Both the Beatles and The Stones essentially started out as cover bands, I'd be amazed if the Who didnt do some covers in thier early years too but I'm less familiar with their history. I get where the OP is coming from, however there are plenty of folks ploughing their own furrow.

So...why haven't you got a Trace Elliot then..

I'm hoping it stays unfashionable so the second hand prices stay low. I use a 715 combo with a non TE ext cab and have been for at least 10 years (originally had a TE 4x10 ext cab with it but only gigged that rig a couple of years, back couldnt take it), before that I had a similar TE combo but it was the model that only worked at 8ohm so I traded it in when I started playing some slightly bigger venues. Both cheap s/H jobs, never had either of them serviced and still running same as ever. If the prices stay low and the current one dies I might just go out and get an identical replacement which would probably see out the rest of my serious bass playing days. -
Rickenbacker Bass Gets Outed For What It Is
KevB replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
That's always going to be an issue with the youtube channel thing, folks start becoming internet 'celebreties' and it becomes more of a performance for the camera, though I'm sure Dave was probably a bit of a crotchety git to begin with. The guy I used for anything I needed over last 8 yrs or so was never full of the joys of spring but he was far more personable than Dave and did a decent job. Interestingly he was far more into the trickier jobs (though I never took him my Ric) because he could take time over them and charge a decent amount, last time I saw him about 3 years ago he had pretty much given up doing the quick £30 set up jobs, held no interest for him. -
Especially if they're not even playing for four hours
If she's stolen them and given them away to deserving, promising young violinists I could forgive her. But destruction is beyond the pale.
I couldn't condone robbery with violins...

He needs to stop spitting into his mic so much?

Crowd pleasers - the perfect set list from a punters point of view
KevB replied to T-Bay's topic in General Discussion
The odd one that seems to have doggedly followed me round from band to band over the last 15 years at least is Rockin In The Free World. I don't think it was ever much of a commercial hit anywhere but I guess the fact it's mostly piss easy is why it gets on a lot of set lists of guys of a certain age. -
How many times have we heard; "I have a job, so I'm not in it for the money" Blue
The number of times that is the person's circumstance and 100% accurate to their situation I imagine.

Yep I've used Paul Wolf's tutorials occasionally. He usually paces them about right though sometimes I've found him labouring over what seems to be a pretty easy part in a song only to then skim quickly over something that to me sounds tricker and ought to be given more 'air time'. Theres always the skip back button so no real harm. As others have said, Constantine's run throughs are nearly always accurate though I've not seen any actual explanations on any of the songs I've picked up from him. The first linked guy in ben4343's post (the one doing the tool cover) is a recent find for me and seemed v accurate for the song I was interested in, better yet there was a link to a site where you can download a guitarpro file of the demonstrated bassline which I find easier to work from than the onscreen tab. Interestingly I found someone else doing a run through of same song and with a proper tutorial explanation but then seemed to be putting bits in that I couldnt hear on the original recording and which were also absent from other people's run through demos!

Yup, all about serving the song. Some stuff needs a busy line an dsome stuff don't. Some stuff needs a mix of both. Woodinblack, you are not alone re ARN, I recently went for an audition where i was specifically asked to play in the verse.

I thought that initially but on reflection Wales and Northern Ireland probably don't get overrun with mainstream festivals so maybe good news for them.

Glasto not on in 2018 so BBC plugging the gap with 4 festivals running over same weekend in 4 locations in late May http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40703541

Yes I thought it was a decent run out for them too, only heard it once though. I'm going to see them later in the year at Rock City, first time i will have seen them since the Lean Into It tour!

There was always going to be an issue with the timing, they klnew about it ages ago. He's a very slow writer so it was inevitable that the TV series (short of taking an enforced break from filming, never going to happen) was going to catch up with the novels before the book series was finished. It actually puts the writer in a bit of a hole as he could decide to do something totally different at the end compared to how the TV series will end which would be slightly unusual. Hopefully he will give the TV writers a few pointers and the general storylines will be the same but the finer details between books and TV may differ which is quite normal. Never read any of the books but I'm told they arent actually that great a read and borrow a lot off some obscure French novels from a long time ago.

Well if Clayton himself has played it both ways (live vs studio) I wouldnt be losing much sleep over it.

They should have had him invent the looper pedal on the show - BURN THE WITCH!
I think it's one of these programs that aren't on any freeview channels, where there's a load of hype so us with only freeview rush out to get sky or netflix, sorry won't work, my freeview recorder is already nearly full of stuff I'll probably never have time to watch. Mind you I might get round to watching more stuff if I spent less time on here
Or alternatively download for nothing using torrent sites that gives you the programme in HD and with no ad breaks at all. Know what you mean though, I've still got unwatched stuff on my TalkTalk box that I recorded back end of last year.

Someone I knew asked me to dep at a posh restaurant gig and sent me 45 songs to knock off in just over a week. There were a lot I'd never played before. What made it worse was that on the night (2 x 60 min set) we played a total of 7 from the list and the rest were others he just chucked at me on the fly to improvise around. I was a bit of a wreck by the end of the night but we got paid and no one died. We're still mates but I've never depped for him since.

Can see why there is a market for fakers, I was in PMT at the weekend and stood gaping at the price of a real jetglow 4003 (admittedly a LH model) - just short of £2900 I'm not sure I dare take mine out gigging now without reviewing my insurance....

Columbus J was bass I taught myself to play on, coincidentally it was £30 too but that was back in the mid 80's. Previous owner had added a pair of white dimarzio P pickups to it which was just as well as the bridge J picup had died.
Playing devils advocate, if all the small time tax dodgers were added up it would probably be far bigger tax loss than what the likes of Starbucks and Amazon cost the exchequer, you're talking billions of pounds, that's why the Government hates cash, but it'll be a long time before people start paying the window cleaner in anything other than cash. Slightly different point, some pubs want to pay in cash because it costs them to bank money (not as much as paying by card costs them though), they like to get rid of it, hence cashback
Indeed. The report this morning suggested that this 'gig economy' is worth in the region of £6 billion a year. I'm not sure if that was 6 billion total turnover or a potential £6 billion in lost taxes. Makes you think either way.

OK title edited for the faint hearted and finbar saunders among us.

From the latest rumblings from the govt it seems they are genuinely looking to end these sorts of practices. If landlords are obliged to go through with it then could have an impact on how many on here go about their hobby perhaps?
-
As so often the case, through my little ear phones/PC/youtube source combination the different pickups on the P in the original post sound exactly the same even though they clearly wouldnt have done in the room as it was being filmed. That 69 jazz is slowly turning into a trigger's broom as well. He's a happy soul though so we should not knock him. Can play too even though rather slap happy.

Had it a while but only played it through once, needs a few more listens I think.
