I just posted the following in another thread but it seems appropriate to post it again here, so here it is. The truly amazing thing to me is that with the Streamliner and 69er, I get the same sound at whatever volume I play at, from silly quiet to, well, heaven. I've never had that before with any other gear. It's always had to be in the sweet spot, ie, loud, to get 'that' sound. The other thing I've noticed, or should I say enjoyed, is that I can hear every note on the fretboard, never had that before either. Streamliner and 69er, to me, the perfect combination. I would assume that the 69er is not unique in this respect and that the same could be said for all Barefaced cabs.

We're a 3 piece as well. An example of how I use mine is when we do the Spencer Davis Group, Gimme Some Lovin'. The guitarist uses a pog so we've got the organ sound covered. I play the main riff with bass and an octave up and for the chorus I press the 5th footswitch and I'm playing chords above the bass line and then back to just bass and the octave up again. It sounds so full and powerful. A drummer friend of ours who heard us play it, said it sent shivers down his spine it sounded so good. As a pedal it's not perfect and as others have said it can sound synthy and possibly a bit harsh but in with the rest of the band and through a separate amp it's brilliant. It's like being Thin Lizzy all on your own or hit the 4th button and you're a one man Deep Purple and Rainbow tribute.

I've got one and love it. Seriously great effect. It's to me what an 8 string bass should sound like. Mind you, the built in distortion is not that brilliant but it does have a separate effects output and I take this to a separate amp and use the amps distortion. Brilliant. If you have any questions just fire away and I'll do my best to answer. Did I mention that I love it?

Don't know a lot about Kam, but we've been using a pair of these, http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_tamp_d4500.htm and I'm more than happy with them.

Should the bass player be on the left...looking at the band?
bertbass replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
Looking at the band, I'm always on the left but that's because I'm left handed. -
I've just read the thread about the new Ashdown Rootmaster 420 and Mr Ashdown said, "You often find people are more keen to point out when they have problems than reporting that all is well and something is doing its job as intended", which is very true. So I'd like to say that all is well with my Streamliner 900 and it's doing its job as intended.

Anyone see the Super Bowl halftime show last night?
bertbass replied to sam-davies's topic in General Discussion
I though that the Pepsi ad at the beginning was brilliant! -
Normally get this in my thumb at the start of a gig when using a pick when I'm tense / nervous. The big 'gig' when you've got to impress.

If my memory serves me well, Carvin 10s were much the same as Eminence Beta 10s until they moved production to China where they became an unknown quantity.

Best head/cab combo you have played and why
bertbass replied to StuOfEmbers's topic in Amps and Cabs
The best head / cab combination that I've ever played was a pair of Marshall Super Bass hundreds through 4, 4x12 Sound City cabinets. The sound was clean with just a bit of valve 'edge', not overly loud but consistent wherever I went on or off stage. High highs and low lows and incredibly responsive. It looked amazing as well. -
A Wem ER40 and Starfinder cabinet for me along with a left handed Wem Sapphire bass in sunburst. All from a Bell's catalogue and easy payments.

Why thank you kind sir!

£300 for a small wooden box? Having a laugh aren't they?

I couldn't EQ the mid out with the passive EQ on the Traynor or the Mywatt. It was better with a graphic EQ pedal but I couldn't EQ the bass in to my liking. Also it sort of lost the reason for having Jacks in the first place. This is of course very subjective as I know others are more than happy with the sound of the jacks. I should also add that the rest of the band commented that they could hear what I was playing clearer with the Jacks.

I built a pair with 3015HOs and used then stacked with a Carvin B1500, a Traynor 300w valve head and a Mywatt 200. They do exactly as BFM claims. The sound that you hear is the sound that the audience hears and they hear it everywhere in the venue. Each note is loud and clear and the cabs are also very efficient. But, there's always a but, I didn't like the sound that much. There's not a lot of deep bass. Plenty of mids ands highs but not a lot of depth. Don't get me wrong, the bass isn't missing, it's all there but it's not the sort of bass that comes out of the cabinet rolls across the stage, falls onto the floor and then up the trouser leg of anyone that's listening, if you know what I mean. Our very own discreet came and tried them out and preferred the sound of the Jack 12s, perhaps he'll pop in later and can give you his opinion as well. If you like a well balanced sound then they're brilliant, but if you like a bit of rumble then they're not for you. I've still got mine actually, all sad and lonely and looking for a new home. Not quite sure what to do with them. I might just take the speakers out and sell them separately.

Still sounds like a guitar to me.
