3.
Oh dear... not doing well here!
no youre doing great!!! old school is good lots of us are very old on here
 4. very sad saw him twice recently at ronnie scotts - was amazing this vid is not ronnie's but very similar small jazz club... (and Uncle Remus one of the few zappa songs with shared writing credits)
 5.
Well, playing the classic rock stuff seems to suit it anyway and I have started using the felt picks that ukele players use for the R+B stuff and it give a really nice sort of muted sound just like my fingers! I find it much easier to keep time with pick which starts to drift with fingers. My mind says they can do it but they don't have the mobility they once did - and they don't hurt!! I don't like popping or slapping anyway, have always been a bit old school.
oh dear you said the 'S' word <runs for cover>
 6.
I am afraid that it is pick playing all the way for me
youve done it now !!

 9. anybody else suffer from any sort of hearing fatigue where pitch becomes a bit of an issue? ive noticed a few times at gigs over last year or so that after a couple of hours at volume, occasionally with just a small range of notes (often around low E to Low A) that what my brain is interpreting from my ears is not the correct pitch. ive learnt not to adjust tuning as the bass is usually always still in tune but im just hearing a small range of notes slightly off pitch. doesnt always happen with volume either - recently i acquired a (new) bass and swapped the bridge back over for the original - and have spent 3-4 weeks chasing the intonation around to get the pesky thing set up. i thought i had it cracked last weekend then took it out and gigged it blaming the heat and humidity for the tuning problems but closer inspection showed it to be the intonation. yesterday i sat down quietly got the tuner and allen key out and did it all absolutley spot on in about ten minutes. whats that all about? anybody else suffer from variable hearing? maybe is just an age thing
 10. congrats show her a pic of a P and a J and see which she chooses for you

 16.
Your title is misleading to the question. "Memorable" isn't the word you're looking for. I think a lot of the "best" basslines that are in the top whatevers are there because most of the songs are very well known pop songs. A good example would be how many jazz songs make it into these lists? The Waking by Kurt Elling has a tremendous bassline that if a band like Queen, Muse or someone else famous had written it, it would then be a "top" bassline. It's not just Jazz, you could take any non pop genre & find some killer basslines that put most of the pop top down the overall list. Funk is a great example of cool & groovy basslines. Not that many folk listen to actual funk though. The closest most seem to get to funk is RHCP, & whilst they're funky, they're not funk. So what makes a "memorable" bassline? One in a popular song. 17.
Active doesn't necessarily mean high output;. I have a couple of "passive" basses whose output level exceeds the average active bass.

my active stingray has lower output than my passivw lakeland jo. im not sure that its anything to worry about
this would partly explain why i was perplexed that the guitars in my band seemed to be getting louder and louder - my head, as many others do, has two inputs one passive one active, i thought i had a problem with my head as when i used this matrix through the active input it lost all its oomph but now through trial and error i use this matrix through the passive input and all the power is back. conversely the output from the TRB is pretty big and that always goes in the active input (the fact that it eats 9v batteries too seems to be a bit of an indicator it has a much bigger output i guess not worrying as such mr bumnote but is nice to become aware of these things rather than just assuming that everything does as it says on the tin
 18.
So the passive tone works with the active circuit? Seems a bit strange... have you tried taking the battery out and seeing if you still get an output? Maybe the circuit's been bypassed and isn't actually doing anything?
Hi Rich I just got a reply from Rob they've all been on their summer hols Hi Steve, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The workshop has a summer break until Monday 5th August. The board is original but we only used it for a very short time. It is a simple hi / low impedance buffer rather than an active EQ. Best regards, Rob Green
 19. you could SMART the technique for sure but the musicality? that will require some more outside the box blue-sky thinking methinks
 20. last forever? surely even the might kingbass neck will crumble to dust eventually - i already have two squier J's so another three different models would be fine i guess and cheaper in the long run
 21. two Works shops in chatham - i found me a copy yesterday
To be honest, I flicked through it in one of their shops a few months ago and decided it wasn't worth a fiver!
but consider the cost of a monthly issue of BGM or any other glossy monthlies and i dont think its a bad buy if you have a fiver to spare - certainly some useful bathtime reading in there about all the early history if you werent already familiar
 22. Farriers Beer Festival 2013 last weekend can you guess which one is me?
 23. with weddings it would be expected that there will be all ages groups there so would be good to throw in a decent selction of stuff from 60s 70s 80s (skip the 90s that was mostly pants) and maybe even a big one from the 50s 60s and 80s in particular there are oodles of good tunes and you should be spoilt for choice depending on how well you know th e wedding party would dictate what tunes to suggest - if only acqauintances then a safe selection would be appropriate - if you all know them really well and they have a good sense of humour then you could be a bit more adventurous with the selection
