1. If you've got to think about it, it's not the right thing to do.
2. I bought one after seeing this thread and used it to record the gig last night. Surprisingly good for the price, not good enough for publicity but certainly good enough for checking out the moves and playing. Recommended.
3. Brilliant idea. I'm up for it.
4.
Remember (and this is just between me and you,,,,right!), whoever you are and however good you think you may be, you're only as good as your drummer.
Might as well give up now then.
5. I didn't know that. Apologises.
6. Cleartone Musical Instruments. Some interesting stuff here about CMI, http://www.guitarsite.com/hotlicks/about1657.html and there's pictures of a CMI Jazz Bass half way down.
7. I'm not sure where you get the 12v from, it's 9v.
8. I've got some of those BK modules sitting around doing nothing, they were used with our PA for awhile. Really nice amps. PM me if you're interested.
9. I have no problem with using a pre-recorded intro to blockbuster, you could even have a bit of fun with it by wondering where it's coming from. I'd laugh anyway. You'd be playing the actual song live. I have no problem with a keyboard player playing the horn parts, string parts or even voices, or a drummer with an electronic drum kit playing samples as they'd be playing it live. It's the use of backing tracks to replace musicians or because you can't play it live and miming that I think are totally inexcusable and cheating. While discussing this thread with the rest of the band last night, our drummer went as far as to proclaim that he felt that any band using backing tracks instead of musicians and or miming should be forced to display this on any advertising and posters. Just think, that guy playing and singing to karaoke backing tracks has taken your job and your wages.
10. Afraid not. I just used a generic one and it worked well.
11. Sorry, but I think that anyone using backing tracks is taking the piss, cheating and ripping off the audience, if you're not good enough to play it live then don't play it. Supported The Rockin' Berries not so long ago, not only did they turn up late, but insisted on using their own P.A. just so the could use backing tracks. they ended up playing only a 30 minute set of 60s covers, not even their own hits, all with backing tracks and still walking away getting their full pay. At the same venue the following year, we supported the Abba tribute band Abba Arrival. Totally mimed the whole way through, full band as well. Pointless, unless they were incapable of actually playing it live. Both bands won't be playing at that venue again If you have to use backing tracks to make yourselves sound good, then give up and let those who can play live do the gigs.
12. Always expect the worst, it can only get better and if it doesn't you won't be disappointed.
13. I have actually tried that with a pair of Duncans and it didn't actually sound that good.
14. You can always check it and see.
15. Boss RC-3 loop station and matching footswitch. To switch the looper off you have to press the pedal twice, add the footswitch and you only have to press it once. I bought this new for a project which unfortunately never got off the ground. The drummer couldn't keep time with the loops, infact he can't keep time with himself. So there is no point in it looking pretty in my studio, it might as well have a new home where it is appreciated. Near enough new and never been outside the studio, however, I've looked and looked but I can't find the box, I found the instructions though. They will be superbly packaged and posted to you for £90. Just re-read this and they will all be posted to you, not just the instructions. Here's a link to the Boss web site. 16. Actually, been there and done that, the door frame fell to pieces. It didn't really, but neither did the cab nor did it chip the paint. Even our drummer touched it and it's still in one piece.
17. We've been in that sort of situation before and have chosen to set up on the ground next to the stage. Get there early, setup and sound check and as soon as the other band has finished away you go. More professional that way too. You could also build your own canopy in case of the possible rain. Good luck!
18. !5 minute changeover, good luck.
19. Danelectro use an on-off-on pickup selector switch on their guitars and basses. Plenty of info here, http://dennysguitars.homestead.com/DanoGuitarSchematics1.html
20. Our drummer, in a previous band, used to play one of the clubs in Germany. If the band played too loud, the manager used to turn the voltage down. The instrument amps being valve just got a bit more distorted but the Hammond went completely out of tune.
21. It's never too late to learn. Thanks.
22. Well found. I spent ages trying to find them and failed miserably.
