1.
Just dug this one out from a while back... You still going to the Feb jam, miles'tone'? I should be able to make it although not sure what value I'll add to the occasion
Unfortunately not Ash. I'm up in North Wales for half term so I'll miss this Weds jam. Get out there, have a go!
2. Same as GHS Pressure wounds, as GHS make them for Ken Smith type bump..
3. Have you tried experimenting with the height of the pickups? Might be able to dial in what you're looking for.
4. My late-80s Stingray. Translucent red, rosewood board, 2eq, Bridge with mutes, an added Duncan hot jazz pickup in the middle position, worn finish on the top arm contour, tinted flame maple neck, EB "Stingraybass" logo. Sold in 2002 in Stepney Green to a couple of guys starting a studio. Any basschatters now own this bass? 🙏
5. But really, thanks to the OP for this thread. I've been rediscovering them on Spotify last night, will tonight too. I also appreciate David Byrne's unique talent a hell of a lot more now than I did when I was younger. 🍻
6. That Tina Weymouth.. Bloody GREAT she is!!
7.
Great: influencing culture by your ability or creativity.
That they did.
8. Those kids will never forget that night. Good work sir.
9. Brilliant stuff! Cheers for the heads up there. Just subscribed to his channel. 👍🍻
10. Look no further than DR Lowriders stainless steel. Really.
11. Best. Finish. Ever.
12. They are made of brass but finished in chrome. Same as pre CBS Fender. But brand new.
13. Go Fender Nate Mendel. Don't look back.
14. 1 pair of brand new unused heavy knurled Genuine Fender flat top P bass knobs with grub screws. £10 posted.
15.
Paul Denman is my benchmark when it comes to Stingrays... his tone with Sade when I saw them live was thunderous. I don't really get the Flea tone chasing... but agree, Flea will always, for me, be associated with that MM pickup in the sweetspot... no matter what piece of wood or carbon hybrid it is attached to. I think the appeal for Fender Flea basses with the MM setup would actually limit sales to the die hard Flea fans... whereas the stacked knob jazz that is currently up for grabs is appealing to a far wider ranger of players - both Flea and non Flea fans. Interesting to see what Fender do... but I suspect they would build you a Flea bass as above... if you go via the custom shop... otherwise, just get a body, have it routed accordingly and painted and stick a Fender neck on it. Job done.
From Sade to Flea - just goes to show the versatility of a Stingray.
16. New and unused Entwistle PBX P bass pickup (ceramic magnets) £10 posted. Sold.
17. Top quality Nitrocellulose lacquer - one white sanding sealer, two vintage white colour, one light tint clearcoat. Bought for a bass that I haven't got time to refin. They cost me £15+ per tin and they are all completely unused and as new from the suppliers. I can't post them unfortunately due to them being restricted goods to mere mortal post office users such as myself, but if you are around the Cardiff-ish area we can arrange a meet up. Cheers 🍻
