1. All Status basses are as good as that and, compared to the price of some other custom instruments, very good value for money.
2. Very much the right choice. IMHO of course.
3. Another attempt to post video bump http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5EzDMjZbHY
4. Ah come on you lot! Can't you see his air bass leaning against the amp. It's so clear and transparent.
5. Thank you RB but I'd like to know why the video I posted keeps disappearing?
6. For sale only is my Yamaha BB1100s from 1985, made in Japan. P/J pickups. A lovely bass to play. Three band active EQ with switch to passive. Very good condition but for one ding which is shown in pics. Little buckle rash I can't show in photos but hasn't broken the finish. Alder body with maple neck and rosewood fretboard. Nut is 43mm wide. 19mm string spacing. My bathroom scales weight the bass at 4kg/8lb. Frets have a little wear which is to be expected on a bass of this age. Can't say it affects playing. Watch the video and make your own mind up. Controls: Volume, passive tone, Treble, mid, bass, Active/passive switch, Pickup switch Price includes shipping to UK addresses but I do not have a case for it. I have looked into the cost of shipping outside UK and that would cost nearly half the price I am selling for so not really worth it. If you wan't to pick it up from Berwick upon Tweed we can arrange a suitable reduction in price.
7.
Haakon Graf, Per Mathisen & Erik Smith
That is a wonderful bass tone there.
8.
aren't bass players supposed to keep time?
Yes. They keep it in the pocket.
9.
Maybe the wood on the neck is still a little green? Or, maybe the neck is actually bowed (take the strings off, loosen the truss rod - is it still bowed?). There's a guy on Youtube who fixed a neck like that by setting a block at either end of the neck, and placing the neck on the blocks (fretboard side down) and clamping the middle of the neck down towards the bench with quite a bit of force. Maybe that's something to consider?
Please read my opening post.
That's a pain indeed. If it's any consolation, Deirdre Barlow's neck is even more unstable.
No, sorry, she's not headless.
10.
OK, I've done a white/black/white one. Really nicely fitting too. Any better ? I like the fit, but I think I like the UNion Jack better. I think a properly fitting Union Jack one may be in my future.
Nah, too bland. We're a picky lot aren't we. Union Jack for sure.
How about a pickguard in something like a cream/pale yellow to match the binding and the maple fingerboard?
That would make it a bit Flea Bassish, IMHO.
11. No, it's a padel.
12. I'm just about to buy a new Cort Action DLX fiver for half your quoted price. Worth every bit of twice the price. Really impressed with the quality and sound.
13. Some lovely bass playing too.
14. And there was me worrying about buying another bass. Glad to see these lovely Music Men are still there. Fine collection.
15. I couldn't have any lighter strings than those that are on it, 95-25, E-C. Maybe that's why it has been a bit more stable in the last few weeks.
16. As I said in my PM, Rich, don't worry about it. I think the crucial factor for it is to be kept in a stable temperature. It has been in heated rooms for the last couple of weeks and is performing perfectly. My house does tend to get a bit cold at night and that is what induces the forward bow. These things happen, that's life. Just a Friday afternoon neck. I wouldn't like to shave the neck any thinner than it already is. Probably end up exposing the trus rod. I remember one of Iron Maiden's guitarists doing that.
17. Thanks Mart. Looking at the back of the neck I think it is just a badly made neck. It is thicker in the middle than it is at each end, if you see what I mean. As long as the bass is warm it plays beautifully. Dave Reaume of 'Dave's World of Fun Stuff' on YouTube had a live stream recently. I put the problem to him. He seemed to think the neck was just a big pile of s%@#.
18. Just one question I'd like to ask; can you give some information about the bass?
19. I'm just moving to a fiver E-A-D-G-C. I tried TI Jazz Flats 100-43 and bought a single 30 from Stringbusters. Worked really well. I've also put a set of rounds on just now. I had a set of Hot Wires 95-35 in the house so put them on and bought a single 25 from Status. Works really well too. If you are using your 100-45 set you might be best to buy a single 30 or 35 string for the C to keep things balanced. You'll also have to do a setup as there will likely be a higher tension with the C string.
20. This is why these build diaries are so useful. Doing a great job.
21. It's looking great so far Rich.
22. The ever-so-nice people at Strings Direct can provide you with one of these. http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/p/912673/daddario-cg045-chromes-flatwound-electric-guitar-single-string-045/
23. You could buy a radius sanding block and level the fingerboard to your required radius. Can't go wrong for £11. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3984.m570.l1313.TR2.TRC1.A0.Xradius+sanding+block&_nkw=radius+sanding+block&_sacat=0&_from=R40
24. I'm not sure I understand your neck relief measurement. 2.2mm is a hell of a bow. If you straighten the neck out a bit then that will probably allow you to raise the saddles a bit. Straightening the neck usually lowers the action. I set my neck relief at about 0.30mm. 1.8mmG and 1.9mmE is pretty low too if you like to dig in.
25. You went ahead and bought one, Rich. Best of luck with it. I'll look forward to updates.
