1. Wooden necked Status basses seem to fetch anywhere from £350-500 depending on condition and who is willing to buy them. My Electro 2 cost me £461 on ebay in A1 condition. Might give you an idea. Hope that helps.
2. It's all just a phallusy.
3.
We have a gear porn forum for this very thing
...and the fretless porn thread, which is even better because the basses are completely naked.
4.
+1. I suspect the lady who responded on your blog is defensive about everything. I'd simply pity her husband/partner/significant other.
You asume she has a husband/partner/significant other. Who would live with that attitude?
5. Just a thought, why not take it to a luthier who might be able to remove the damaged wood with a router. An extra area around the damaged area could be routed and a new piece of wood stuck in flush with the face. Whether or not that is refinished is up to you. I'm sure a competent luthier could do that. Cost might be off putting though.
6. Get a sponge and wedge it between the legs of the bridge. Then stick a microphone in that. If there is a PA at the venue they might have a spare mic. Put that through your bass amp. Probably the cheapest way.
7. Brings to mind my self imposed rule of "if you can't say anything positive then don't say it".
8. Why not upload to something like Soundcloud and then post the link on here.
9. Somebody once said to me "there's a lot more freedom in the sound of a fretless". Your not constrained by the frets. The note can move either way a little before it sounds out of tune. You can get that lovely vibrato as well. Somehow vibrato on a fretted never sounds quite as good. IMHO of course.
10. Mwahahaha...the fretless god has you in his grasp. There is no escape. Corts are actually really good basses for the money. I have been exclusively fretless for years now until a couple of weeks ago when I bought a Cort Action V fretted. Not giving up fretless of course but it's the first fretted bass I have really enjoyed playing for years. If you like flats on your fretless why not try a set of halfwounds on it. They really bring out a lot of tone in a fretless.
11. CH Guitars sell lots of bits on eBay. Crimson Guitars sell some tools too. Guitarwoodsupplies are based in Portugal and sell through eBay.
12. Forgot to add that there are variations between the same kind of string too. Flats generally have quite a high tension due to there being more metal in them. But, then there are Thomastik Jazz Flats which are quite low tension. then there's all the different gauges. Confused? You will be.
13. Roundwound = lots of top end and zing (when new) and a rougher feel Half/preasure/ground wound = the feel of a flat with some of the tone of a roundwound Flatwound = not a lot of top end to the tone and no zing and a smooth feel Whenever this question is asked the same answer always comes out. It is down to personal taste. Don't let anyone tell you that you should use this string or that string. It has to be what you want. What kind of tone do you like on records? What kind of music do you want to play? What kind of feel do you want in a string? All things to consider. Really if you don't know you have to experiment. That means buying different sets and playing them until you find what your ear likes best.
14. Andy McKee does that without any help and with a lot more style. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddn4MGaS3N4
15. Half of wot Mike Rutherford used to use.
16. First one I came across. EDIT: beat me to it.
17. I don't have any experience with the Audere but I have a J-Retro in my Jazz. Really flexible tone control and a monstrous sound from a 9v circuit.
18. Don't worry about 2 or 4 pole. As long as the two poles you wire to on the four pole speakon correspond to the two on the two pole then there won't be a problem. You'll know if you haven't wired to the right poles as the cable will not transmit any signal. I hope that makes sense.
19. Jason just bought my lovely Yamaha BB1100s. Payment came through quickly with no problem and his communications were great. Great to deal with. Recommended. Enjoy the bass and thanks again Jason.
20. Good job. That's better than the demo videos.
21. I think they do this to those of us who are under a certain threshold as a seller. It's nothing to do with your feedback level, just the amount of stuff you have sold, if I remember correctly. Edit: ambient beat me to it.
22. That's an impressive job you've done there Rich. Be interesting to hear what it sounds like. I know, none of us are ever happy. Looks great.
23. Judging by some of your previous posts, Bilbo, you like to get things right. That's fine but remember perfection is not perfect.
24. If you go to http://www.statii.com/forum/news.php and click on "Catalogues &more" you'll find some information further down that page. There's a review of the bass there.
25. I do wish you hadn't posted this. I've just bought an iPad too. I've always been a prog fan. I've always loved Genesis. Guess you know what that means?
