I think it's because more of the body is in contact with the neck it's supposed to have more tone.
i would be inclined to agree with this sentiment - personally am against shimming too as a setup fix as imho it is affecting the neck/pocket contact area - ive even resorted to routing out a millimetre of body surface to drop the thicker gotoh 201 bridge down to get full adjustment rather than shimming i tried it and imho it sounded pants and neck stability was definitely an issue so although i havent played one i would expect a single cutaway to add to stability and tone transmission throughout the whole instrument hopefully somebody will have one of these ugly little critters at the SE bass bash and i can have a proper look-see
Both.
yes yes i know but did you check the bidding? bit weird no???
-
not being an ebay expert just been lucky enough in the past to catch a couple of really good bargains on there was going to put a bid on this item number 200955632230 o***n (102) making earlier bids but now o***n(0) bidding in the last hour - are these disguised usernames randomly generated and have no repation to the actual username or am i just a miserable extremley suspicious old cynic even as i type the bids have now jumped rather disproportionately from 100 to 155 ??? call me a cynic but im giving this one a wide berth
IIRC Antigua was never supposed to look like that. The paint went wrong.
do we know of an artists impression of how it was supposed to look? i must admit that photo does make it look glossy and vaguely appealling but in the flesh in raw daylight it really is the most putrid hue
True, and the American Vintage series were fine instruments. But you don't turn round a culture of almost two decades of cost cutting overnight, and Fender were putting out some rather bizarre instruments around that period. I think it would be wise to try any Fender from this period before buying, but then again that's true of most basses.
would that be around the time this monstrous paint job escaped from the factory?
There are many hidden Steve's on here. It might be the most popular name for bassists. Oh yes.
its an age thing old chap

there are plenty of artists who do not write and are very memorable there are artists who write who really deserve more recognition (paul brady for instance) conversely there are many writers who are amazing but never get anywhere near the limelight and can still walk down cleethorpes high street unrecognised even after penning some of the most memorable tunes of the past 30 years

Are high end basses for investors or musicians?
steve-bbb replied to Pinball's topic in General Discussion
To my ears Foderas sound very similar to jazz basses!

But not quite as good.
+1 didnt that recent thread with the vid clip comparing loads of different J's and J types have a (dull sounding) fodera in it? for people who want to buy as an investment i would suggest that they are loaded and are just happy to spend money on shiny toys . at one end of th espectrum they may be used regulalrly for gigging and become extremley roadworn! at the other end of the spectrum they may just end up hanging on the wall like some hipster equivalent of a chav samurai sword is investment a possible misnomer? how about replace investment with indulgence? not for one minute going to criticise people for indulging just suggesting it as a possible alternative descriptor. if youve worked and earned your dosh or inherited it doesnt matter just buy it and enjoy it and indulge yourself only you can answer your own questions as to whether you feel youve earned or deserve it - if you can afford to buy like this it begs the question that you probably have enough dosh that you have your 'real investments' elsewhere an example... Chris Evans and his ferrari collection ... is it an investment or indulgence? nobody would doubt that these cars hold and increase their value but to a man with his sort of personal wealth is this an investment or indulgence? an investor would likely put them in a garage/showroom and enjoy them as a static display and not put them anywhere near any risk of damage whatsoever. an enthusiast with a passion for them would indulge and use them as he does regularly. is he an investor or an indulger?? -
I don't think she'll ever crossover to having mass popular appeal.
good old popular appeal shall we vote for the lovely Esperanza or wait for the next heap of talentless dross served up by simon scowell (he is jolly good at mass popular appeal after all)
