That's the first time I've seen Jazz From Hell described as progressive.
+1. IMHO I don't really think of anything by FZ that I could label prog, maybe Billy The Mountain or Inca Roads perhaps

Could someone explain DMX to me please?
steve-bbb replied to 4-string-thing's topic in General Discussion
Think MIDI, but for lighting! Hope this helps -
That goes some way to defining the perennial question, "what is Prog?". Lots of keyboards and a sh** vocalist.
Strange you mention this I was only just recently listening to Rick wakeman with Ashley holt on vocals Here's one for you ... Todd Rundgrens Utopia, The Ikon
When checking out a bass one needs to stop thinking one is being tested. The bass is being tested not you. Don't perform. Play every note on every string, Play octaves, play fifths. Use different pickups, play with the tone controls. Etc.etc.
Yup definitely this although I go a step further and also make it look and sound intentionally naff - extra points if you can get the shop assistant to roll their eyes

Farriers beer festival at Mersham, luckily we played in the main marquee in daylight on Saturday afternoon when it was nice and sunny - my commiserations to any fellow basschatters who were unfortunate enough to play the previous night in somewhat 'challenging' light conditions On a plus note though the sound system and team was good as always at this event and FOH sound was very pleasing Followed immediately by a gig in a marquee in a field in the middle of Kent which was very well attended by an enthusiastic crowd These two were proceeded by the Friday night gig at the horseshoes in East Farleigh which is a rather superb country village local pub and was the first live music event for them hopefully with regular events to follow So three gigs within 24 hours , now I have to catch up on all the domestic chores!

Don't forget too the shape of the sound as Kiwi mentions the attack is more responsive but the sustain and decay seem to go on for ever compared to the average wooden neck too on a bolt on graphite the sustain is immense but on the full through necks where the bridge is screwed directly into the graphite the sustain is absolutely ridiculous, which can be hindrance for some styles or genres but if your music demands longs sustained bass pedal notes with minimal decay and maximum sustain then a full graphite through neck is definitely the one for you

The simple solution is 'don't turn up'

just gpt myself on eof these - seems to be fine for occaisional small jobs wiring pots plugs etc and small enough to go in my small gig toolbox for emergency on-site repairs http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/antex-30w-soldering-iron-includes-stand-n11by
Bring gaffa tape/batteries/spare leads and a spare bass (If possible) to every gig, never know when something can go down.
and a soldering iron seriously though i do carry one of those small placcy flip top tool box thingys full of sort of electrical knick-knacks including but not limited to, soldering iron and solder, gaffer tap, leccy tape. connector blocks, spare fuses, mini screwdriver allen keys, a few odd screws and spare jack plugs and stuff - doesnt take up much room and leave it in the boot of the car until needed recently proved its worth to me personally by allowing me to repair a disconnected wire inside my J knob panel and thus prevented me from having to play the entire gig on the 'other' bass (a fretless)
Well I Googled it and it turns out he is quite the producer after all: http://www.spin.com/...-feature-kanye/ Doesn't change the fact he's massive dickhead though.
to quote from that article.... Since then, Yeezy has obviously grown more loquacious, to the point where his lyrics and quotes have become such an integral part of the pop vernacular that you can echo him regularly without even realizing it. But every now and then, he’ll still offer a beat to a worthy (or occasionally less so) contemporary without speaking on the track, just to remind us that even if he can change the musical conversation with a single line, he hasn’t forgotten which half of the rapper/producer equation he made his bones with. bet whoever wrote that is back-pedalling furiously after the glasto-train crash - that or in hiding in argentina or something
The only thing that really bugs me about his is how often he doesn't ask permission when taking other peoples music to sample, seems to prefer letting the lawyers sort it out when the original artist is made aware.
Surely you wouldn't expect an artiste of such overwhelming creative genius to be bogged down and stifled by such mundane and tawdry matters? On a separate note .... Mr West, I predict, will, in the not too distant future, when there is not much going on in the news (or possibly some news of grave importance from which us Plebs need distracting,) experience a 'britney style' meltdown of monumentally epic proportions

Is it really in the fingers and not the bass?
steve-bbb replied to jazzyvee's topic in General Discussion
apparently some people can tell the difference in tone with a heavy mass bridge/saddles -
Hopeless live sound - all the gear, no idea.
I don't understand why guys who have clearly invested huge amounts of time learning their craft, and big bucks on their gear, don't appear to have spent any time learning how it actually works! Bizarre, or is it me?
i think this might apply to quite a few bass players too
