On someones elses point, they do mostly work with active basses, but you need to put the plug in up to the sleeve and wait a second while the pre-amp powers up/stablizes, and then plug it in the rest of the way.
Ah, right. I'll give that a try. How about taking them out? I can't seem to do it without it making an awful ptpthh noise through my amp with my active basses.

Heads Up - dirt cheap La Bella Deep Talkers in UK
RayFW replied to Beedster's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Put these on my 08 P today. Going from an existing 45,60,80,95 set required tweakage of the truss rod and bridge saddle height and I had to re-intonate but I'm loving the sound so far. Much better than the Fender stainless flats I had on there and I believe they're meant to sound better as they age. Lovely warm, oldschool tone. I couldn't be happier. Cheers again for the heads up Beedster. -
The domain is registered in Denmark to tcelectronic, so perhaps its a bass version of whatever they released for guitar last year. Like the nova system or something?
What's this hiding behind MarloweDK? He did say something about using some tcelectronics stuff that he had to keep quiet about. Maybe this is it? What kind of Shankar designed that?
if it is a hoax or misrepresentation of the true facts, what have I lost by signing it? Absolutely nothing.
True, but it does lessen the impact of petitions when people blindly sign anything without doing any kind of research.

Sold Dave a Behringer Octaver. Instant payment and a no hassle deal. Cheers Dave! Ray

Buy them and if they're completely dead slap 'em on ebay as 'perfect for getting the Jamerson sound'. Sorted.

Re. muting jacks. I've found the Neutrik straight jacks work well enough (but not with some active basses as mentioned above) but that the right angled ones are useless. They seem to stop muting after a while and the plugs start to wobble about. I made 3 leads with them on and they are all the same after less than 6 months use. Not what I would expect from Neutrik as I've got some cables with Neutriks on that work perfectly after approx. 20 years use.

I'm a big MM fan but I don't like those 2 'new' designs at all. I must admit to really liking that stealth 'ray though. They all come across as pretty lazy designs. If they're going to be lazy why not bring back the Sabre or Cutlass?

Not a bass but when will we see it on one?
RayFW replied to phsycoandy's topic in General Discussion
They can make a self tuning guitar but they can't make a Les Paul whose headstock doesn't break if you so much as sneeze on it. -
Hi, overhere http://www.soundsderhelden.de/soundsderhelden.html#vb-99 you can find (for both the V-bass AND the VB-99) files with some awesome sounds ... especialy for the V-bass you can find some great sounds including about 5 sounds created by (or for) Alain Caron. You can find files for PC and for mac ... easy to install using sysex streaming. Have fun! Cheers, Harry.
Nice one! I'll try these after work today. Many thanks.
I have this problem too. I'm going to try stuffing some closed cell foam in the cavity that the spike goes in to by taking the panel off the back and see if that helps.
Back to the drawing board. The end pin doesn't go into the cavity very far when extended so filling with foam will make no difference.
Another one that is going onto my 'won't play' list. It's shocking and I cringe everytime anyone even mentions it never mind actually plays it...
It really is pants isn't it?

We are shaking the set up a bit so I've had a few new songs to learn this week: Michael Jackson : Get on the Floor (Got to love Louis Johnson) Michael Jackson: Thriller/Billie Jean medley (Going to try some V Bass synth sounds on these) Amy Wino: Rehab (Going to play this on my Stagg EDB) Aretha Franklin: Natural Woman (Stagg again) Christina Aguilera: Candyman (Another Stagg number. Crap song though which I'm going to try and persuade the band to drop) Stevie Wonder: I Wish (played it as part of a medley before but we are going to do the full version. Nate Watts' crazy slides are great fun to learn) Brand New Heavies: Midnight at the Oasis (Even with a transcription this is kicking my arse) Martha and the Vandellas: Nowhere to Run and just for fun(!) like some others here I've been trying Rhythm Stick. Got the notes and rhythm sorted but can't play it at full tempo yet. I will nail it even if it kills me though!
Hi, I did un unexpected gig at the weekend with my SA450, which I hadn't had a chance to set up properly other than using it at home. It was a suprise birthday party for me, got to my local village hall and there was all my gear on stage..... Anyway, to the point of my post. As expected, my 'frontroom' sound got a bit lost in the mix. As there wasn't any time to do much tweaking, I ran the amp flat other than the VPF filter at 10 o'clock. So I am wondering what settings all you LM2/SA450 owners are running, and what sound you are achieving? I know this is fairly academic due to different cabs and basses.... I am just curious, as the two filters seem very powerful.
With a Jazz bass or Stingray, I run my CMD 121H combo (with MB 12" extension cab) flat or with a touch of high mid 80% of the time. The other 20% I run it with the VLE at 10/11 o'clock for a more oldschool sound (e.g Motown numbers). With a P (with flatwounds) I often need to boost the high mids to 2 o'clock. I find that VPF around 9/10 o'clock sounds great solo but as it is cutting mids it works against you in a band setting. It also sounds great with my Stagg EDB if I run it flat with VLE at around 12 o'clock.
I have a small problem with my newly acquired Stagg. I’m getting a rather worrying clunking/rattling noise when I’m playing “enthusiastically”, or digging in, as I believe it’s called. It sounds like the top of the spike inside the body of the bass is rattling around as it moves while I’m playing it. Being quite tall, I have the spike almost fully extended. It’s not so bad when I lower the spike and play sitting down. Anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do to cure it?
I have this problem too. I'm going to try stuffing some closed cell foam in the cavity that the spike goes in to by taking the panel off the back and see if that helps.

Upright bass tutor wanted. Manchester/Lancs/Cheshire/W Yorks
RayFW replied to RayFW's topic in Tutors Available
Hi Ray, I used to live and work (as a bass player) in North Manchester and know most of the bass players in the region. I'll have a look through my diary and pm you with some names and numbers. Jake
Cheers Jake. Much appreciated. -
Hi, I recently acquired a Stagg EUB and I'm looking for a tutor who can show me the basics. I'm not looking for lots of lessons at this point (maybe later in the year) but would rather just be given some pointers on my left hand technique to ensure what I'm doing is not going to cause me any injury. I'm based in Oldham, North Manchester but can travel to Lancs, Cheshire and W Yorks. Cheers, Ray
