Not all musical dreams end in happiness and glory

I thought ladies only played paino forte. -
Very good looking bass. Good luck with the auction.

If dogs didn't have nuts, they would lick Gibson basses.
I wonder why this is seen by some sellers/buyers as a plus point. Maybe cos I actually like 2nd hand gear (all 3 of my MIA Precisions were 2nd hand) but I don`t care if a bass I buy has done a 1000 gigs, as long as it plays well, has no crackles on the electrics, and stays in tune. Maybe I`m just not picky enough!
In a way, never gigged is a turn off, as it's quite likely to have never been set up or cleaned either, or it's been stuck in a loft for 10 years and the control cavity's full of spiders. No offence to any bedroom-based onanists on Basschat, of course.

This will be the inspiration for my next childrens' novel - "Billy Nomates forms a rock band". -
A great way to draw attention to your guiter is to list it in the base section http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Guiter-Vintage-/220700497835
I couldnt get £550 on the same bass,in virtually as new condition....must see wot happens on the bay
I bought my 51 RI P for £400 on eBay a couple of years back, sold it on here for £400 a few weeks ago. They were mostly selling in the £350-£400 range till Fender took them off the market, then the £500+ BIN's started and I haven't seen one sell since.

How the hell do you learn Jumpin' Jack Flash?
I believe that'll be Tommy Shannon on bass.
Would be great if it was, powered Johnny Winter and SRV. However, isn't this Jon Paris? Ditto this, with a nice trick at 6:40 ish, if you can pull it off -
He's on at The Robin next March, can't find out much about the band though. Any one know more, is it likely to be worth driving 70 miles there and the same back?
The damn thing's out of tune FFS. I thought it was punk that was played primarily out of tune. I knew there was a reason I hated the Stones /rant
Paint It Black is the same problem. For JJF, find an MP3 of a live version by Johnny Winter. There'll be some proper bass on those. -
I've now gone over to the Dark Side, but lurking in my past ... An Arctic White Epi Tbird, lovely bass, just wasn't me And a Vester OPR 1135EQ, active 5-string with an impossibly narrow neck. Very nice bass in every other way, though, especially for £80.

Some buyers on eBay are deaf, but if you write your listing ALL IN CAPITALS, PREFERABLY ALSO IN BOLD AND IF YOU ARE REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT ACCESSIBILITY, IN A REALLY LARGE FONT AND GARISH COLOURS, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO HEAR YOU. Also remember that buyers do like to use their imagination, so take those photos from a distance, in a darkened room, with that old Nokia mobile you keep meaning to put in the bin at the tip.

I've just sold all my unblack basses, leaving me with ... 78 Gibson Ripper 89 Fender MIJ Precision SX/Vintage FrankenP And one that got away, but I should have kept for the Back in Black collection, an Epiphone Elitist EB3
I guess it's fine if you want to jam along. See what I did there? Butter? Jam? .............. ........ Oh feck off then.
I think that's funny ... Another thing that makes me smile is some of the reviews of low end basses on Harmony Central, how they "A-B'd" their crap bass against all the high end stuff in the shop and "bought this one cos it was better". Not because they couldn't afford the others, obviously.

You're not saying they're supposed to be bent like that, though, surely ..... ? -
I have a large Warwick Premium Rockbag/RokTex gigbag for acoustic bass guitar, which I bought as it was the only thing I could find at the time that would accomodate a Dearmond Starfire. It's actually designed to take a full bodied acoustic, but will hold a wide hollowbody very securely. It weighs 2KG, which gives you some idea of the padding. Lovely velvet interior, all warm and dark and cuddly .... Cost me nearly £60 and it has been out of the house 3 times at the most, so really in brand new condition. I'm asking £40 shipped in the UK, which is quite a discount. Specs Guitar Bags - Premium Line Plus 30 mm cushioned Acoustic Bass Guitar bag with black velvet inside. Solid, water-resistant RokTex® surface material with artificial leather applications Features * Colour: Black * Inside lining: Black velvet * 30 mm / 1.18 Inch cushioning, double bags: 30 mm / 1.18 Inch cushioning layer in-between * Equipped with the Guitar-Saving-System™ with Neck-Saving-System™ for ultimate protection * Extra protecting cushion for lower strap button, RokTex® protection for mechanics and bridge * 10 mm / 0.39 Inch wide 2-way zip with metal W-zip-hanger * 2 removable 50 mm / 1.97 inch wide backpack straps with Shoulder-Saving-System™ (padded shoulder protection with robust non-slip surface) * Metal karabiners and eyelets * 1 backpack strap with mobile phone pocket * 1 cushioned carrier handle at the side and one at the front * 1 big outside pocket with zipper suitable for Worwei® stand with integrated extra pocket * 1 pocket with zip at the front side of the neck with integrated extra zip pocket * 2 vertical pockets at the rear side with a 6 mm / 0.24 Inch wide zip for storing the backpack straps * Window pocket for business cards * PVC-piping * PVC-strengthened bottom with metal feet * Metal hook for hanging the bag up (sewn and riveted with nylon material) * Embossed RockBag® logo * Product code: RB 20610 B/PLUS Dimensions Length - 124.0 cm Width - 47.0 cm Depth - 16.0 cm

Extraordinary. I found a luthier site refering to old Gibson pickups, says "In Late 1963 they started using Polyurethane coated magnet wire to wind the bobbins instead of the dark colored plain enamel of the PAF. The bobbins are made form butyrate and prone to warping." So maybe that's it with these too. Presumably they had pickup covers originally, but he's given that up and just driven 2 posidrives straight through between the poles. No idea how he can claim that's in excellent condition. I suppose it's possible they work ok, but it must affect the balance between the strings surely? Incredible tone - incredible if there is any. Nice use of CAPS anyway. -
If you're selling a bass as "rare", always look to see what all the other sellers have started theirs at over the last couple of weeks (and not sold) and price yours at least 15% higher. (I submit as best practice this rare 51 RI P , which has been up previously at £749, and joins 3 others in the last 2 weeks, all priced over £500 and none sold.) Another tip, if you "know nothing about guitars" it excuses you for being a lying scumbag.

I had the knob problem (that sounds painful) with an EB3 clone. If the T-shirt method doesn't work, I used padding like a much folded T-shirt or duster, slid a pair of round ended scissors under the knobs, so the blade ends are on the pad, and leavered them off. But, if you're giving the rest of the job to a luthier, why not let them deal with the knobs? Regarding the pickups, you'll probably get more answers in the Gibson forum on The Last Outpost. That's where the world's Gibson/Epi nuts hang out. DarkStars are unlikely to be an option. The web site is still there, but Fred Hammon is reportedly not answering emails. They don't often come up for sale used. You could always go the Mike Watt route
not eveyone will agree with this but start your price at the minimum you're prepared to except, saves tears later, reserve prices just put people off because they don't know what the reserve is.
Actually I don't think this is usually the way to get the best price. Buyers can be just as put off by a £100+ starting price as by a reserve. I usually start with the lowest price my nerves can stand, which tends to be £9.99. The exception is if you're not confident more than a couple of people will want what you're selling, in which case I'd put it on a long term BIN with best offers.

You should be able to get them here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Guitar-Headstock-Dec...e-/170572286192 or just email and ask what he has for Gibsons. He'll send you a jpg with a selection of styles. They are nice decals, at least the Fender ones are, only thing is they only work with poly lacquer. Also they're a bitch to apply, I think it takes a bit longer for the glue to soften on the backing than it says in the instructions. I bought 2 and he sent me 3, which was just as well, as I ruined the first one. Other thing to consider is it makes it tricky to sell the bass on eBay. I put my parts Precision up with no mention of Fender in the listing or title, and a complete description of all the bits it was made of, but there was a picture of the headstock and it got pulled within 24 hours.
