1. I have the same model in the same finish (used as my avatar) though mine's a bit older, around 2004. Remains my main gigging bass, great intrument. Hope your sale goes through this time and whoever buys it plays it as much as I do mine.
2. I expect I'm shortly to find out. I'm learning new stuff for the covers band I joined a few months back but then Richard (occasionally posts here as Out_to_play_jazz) asked me to fill in for him in the house band at a regular jam while he does panto this year. This will mean learning a vast quantity of stuff in next to no time and what will probably happen is I'll start forgetting the important stuff for the 'real' band.
3. I was hoping to sneak down for this as my band aren't rehearsing this Sun. Then I got drawn into going to see Deep Purple (ironically in B'ham) so I can't make it either Have a good thrash all of you attending. Oh and remember, if there are no photos it didn't happen!
4. Generally speaking if it's a single handed process I do it left handed but pretty much anything that involves using two hands I do right handed. Main exceptions are that I usually operate a mouse right handed and if you define holding a snooker/pool cue as two handed then I do that left handed. The mouse thing is handy as it allows me to find stuff on the computer with one hand and if I need to write anything down I can do that with my left.
5. Disappointing. Was waiting for him to go pick up that blonde from the top left corner for some serious barn action.
6. With my DIY skills (or rather lack of) I think the main advantage of making my own would be the ability to have it exactly the footprint I wanted for a piece of kit rather than the choice of just the 2 sizes that Aurelex do. Having said that having a bit of 'overhang' hasn't been a real problem so far and it makes it easier to tuck away in a corner of the car for loading up.
7.
Although a week later after we did a gig he booked us and left 3 day prior to, he was really upset that we carried on under the same band name and played the set we had been rehearing the past 3 months.
Bizarre - Like you were all going to suddenly come up with a new identity and set list at that short notice. Some of these guys are in a world of their own. Which band are you in now? if it is Nottm based I'll keep an eye out for you.
8. Oddly enough there is a pub covers band from Ilkeston that seem to play Surrender regularly in their set!
9.
Saw them in Manchester on Sunday. Great show, with possible over-progginess in Fly from here with CS doing the if-Steve-can-have-a-guitar-on-a-stand-then-I-want-a-bass-on-a-stand-too Set list from Manchester: Yours Is No Disgrace Tempus Fugit I've Seen All Good People Life on a Film Set And You And I Steve Solo-Solitaire Fly From Here Wondrous Stories Into the Storm Heart of the Sunrise Starship Trooper Encore - Roundabout Bliss....
In Sheffield we got Machine Messiah at the expense of Heart of the Sunrise (both were on set list last tour but they need to make room for the new material this time round obviously).
10. Me and a mate are now thinking of going to Brum. We knew about the DP gig ages ago but it was very expensive (I know they are hauling an orchestra round) and we decided against it. However, now CT are involved as well it might just swing it back in favour, plus it is a Sunday night which means no last minute dashes trying to get to the venue. Still don't like the NEC as a venue, they milk what they know is pretty much a captive audience in terms of car parking etc so it works out more expensive than, say, Sheffield arena.
11. Saw Yes last week in Sheffield (see previous thread); http://basschat.co.uk/topic/159935-off-to-see-one-of-the-greats-tonight/ I was going to mention that it sounded like some songs were slower than normal but wondered if it was my mind playing tricks. Glenn Hughes is at Nottingham Glee club this Sunday but I don't think I can make it unfortunately. Might put the book on my xmas list though.
12. We currently do 'Molly's chambers' by KoL and it goes down well usually, plus it's only very short and easy so no great effort to learn. Use Somebody has some nice dynamics so I think we'll give that a go, not going to do Sex On Fire though, it's getting to be a bit Mustang Sally for the newer generation (plus I'm not sure I can get the vox and bassline separate enough in my head for one of them to not go horribly wrong!).
13.
I'm friggin sick of it. I was in three bands at one point which ALL did it along with that bloody Sex On Fire song.
Actually I think we might have a stab at 'Somebody Told Me' and KoL's 'Use Somebody', these are probably virtually as ubiquitous in the covers game though!
14. All these replies makes me realise there are far too many covers bands already doing this one so next time the band suggest it I'll veto it. We tried it once in a rough version at rehearsal but it was painfully clear that playing it in D was a step too far for my ageing vocal range so I think we'll give it a miss anyhow!
15. Geoff Downes on keyboards, think he's on the album as well (Fly From Here). Did a decent job, had about 7 different keyboards set up round him plus one of those very 80's style mobile things for a little walkabout soloing toward the end.
16. [sub]*WARNING - SOME SET SPOILER INFO BELOW*[/sub] [sub]Pretty good show in the end, set was similar to 2 years ago so it was Tempus Fugit and Machine Messiah again from Drama. New material from latest album also decent plus classics such as Yours Is No Disgrace, And You and I, Starship Trooper. Also did Wonderous Stories which I don't recall from last time and inevtably Roundabout as the encore. Old Chris seemed to be enjoying himself, still pretty nifty on the bass, used about 5 different ones through the night.[/sub]
17. The maestro Chris Squire playing with a version of Yes tonight in Sheffield. Geoff Downes in it and no Jon Anderson so I'll expect some Drama material as on the last tour a couple of years back. Hope the old fella's up for it !
18. [sub]If this isn't deemed too pacy how about a bit of metheney and his buddies[/sub] [sub][/sub] [sub]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZHW71uW9nU&feature=related[/sub]
19. Don't think I've ever heard a good live Rush sound in person. Sheffield for both S&A and TM tours it was muddy and bassy despite being in very different parts of the arena. I tried Sheffield as previously seen them at Birmingham (HyF and R30) and the sound was ropey for those as well.
20. Make sure the band's gigging radius extends as far as East Midlands, I'd be very interested in seeing a gig with that kind of covers material!
21. Made In Japan. Band at the top of their game, genuine atmosphere and some songs are better than their studio counterparts. Also relatively little (maybe even none?) additional studio overdubs I believe so gets high marks for honesty.
22. Workwise beginning to finally settle in to the new job I started the year before though some of the internal politics is still wearing. Gigging wise very quiet due to me being between bands for most of this year, joined a new one around September, only one gig to date but others now booked for Dec this year ad Jan and Feb next year so far. They lost all contacts from the previous incarnation of the band so it's a hard slog getting venues to book us from scratch, no demo recorded yet. First time in a trio, bit scary but getting there. Recently approached by a band doing original material with potential for work abroad including America but I'll have to turn it down as my day job just wouldn't allow that amount of time away in a single block. Frankly I think they are bit delusional but that's how it was presented to me so I just had to tell them I probably wasn't what they really need. Shame as the material is quite interesting in parts.
23. When I first starting playing midi pedals the very first gig was at a venue where the carpet was virtually the same colour as the pedals themselves. I thought it would be OK but then the house lights went down and as far as I was concerned the damn things just vanished below my feet! Then after being in storage for a while (not needed in my last band) I decided to get them in use again with the new 3 piece band I joined a little while ago. First gig with them and between soundcheck and the gig the band leader installed some floor spotlights. We get on stage, lights go on, I look down where the pedals should be and a blinding yellow spot is pointed up straight in my eyes, pedals completely vanished from view again! I had to go nudge it aside with my foot after making a complete mess of the first song...
24. For a bit of nostalgia... Tull - Living In The Past Camel - Rhayader Focus - Sylvia All nice lines in their own right even though people might think more of the other main instruments involved.
25. Yep GW did some decent stuff for the genre they were in, their singer used to be able to pull off an uncanny impression of Plant when they did Zep covers. Rock Me is good, so is Face The Day. I think it was GW that were involved in a gig where their pyros set fire to the roof in an upstairs venue and some people died, someone might be able to find a link for it. As for the OP, prefer the Hunter version too.
