I bought this a few weeks ago, but pretty much as soon as it arrived something else came along I couldn't turn down and I really can't justify keeping both. As I bought it, it's a Fender MIM standard Jazz bass, built 2002/3, in sunburst with pickup and bridge covers. The pickguard is black (3 ply BWB) and the control plate is also black. I think this looks good, a bit more individual, but the original white pg and silver control plate are included. To that I have added copper shielding in the control cavity, under the control plate and under the pg around the pickups, so it is now very quiet, especially with the bridge cover on. It has a few knocks around the body edges and some marks you can feel at the back of the neck, but nothing that will bother you when playing. Very well put together, fit and finish is as good as my MIJ P. Truss rod works, electrics are fine, really nice slim neck. The fretboard on the last MIM I had felt and looked quite artificial, but this doesn't - not sure if it is actual rosewood, but it might as well be. I'll also include a Gator hardshell case in very good condition, apart from a couple of small scuffs on the lid. Yours for £295 including courier in the UK.

Stupid thing is, I put up a parts bass with a Fender logo on the headstock, no mention of Fender anywhere in the listing or the title and a complete inventory of what all the parts were and where they came from and that got pulled within 24 hours for VERO infringment.

What was your first post on Basschat?

Now look what you've done. I've wasted about half an hour reading through 3 pages of my oldest posts. Good read though. I should write a book. -
They come up more often in the US than here and Rippers and Grabbers seem to be more common, at least recently, than the G3. Having said that there's a 1977 Natural Maple G3 with the original case just gone in the US for $1500 (Item number: 220695663997 if you're registered), but a dealer in Italy has been trying to sell a 1978 black one for 1250 Euro without any luck. Yours is a 76 according to Guitar Dater, looks like it's in good shape. If it is all original and that's the orginal Gibson case, it's worth all of £700, probably more to the right person. Problem with Basschat is there aren't a lot of Gibson fans here. There's several Rippers gone at around the £600 mark, which I think is undervalued. I'd PM Jules (EvilLordJuju) - vintageguitars is his site, he may know someone who's looking for one. Also try http://bassoutpost.com/index.php, most of the Gibson nuts in Europe and the US hang out there.

You'd probably get more for it on eBay if you're prepared to ship abroad, but on here you might get that, or maybe have to come down a bit.

The plan was, I bought an SX bass as a temporary backup while I sold my 51 RI P and found something else. The SX had a bright orange maple neck which I didn't get on with at all, so I tried to strip and refinish it. That didn't work out at all well, and meanwhile I found this Vintage brand maple/rosewood neck on eBay. So, it's a bit of a mixture. The body with the original black finish is from the SX bass, with a new 3-ply tort pickguard. The pickups, knobs, bridge and jack socket are all from the original SX bass. The original 500K pots have been replaced with new 250k versions and an orange drop cap, and the control cavity has been shielded with copper tape. Vintage brand neck is maple with rosewood fretboard and skunk stripe. Headstock and back of neck has been sanded and refinished. Tuners and string tree are SX. Strings are roundwound and look like they're probably Fender. Cosmetically the body has a number of bumps and scratches, some of which have been retouched. The wonderful thing about black is you can't really see any of this unless you look closely. There is a visible thin scratch on the back and some other visible marks. There's also some dents in the face of the headstock. The pickguard is cut a little wide around the neck. Respraying the front of the headstock didn't come out as smooth as I would have liked, but it looks ok. Back of the neck is smooth, which I guess is where it matters. To play, it is loud and bassy, the action is good, the trussrod works and the frets are fine. Electrics work well - having rewired and replaced the pots and cap has really opened up the tone and gives a good range of options from dark thump to brighter clank. The electrics are very quiet, helped by the shielding. It's actually turned out to be a nice bass, but I just don't need it any more. How about £120 shipped in the UK, including a Fender-branded gig bag and the original white pickguard.

Ibanez Thunderbird on German Ebay
spinynorman replied to spinynorman's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Just had a long and pointless "chat" with the work experience dude on eBay helpdesk. Me: Why doesn't this come up on UK ebay? Him: Because it is listed with postage for Germany only. Me: But it says shipping to European Union Him: But if there's no postage listed to UK it won't show. Me: When I list items as available to US, Canada, Europe but only list postage for UK I get people from those other countries asking for shipping cost. How does that happen? Chat closed. Looking at eBay help, I think it doesn't show anything that's not listed in English. And it says you can allow other languages in advanced search, but I can't see how. Anyone know? -
Seems like even the camera didn't want to take the pictures.

Doesn't come up in the UK, despite shipping to European Union. http://cgi.ebay.de/IBANEZ-THUNDERBIRD-1976...=item3a606a96dd

why does no one buy anything on this site

According to net tradition, isn't it time someone mentioned Hitler? -
I bought an MIM Jazz on here a few weeks ago and I've been very pleasantly surprised how nice it is and for how little money. At the nut end it's narrower but thicker than my MIJ P, which I find very comfortable. Tight neck pocket, very nicely done sunburst and the previous owner swapped the metal control plate for a black plastic one, which with a black pickguard looks really smart. If I was going to quibble about anything it would be the pickups, but even they aren't that bad.

Has anyone actually sold anything on Gumtree?
