy something, but I don't know what.
12. Isn't eBay Trust 'n' Safety Dept wonderful? I report a buyer with a registered address he hasn't lived at for several months, which is against their terms & conditions if nothing else. The email I get from them says "The first thing I recommend is for you to phone the buyer and talk to them about this in a friendly way. You can request the buyer's contact information here: " Yes, but if he doesn't live at the address he has registered with you, how will getting his contact details help? Where's the "banging head against wall" smiley? This'll have to do
13. He got shirty, so it's over. Reported invalid address to Ebay. Checked seller protection on Paypal, and you have to ship to the listed address. It wasn't fretless.
14. Sold a "project" bass on eBay. TBH I wasn't watching the bidding very carefully, but the leading bidder looked ok. At the end, however, the winner has 2 out-of-date positives from 2009, so 0%. Then I get a message from him asking me to send it to a different address from the registered one (in the same town though) and the paypal payment comes from someone else's account. He says he's moved since he last used eBay and the paypal was done by "the Mrs". But her surname's different. I emailed eBay asking if they can verify it's not a hacked account, but haven't had a reply yet. Don't really want to pull the plug if he's genuine, but it doesn't feel right to me and I don't want Paypal taking the money back in a months time. Any thoughts, am I being paranoid?
15.
I'm in for this, don't you hate it when people post stuff you are watching? But then again I have got stuff because people have posted it, swings and roundabouts.
Good luck. I wonder what the reserve is.
16. "The overall effect I was going for was the 70's Jazz look, and I think I nailed it." http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Customised-Columbus-...=item2c58743268
17. We sold my daughter's car on Autotrader, got £800 for it, ad cost £20 for 2 weeks, sold in 3 days. About the same time, sold a bass on ebay for £400, cost £60 in eBay and Paypal fees.
18. I saw that last night. Probably went for £4.00 less than it cost in the Sue Ryder shop. There's quite a few guitars listed in the bass section, but at least they are usually described as guitars.
19. £77 and less than 24hrs to go on this one. Not as pretty as the sunbursts (I think) ... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
20.
The reissue may not have the same decals as the original. There are many things. The best way to do it is to just google different era's and you will notice differences
What I saw from Googling was: Standard Jazz logo is Fender Jazz Bass, no serial or MIJ, 60s reissue logo says Electric Bass, 70s reissue has block inlays. The one I was looking at had dot inlays, serial and MIJ on the headstock and that earthing strip to the bridge. I'm guessing standard, but I couldn't find anything that matched exactly. The headstock looked like an MIM, but Jap.
21. Who needs a kick drum
22. The stickers are real silver and the case is lined with mink.
23.
there's a lot of things and details and there are books. but what you really want - to have some kind of illustrated encyclopedia or something particular at this moment?
I was just looking at an MIJ Jazz on ebay where the description said it "might" be a reissue. And I realised I had no very clear idea how to tell if it was a standard, 50s, 60s or 70s reissue model. Then I did some Googling and none of the headstocks that I saw matched the one I was looking at. So I thought I probably need a better source of information about the Jap models. That's the main motivation, then on top of that there's more general interest in Fenders. The Fender Bass book is going on my Xmas list anyway.
24.
That £100 one was a serious bargain - wish I'd seen that! Jon.
I do sometimes wonder how I spend so much time on eBay and still miss the bargains.
