It's come to my attention that some people seem to passionately dislike the Markbass speakers/cabs, describing them as being wooly, undefined, and flappy, with poor dispersion, tone, etc, etc.
It has come to my attention that some people like Fender basses. I tried one recently when I bought a couple of pedals. Wish I hadn't. Chunky with an action higher than the Tyne bridge. Not to my taste at all. Subjective, you say. That about sums it up. I love my CMD121P. Never been happier with a sound. Just occurred to me. Maybe it was hearing Fenders through a Markbass that made them sound wooly, undefined, and flappy. Scuze me while I run for my life.

That'swhy it's always worth experimenting, you might just find a new setting you like. If it works for you, go with it. And heed gjones' advice too.

Great! Make lots of music and put some of it in the December competition.

In Band in a Box that I use there is a drop down window that allows you to select the MIDI channel you want. Can't speak for Reaper as I've never used that. Maybe look for a MIDI icon or button on Reaper and see what that says. Took me a wee while to fathom out my MIDI-USB cable before it worked. If it's an older keyboard like your Technics then it might just be firing out on one channel. Again there might be some button on it to do with MIDI. You could just be a bloke and press them all til you find what you want. I found the cable option worked fine for me once I had it working. Band in a Box can run my synth modules no problem through it.

I'd have thought most PCs would have a 'mic in' somewhere on the back. My HP certainly has.

Yes. Click the menu button, scroll over to 'Camera' and click. Select off and then return to main screen by pressing 'Menu' twice. That sets it up to record sound only. Take a line out to your computer and once it is switched on it is a live mic. You could just record on the Q3 and copy across from the SD card as well.
I have a midi - USB cable but nothing happens when I plug it ? I am missing something obvious I am sure
Back to my earlier post which said check that MIDI channels are matching on the keyboard and the computer. There are 16 MIDI channels. If your keyboard is set to channel 1 and computer is receiving on channel 3 you will get no sound.

That's really what I've been thinking. I've had (and have) a 'few' basses over the years and never experienced this before. Just one of these things. At least the bass is so good when it's right that it would be worth having a new neck made.
-
Just make sure that the MIDI out channel on your keyboard matches the MIDI in on the computer.

Looks like another high standard again this month. Good job. -
I bought a bass on here recently which has a rather unstable neck. It arrived with a noticeable forward bow on it. Didn't think much about that and did a setup. Played like a dream so went to bed. Next morning it had developed a forward bow again. The action had risen by at least 1-1.5mm. Trus rod had reached it's maximum and I wasn't going to try turning it any further. I have tried clamping it with the rod loose which allowed a great setup again. Each time I do this it always settles back into the forward bow over night when the room is cooler. The trus rod appears to be dual action so I turned it all the way anticlockwise to induce a forward bow. Clamped it again for a day then left it out the clamp for a while before I restrung it. Strings on, setup and playing like a dream again. Again when I come to it this morning action has risen by 1mm. At least there was some travel left on the trus rod so I gave it a little tweak. Perfect once more. Just checked the action and as the heating is now on, room warming up, the action has gone down again by half a mm. Beginning to annoy me. Anyone any ideas for cures or what might be wrong? The bass is an Ibanez GWB-35, if that helps, from what looks like 2006.

There is a second window that comes up above the button. Choose how often you want to be informed and then click "Follow this topic".

So are frets but nobody complains about them.

Scott Devine is a much better bass player than most of us on here. He should know. I play both and I prefer lines. They are more accurate, if you have a low action that is. If you like a high action then they might not be as accurate as you have to stretch the string further to 'fret' it. I look at the fingerboard too because I want to get my fingers in the right place as I play a lot up at the dusty end of the fingerboard. Jaco Pastorius looked at his fingerboard when he played and he was a much better player than most of us on here. There are no shoulds or shouldn'ts when it comes to this. It is very subjective and down to you. Try them both and see which you like. Lots of people say you should play 'one finger one fret'. Dave Marks says "**** that" (I paraphrase). He should know. He is a much better player than most of us on here.
I'm loving the MB2, sounds amazing, punchy if you want it but mellow and blooming played at the neck. Weight is a slender 5lb 13oz and balanced as well.
A Rob Allen MB2 is one of my dreams and that is a particularly wet dream.

This might be too late but it's all explained clearly here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNt6AO8mhJU

I know it's not everyone's favourite but I've always liked Animals. That album is responsible for me playing bass, full stop. Maybe that's why it isn't everybody's favourite.

You could try lying the bass on its back on a table. Then look at the side of the neck, hold down the E string at each fret and look along the neck as you do that. You might be able to see where the strings are catching the frets. If it's trouble from 7th up, the neck might not be straight enough yet.

Here's some sound clips, just some noodling around. Straight into the recorder via Zoom B2.1u. Strings are an very old set of TI Jazz Flats. https://soundcloud.com/bassbus/sgc-nanyo-bass-collection

As above, all really interesting entries. Some really imaginative stuff. Well done all of you. However, one stood out for me.

I hope it was just a bad batch they had. If they are waiting for a new batch that might be better. Fingers crossed.
I keep on hearing good things about these, must choose a bass to swap one in ... Maybe the status shark 5 (fretless of course).
They really produce as much power as an 18v circuit. It does take a bit of time to get used to all the knobs and what they do (no further comment on that ).
