I seem to occasionally have problems when I'm using either active instruments or my wireless system interfering with my phone, it seems to pick up signals that override the keypad lock which is OK when the phone isn't in my pocket but if it is I have come off stage and apparently sent texts to a whole bunch of people I'd no intention of sending them to! Really weird. Not as weird as playing a daytime gig at Nottingham University once and set up my wireless, switched on my backline and got a perfect signal from the University's own student radio station going through it - back to the cable!
Oh yeah. There was cake too. Went down very well. No food fights thankfully.
Hope it made up for Brentford's result earlier in the day

First gig with new band last Sat night. Smallish playing area that was wide enough but too shallow so to allow enough 'dance area' we ended up with monitors too close to PA and had to use very low monitors vols to avoid feedback. It sounded fine at FOH but onstage made it tricky. Also after I'd set up my gear the band leader then set up a few additional floor spotlights and when we started playing and I got halfway through the first song and needed to use my midi pedals I looked down and was completely blinded by the floor spots from other side of stage, had to give up on them for a couple of songs until I could get the spots moved a bit. We also had 2 sets of 6 lights behind us as well as the small floor spots and none of them are LED's - we were sweating buckets after the first song (no air con in pub). However we got through it, people danced and at the end of the night the landlady was enthusiastic, her words were we 'took the roof off the place', want us back again in early December for a second show.

From the neo proggy lot Pallas, good old Graeme Murray is a good player plus great bvox & midi pedals man. Also a qualified and practising lawyer so you don't want to try to rip him off in you are in management!

What is the best way to turn someone down? (in a band setting)
KevB replied to jackers's topic in General Discussion
Agree with the comment about auditioning, invite him to jam but without the singer present. If he's obsessive about the singer he'll probably not show up and if he does go through the motions. If he's not what you need let him know and you can all move on. -
And my first proper gig since about last November, slight brown trouser time but I'll wing it. Also my first ever trio. We'll be wreaking havoc on relatively blameless tunes by the likes of U2, Stereophonics, Beatles, BB King, Judas Priest, Nena (via Goldfinger), Cult, Cure, Kings Of Leon and various others. It'll be a laugh, mostly for you. And it's all happening here; http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/place?hl=en&rlz=1G1DSGJ_ENUK381&gs_upl=3717l10704l0l12501l24l24l0l11l11l0l223l1771l4.7.2l13l0&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=midland+hotel+stapleford+nottingham&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=midland+hotel&hnear=0x4879e90cd6ab4943:0x9255e2b687fbbdd5,Stapleford,+Nottingham&cid=13772367792193304595 Onstage about 9:30, free entry. Buy a drink. You'll need one.

Do these gigs mean you can curry favour with the audience then? I'll get me goat...

Had a quick run through the short version on iPlayer, nothing really to make me record the full vs tonight I'm afraid, will still check it next week though. There's usually a few in acts in each series that are worth a look in. That girl from The Duke Spirit seems to have nicked Alice Gold's stage appearance from her recent tour!

I think if a meteor hit my house there would just be this pile of smouldering rubble with a TE combo sitting in the middle of it..
-
I think the Commando might be a 12". I still use a TE 1x15 combo in my rig. Used to link it up with a TE 4X10 but it got to be a literal pain getting up flights of narrow stairs in some venues, switched to SWR 2x10 instead. Not the same vsual impact but sounds pretty much the same with less hassle moving it.

OK Basschatters how do I get my mits on this?

Email Ken Smith, he's an expert on this kind of thing -
Is she the same woman who was married to Bradley in Eastenders or Coronation Street?? If so then she was quite nice
According to her wiki entry she was in Coronation St but I don't do soaps so can't confirm it. Apparently also had a good run in a womens prison drama called Bad Girls
Who is she?
You mean Debra Stephenson? Been around a long time, must be about 40 by now. I first saw her in 'Playing The Field' but she went on to do more comedy based stuff, mainly doing impressions with Jon Culshaw. Didn't know she was a singer as well, though a lot of actresses of that age who have come up through drama school have trained in singing or dancing as well as acting.

Listened through it a couple of times, not bad but not brilliant either. At least didn't repeat the mistake of churning out a double album with barely a single album's worth of good stuff on it. Of the last 3 I'd still go for By The Way by some margin but I'm not a big Chilis fan to start with.

I retired my TE 4X10 cab on the grounds of 'middle aged back' and it currently lives in the shed, I really must move it on. However with a sack trolley I can still transport the TE 1x15 combo with an SWR 2x10 and a gramma pad in a single visit as long as there are no stairs involved. The pre shape / graphic options used to offer enough variation to get a decent sound but the use of a Hartke Bass Attack pedal has made it sound better still.

Yep, safer to run separate cables out to each speaker if by some freak fail a speaker blows then you will have some output which might not be the case with a daisy chain (depending which speaker in the chain went). My Trace is a combo unit anyway so the added extension speaker is always on a separate out socket.

Even though they have gone up in price a little the Squier P Bass special with the added jazz pickup still offers good value for money. Very playable and with the P/J config a very usable range of tones. If I had one as my permanent first choice bass I might consider a replacement set of pickups (the stock ones are a bit low output but not rubbish by any means) but the rest is pretty solid. I saw one go for £50 on eBay the other week which is ludicrously good value (current new price is around £215). It is only because I picked up a MIA P deluxe that my Squier doesn't get gigged much.

Fed up with Fenders? Maybe this is the solution...
KevB replied to henry norton's topic in Bass Guitars
Shifter looks OK but they'd have to sort out that wonky back pickup to keep me interested -
So this new band I've joined are going to cover 'I saw her standing there' so obviously the first thing I did was check around the web for a free instruction... Ahh, so that's how it's done then! The lad has a clear future in teaching...

And people moan about Fender bridges not being sophisticated enough for accurate set ups....

Suggestions for sound source to use with Roland PK5 midi pedals
KevB replied to WalMan's topic in General Discussion
I found an old Roland JV1080 to use with mine. Found it on eBay and decided on it because it had been upgraded with extra sound cards, one of which was a vintage synths card. This has several variant Moog bass patches on it and the thing I like about these old units is that they are pretty robust (though I have mine in a 2U flight case). They are fairly sophisticatedin that a number of patches can be mixed together to create a 'super patch' which in Roland speak is called a 'performance'. The 1080 allows up to 16 separate parts to be merged into a performance and each of the 16 parts can be edited in terms of pitch, volume, stereo placement etc. The JV series got superceded by another series so they can be picked up quite cheap. Some of the additional sound cards can be a bit difficult to get hold of but they do come up on ebay fairly often. Vintage synth, keyboards of 60's and 70's and Orchestral are excellent and have enough patches between them for most applications. The 1080 can accommodate up to 4 extra cards but has a reasonable selection of patches on the unit itself. One on ebay with the vintage synths card installed: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/roland-jv1080-fu...=item415ca8f3c6 Or try to pick up a cheaper 1080 and then get the card separately, again the vintage synth card available on ebay at present; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Roland-SR-JV80-0...=item2567188137 -
Never tried one but the specs look OK, I noticed Dolphin have one at a slight discount; http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/5644...rd-b-stock.html

I've seen people use them on electric instruments too, there is enough resonance to get a signal. I think if you are tuning in a noisy environment they might get a bit compromised though.
