1. It was just something that I'd read re Stones might not be true. Could be tape speed issue. The piano in theory would only have to be out on the note everyone took as the ref, eg if they banged out an E note from a single piano key and tuned first string of gtr to that then tune rest of guitar to that string then its all going to be 'out' but in tune with itself.
2. I like a bit of flute or violin in a rock song, different kind of voice, can take the music in a different direction.
3. I had 2 in the same set list for a past covers band. Stones - Jumpin Jack Flash and Cure - Friday I'm in Love. I think the former is out due to a badly tuned studio piano and the latter out due to band mucking about with varispeed.
4. Stone Roses
5. No probs Norris, had been meaning to catch your band for a while but my last band was very busy with not many weekends off. Trying to get to see a few bc'ers now during a quiet period before next major project kicks in. Sorry didnt make it to end but sounded very solid what I heard, all good musos but gtr/vox guy from MT's band must be great to have around.
6. Recently bought a telecaster bass from Mike, deal went very smoothly and goods arrived as described and in good order, pleasure to deal with.
7. Oddly enough I've just been listening to his best of compilation on the last car cd rotation. If the next (blues rock driven) project comes to fruition I might suggest a bit of Robin Trower to the band, Day of the Eagle is a particular favourite of mine.
8. Ray posted in the 'how was your gig last night?' thread. However since I was there I can tell you that the boy played a blinder, though he looked knackered at the end. Unfortunately I couldnt stay too long after the set but I'm sure plenty of appropriate imbibition took place.
9. I've noticed that this Sat I had pencilled in as a poss rehearsal for a new project but if it doesn't come off I might be free for a little road trip. I wouldnt do it if the band played stuff I didn't like but from what I've seen the Cheeze is my sort of playlist so you never know...
10. My rumble 100 just stopped working one day, the light for the drive/level knob was continually flashing but no signal coming out at all, less than a year old. Took it back and it was replaced but never got feedback as to what the fault actually was. I've only used the replacement as a bedroom practice amp at low level, I don't think the 100 is really up to serious gigging.
11. That settles it, I'm deffo going along to Norris's next gig, anyone else in east mids up for it?
12. How times have changed. Back in the day band members would queue up for a mother/daughter threesome in the back of the band van. Or so I'm told...
13. Is it a private party or open pub gig? If it's an allcomers job then I will try my best to drop in Ray.
14. It wouldnt surprise me at all if she was looking to pocket your fee by intimidating you in the hope you'd shrug and write it off, these fly by night management types are usually shifty at best. The Greyhound in Beeston went from a thriving music venue to a shadow of its former self after the regular long term LL and his missis left (health reasons). One of the intermediate short term managers emptied the tills and games machines and did a midnight runner I believe. It's still struggling to get to where it was 6 or 7 yrs ago though now back under permanent management again.
15. This was my rig before the 4x10 had to go, guessing somewhere around 2004 as I hadn't even got my faithful US jazz by then. That P's a japanese copy as well. 16. I had a TE 1x15 combo with a SWR 2x10 cab stacked on the type with folding plate and the folding plate part never broke. Only thing that did for it was going down a fairly big pothole on a rough bit of road down the side of a pub (no lighting on road so i never saw the pothole). It buckled part of the axl where the wheel attached. Probably fixable but I decided to just replace the trolley, it didnt owe me anything after 6 or 7 years of use.
17. See the link I posted in post #11 it might be closest type to what you have in mind maybe?
18.
Always fancied some Trace gear but I like my Hartke stuff I will try some at some point but I think some of the prices for Trace gear are very silly on ebay etc and thing is the gear is pretty old so reliability may be an issue?
I've seen posts where people say they got rid of their TE gear as it was always breaking down but my experience has been exact opposite. 2 1x15 combos and a 4x10 cab that never had issues. My current combo was bought around 2006 second hand (with a 4x10 ext cab) for £400 for the pair and has still never seen a workshop. I'm guessing it was built somewhere around early 1990's (no date written on back plate). The 4x10 was in my shed under a tarp for nearly 8 years before being taken out last year to be passed on to another BCer and it sounded the same as when it went in, I was expecting the cones to have been eaten by mice or something...
19. Isnt macca's model effectively an 'upside down' neck anyway though (even in RH format)? I'd never really noticed until they brought out the C64 model or whatever it was called.
20.
I've recently stumbled across my latest 'perfect' sound (for how long? who knows) bought 2 Fender V2 cabs (because they were cheap), 2 x 8 and 1 x 12, super light weight and paired them with my 250 watt SMX GP12 head, I understand the weight issue having had a T E Combo, but match a TE head with light weight cabs, seems like the best of both worlds to me
I think I'd possibly go down this route too if my combo went tits up, can't see me losing out too much on switching from 1x15 + 2x10 to 1x12 + 2x8 as long as the combination gave good responses over the frequencies needed.
21.
All Trace have to do is put the classic pre-amp (or better yet the mp11 with valve Drive and compression) in a box with a 1000w class D engine. There, I've fixed your brand problems in one go. Plus if they went mp11, all the knobs and e settings would be midi controllable so you'd have ludicrous flexibility.
I think I said something along the same lines in another TE related thread a year or so back, maybe when the (then) latest TE stuff was being touted. Still not sure why they didn't investigate this route, you wouldnt think it would take a huge investment in 'developmement' its not like they'd be reinventing the wheel. Missed opportunity. Or maybe its analogous to Rickenbacker, they bring out a supposedly better model but it doesn't sell as well as its prehistoric bridge design predecessor.
22. You must feel the need to annoy your neighbours at least once in a while though?
23. I suppose in theory the longer any art form goes on then the chances of someone doing something that hasn't been done before becomes less. However its how critical you get of what comprises 'original'. There must be tons of novels written every year that would be classed as 'original' yet there are probably parts of every story that has at least some similarity to one that has been done before by now, I guess the devil is in the detail.
24. We all love a bit of exaggeration re the weight. Sure they are not lightweight compared to the class D stuff but even i can lift my 715 combo out of the car and on to the trolley without too much suffering and my back hasn't been great since i damaged it at work over 20 yrs ago. The ballache is stairs. If the venue has no lift and there isnt anyone to take the other handle it is an awkward lift&carry job. However, the 4x10 ext cab was worse. In fact it weighed little more than the combo its just an awkward square box of a thing to lug about by hand if you are on your own. PaulWarning will back me up on this as I passed it on to him last year Tonewise I'd read so much about how 'nasal 80's mid rangey whine' they were I was more than surprised just what a range you can get from these amps with a bit of judicious tweaking. I will admit though that my rig did sound better after I coupled it up with a tone shaping pre amp/DI pedal (I have a bassattack but no doubt other brands will do just as well) but I don't have the EQ 'flat' so there is still a contribution from the amp end too, along with the inbuilt compression. I can get the low end thumpy muddy sound for blues if i need it though its not a tone i naturally go for. What has always impressed me about those 15inch speakers in the 715 combos is how wide a range of frequencies thay can dish out, they are not boomy at all but can give a good low end kick when required.
