The Thin White Duke's put on some weight hasn't he?
If it's a chubby Bowie you're after, look no further than the trib band based near my neck of the woods... http://www.rebelrebelband.co.uk/Photos.htm

Is there still a scene there?

If you put the cab so its snug up against a wall with ports facing the wall the cat can't move the cab to get inside can it?

Spotted that Panic Room are playing in Leicester tomorrow so I may nip down for that. Have to find a route avoiding Donington though...Foss Way I guess.

Any BCers off to Download this weekend?

Anyone going remember there will be extra security searches on so expect it to take longer than usual to get on site. -

I wondered why the weather was turning colder and wetter this week. Never seen Aerosmith but they would be pretty much the only band I'd be interested in seeing so I'm not paying for a day ticket just for them even though i can get the bus to the site from where i live. -
Does anyone play Riders on the Storm correctly?

Must say I always thought it a bit weird that Scheff, who did all those ridiculous fills with precision & speed at the end of the live vs of Suspicious Minds, would struggle with Riders. -
I thought they actively sought out Ringo after Pete Best as Ringo was highly regarded on the circuit with Rory Storm? If Ringo was sh*te what were the rest like on the Liverpool scene?
-
Its not their most accesible, granted but Astronomie Domonie and Interstellar Overdrive are good tunes. I'd probably cheat and go for the reissue with Arnold Layne, See Emily Play and Paintbox on it though

Tony Iommi was never really in the band. He was drafted in at short notice and as far as I'm aware actually mimes all the way through Rock n Roll Circus. Never recorded or toured with Tull. Until relatively recently Tull had only 2 guitarists and the first one only appears on the first album. 90+% of their output is Martin Barre on guitar. They have had a good deal of drummers, bass players and keys players though. Back to Glascock, probably my favourite Tull bassist. If you dig out material by his pre-Tull band, Carmen, he wasn't a bad singer either.

IIRC Jerry Scheff has posted on here occasionally, though I think it was more in relation to his book than any specific lines he'd played. -
This is one that comes up at a jam session I sometimes go to so I had to learn it several years ago when i was in the house band. I quite like the bassline, prefer it to the 'throwing a bass down the stairs' slapathon approach of some of their stuff. The guitarist also used to sing it pretty well.
Because you can count the number of prog artists that have been on Jools on the fingers of one stump.
Why do you reckon though Jon? As mentioned they are supposedly all for showing the variety of genres around but this currently healthy and fairly thriving genre (OK still a bit of a niche market) is chronically underrespresented. At their peak Porcupine Tree could have probably outsold gigs over a lot of the artists on Joolz whilst still remaining fairly underground and unusual band but never a sniff of interest from the programme to my knowledge, They need to get their finger out a bit, the shows starting to look a bit cliched - token rap artist followed by token ethnic folk act with an established 'legend' to headline etc etc.

Chill guys, 'shell posted in good humour. We'd had a laugh about it after the jam last night.

I didnt see the connection earlier as I was thrown by the word eminent, I'm probably closer to 'elephant' these days.

Yes, alright. It was me. A girl got up to do some singing, had a nice soulful kind of voice and had called out Chain Of Fools. To me it was a natural progression to move on to Mustang. In my defence, it was the ONLY time the whole night that any of the few punters present got up to dance. I've always said that on the rare occasions i play it I always enjoy doing it and last night was no exeption. Rather that than another rendition of Stormy Monday etc. The day I'm ashamed of trying to get a bit of atmos going and entertain folks is probaby the day I hang up the bass for good.

Why he's not had an act like Big Big Train on by now completely mystifies me.

Unbelievably, people are still trying to defend the 80s.
KevB replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
If you concentrate on the pop stuff then inevitably you will come up with a lot of cack. There were loads of great rock and neo-prog bands knocking about in the 80's. Some of them even charted. Eg you won't see Gillan on that link - 5 top 20 albums and 6 top 30 singles just between 1980-83. ACDC, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Guns n Roses. Colossal album sales in 80's and they were just the commercial acts. Lots of musically interesting stuff with narrower appeal too. A whole different 80's to the one represented in the BBC link. -
More pictures of the door hinges please. Are they all original or have they had some work done on them? Will they be there next year? Whats the tone like when you open the cupboard door?

Technically I've been sacked from the last two bands but in both cases it was becoming increasingly clear to them that I was frustrated with lack of progress. It's better for their egos to say to people 'we had to let him go' rather than someone quit on them so they get their move in first. I'm personally not much bothered either way it has the same outcome which I require.
my partner is not keen on me being in a band
Reverse for me in last band. Lack of technical ability and stage presence of vocalist convinced me the band wasn't going to really push on beyond cheap pub gigs but she is the partner of the guitard band leader so is never going to be sacked. I began to lose confidence in any progression, they picked up on it and wanted me out before I could quit.
He also had the rather challenging role of dep'ing for Jeff Berlin with Bill Bruford's band... Caught on the OGWT here: https://www.youtube....h?v=UrExNIyA3lk
Is that Ronald McDonald on keys before he adopted the clown makeup?* If I lived a bit closer I'd probably have gone along to this as its a freebie. I'm not much of one for demos and stuff but Neil comes across as a really nice bloke. *Yes, I know its Dave Stewart really. -
Was it for a Burns Bison?
