Swapped some Geddy Lee tuners for a PJ pickup set. Top item and a no hassle deal. Cheers! I'll be back for a P pickup shortly.
I don't know what I'd get them to learn but I know what I'd get them to listen to - Donny Hathaway Live featuring Willie Weeks on bass. The bass is nice and upfront in the mix, the tone is huge and fat and the playing goes from absolute minimalism to all-out 16th notes and crazy fills and is always deep in the pocket. Everything a bass player should be! Alex
+1 The solo on Voices Inside (Everything Is Everything) is fantastic.

Maybe the old fashioned way is still better but I personally would be willing to give it a go on one of my basses to see the results. The geek in me finds the technoolgy involved quite interesting (Sad I know. ) I see on the Plek website that Gibson are now using the process and I'm sure we'll start to see more manufacturers using it. Especially as the price of the machines will come down as the technology matures.

If it's good enough for Lakland...

Oh boy. I soooo want this. Why must I be skint? I've returned to that clip time and time again when I want to hear what a Jazz should sound like in 'burp' mode.
nice bass playing, but the music was total cheese. i love big band stuff, Jaco's big band arrangements, Joe Zawinul's Brown Street, Music Inc.(Charles Tolliver), Mingus Big band. you get the picture but I think that as a piece of music was pretty soul-less. perhaps the big band equivalent of Kenny G? maybe i'm being to harsh, but regardless of the bass playing, the music doesn't cut it (for me) ;0)
I agree. There's no doubting that the musicianship is outstanding but the music left me cold.

If you buy a J Retro not only will you get a fantastic sounding pre but you will also get the absolute best in customer service should you need it. John sent me the parts to fit my J Retro into my Lakland DJ4 for free - The man is a star and deserves your business.

Looks good although I'm not too sure about it being a desktop unit. I've been toying with the idea of buying a second hand one for a while now. I'm guessing this new one is mucho pennies though?

I have a DJ 4 fitted with aeros which I recently put a J retro into. Passive it was a very good sounding bass but the J retro has transformed it. What I find really useful is how the sweepable mid makes it easy to eq for different rooms. I was saving up for a NYC Sadowsky but I've put that on hold since fitting the J retro - I don't honestly think I can justify the outlay when my DJ sounds so good now.

Think I'll buy one next payday.
In all seriousness: 1. Sharay Reed - I haven't wanted to play like anyone so much since the mid 80s. His funk is pure, dripping, nasty, fermented seepage and it leaves a persistent stain behind. It's what bass is all about for me and if I could have one ounce of this guy''s talent I would die a happy and contented bass player.
That is soooo damn funky. I just had to grab a bass and start playing along. Thanks for the linkage. Do you have any more stuff by him?
IIRC i think a basschatter actually wrote that more detailed review. I remember someone buying a sh*tty ERB off ebay just for the neck for a custom project. I'd never go near a 10 string for under say £600 anyway. I mean, that's not even a high end 4 string really!
I'd never go near a 10 string.
Hi All, Have started using a 102P combo which basically houses the same head as an LMII. I understand the DI only takes a pre eq signal but does anyone know how to make this Post eq ? I don't have a problem in removing the head and having a look inside so if its possible to do DIY then would love to know. Thanks.
I was under the impression that the DI was post eq from the factory. Can someone tell me what this is?
RayFW replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I've had dealings with this guy on ebay before when I tried to buy a Precision off him. Let's just say that he's not the brightest chap in the world. -
