1. Starcastle were clearly Yes wannabes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC5v7Xr0eAc&list=PL94gOvpr5yt0jjG1E7YmuJOCihQvWicJd
2.
Lesson learned - next time, plan the band meeting for somewhere as uncomfortable and hostile as possible.
Syria is a long way to go for a band meeting.
3. I usually have it on series record but after a lot of FF white finger over last couple of series I've decided not to bother this time, probably skim through a few episodes on iplayer at some point. Thanks to whoever mentioned the Friday Rock Show, wasn't aware of it but will check it out from this week.
4.
Not quite sure if this fits the OP, some more band's 'disco' tunes - ELO - Last train to London / Shine a little love
The whole album is pretty disco. I wonder if it was originally intended to be titled 'Very Disco' and they turned it round to read 'Discovery' ?
5. The whole Leftoverture album is excellent - Miracles out of Nowhere, Cheyenne Anthem etc. Great stuff. Steve Walsh sure had some pipes on him back in the day.
6.
B side to Hell Raiser anyone ? Cracking !
Don't suppose they had been listening to Immigrant Song before they came up with that one?
7. Don't think I ever met him at a bass gathering but condolences to family and friends,RIP.
8. Considering the general demographic of this forum I have to say there's a whole bunch of people I really would not like to see naked and I'm putting myself top of that list.
9. I was delighted to find him in Clapton's band in 2004 as its the only time I've seen either of them play live.
10. Magenta in Rotherham (CRS gig) on Saturday, they will be performing some material from new album which hasn't actually been released yet, it's like the good old days!
11. I'd be immediately wary of a band that charged you room hire for auditioning or that didn't make a decision if you were in the band or not after a couple of jams.
12. Could also try Greyhound in Beeston but it would prob have to be a Weds or Thurs night. Tues is an acoustic jam and Fri/Sat slots will be booked for the year by now.
13. Yup, one band I was in regularly finished second set with SoF and it never failed, everyone dancing and singing along to the chorus every time. In a functions/covers band I'd rather that than metaphorical tumbleweed across the stage any time. It's very dependent on the type of audience you are targeting.
14.
I have no desire to sit in a pub ad talk about my band like were metallica
This in spades. Being in a band where one or more of the incumbants have had some sort of mild 'success' in their past and thus assume you know nothing and your opinion counts for nothing because you don't share their history can be really tedious. Been there, bought the t shirt.
15. And of course The Police later wrote a song about one of the presenters, Sue Lawley
16. This will keep both you and your drummer busy if it's not already in the set http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x61QWSdZUsE
17. Theres obviously a lot more to them than just being another band. It goes a lot deeper, or did when RJG was involved. Now with dementure coming in its inevitable he has had to step down. What this will mean long term for Enid remains to be seen.
18. I went to both the Northampton ones, very enjoyable but it made me realise just how pedestrian a player I was (watching Dood almost made me give up the instrument entirely). It was nice to meet people from outside my local area. If an 'allcomers' one was arranged in Northampton again I'd certainly make the effort if I was available.
19.
Beat me to it...
Now I think of it didn't Cash do a whole album of light hearted stuff, something about nuts?
20. Guess it depends what other interests you have and how long you've been in the band. 10 years is a long stint so it's bound to leave a hole. I've recently left a band and barely had time to pick up a bass since, made me notice how much I was neglecting other things doing so much gigging. I seriously doubt I will be thinking about looking at want ads until around August or September. I realised I hadn't actually had any breaks between any of the last 3 bands so I'm making the most of this one.
21. I'm afraid I'll now be out of the country on May 13th so can't make it after all. Have a good bash guys and catch up with you at the next one maybe.
22.
Chicken in Black by Johnny Cash.
Boy named sue and one piece at a time are also pretty comedic.
23. Ronnie Hilton's general career was pretty 'straight' even though many only know him for the song about mice in a windmill. He did apparently also do a cover of the laughing gnome....
24. I agree with most of above, it's easy to get horribly wrong. Often thrashed to death when it needs a hop skip and bounce to it (you can tell how good my theory is using all these technical terms ). It's had people out of their seats and on to the dance floors for decades. It's no fluke.
25. They have nothing to prove. Just been reading the interview with various members in Classic Rock. They know they are in the twilight of their careers and without making a big hoo-haa about it suspect this may be their last major tour. Even Steve Morse, the 'new guitarist' of 20 years is 61 and suffers from an untreatable and advancing form of arthritis which will ultimately end his career. They all seem pretty chilled and just enjoying the ride for however long it carries on. Only heard 3 tracks from new album so far, sounds like a continuation of the previous one (not entirely surprising as its another Bob Ezrin job) which is no bad thing as that was a distinct upturn from the rather downbeat predecessor.
