Buckle Rash and various assorted chippings, dinks and dongs
steve-bbb replied to Delberthot's topic in General Discussion
ive never yet heard of a punter coming up at a gig and asking to see the back of an instrument to check for buckle rash and if they did would your bass skills diminish in their esteem if your bass was all scabby like? -
Totally disagree Steve. While the enhance circuit does add a lot of very high end, which you wouldn't necessarily get from a passive bass, it's very synthetic high end and not desirable at all IMO. As a limiter it's a great pedal, just keep the enhance control turned off!
i keep the enhance down under 50% - am very keen to try the hartke pedal too hopefully somebody may have one at the SE bass bash to tempt me away from the LMB-3 so i can flog it to Cosmo
What do these actually do? Not being sarcastic, I really don't know!
aside from basic compression they sort of colour and enhance the tone rather nicely - if you have a nice passive bass and wonder what it would sound like with active EQ on board then just put it through one of these and you will get a fairly good idea soundcheck here and a few up on youtube also

likewise - i thought this and the preceding few albums were so good that the following albums after signals didnt really cut it for me and post signals was when i slowly started to drift away from having them up there in my top favourites
Surprising how few people are using Ampeg which I expected to see more off. Lightweights seem to be most popular too. Dave
i would be interested to see some statistical analysis of gear weight against player age for as long as my back will stand it i will lug the hartke kit around if only hartke made a more powerful small 12/15 combo and small extension cab...........

How do you keep your kids interested in music lessons?!
steve-bbb replied to tedmanzie's topic in General Discussion
You don't - if they're interested then they're interested, but don't try & force your interest in music onto your kids; there's nothing worse than being forced to do something you have no interest in.
this and also if they perceive the whole piano schtick as 'being cool and fun' because you like it then despite the informal setting that will put them off even more (kids/parents psychology 101) also mushers comment too above about peer pressure counts for a lot with kids that age - they are much more likely to be motivated if their friends are doing likewise and enjoying it -
Hartke cab and head main reason - best value decent rig going imho
-
Squier are cheaper and just as good ....imho
-
ooh yes forgot that one thats a nice one too - best played on autopilot though rather than trying to count

is there anything externally link wise showing the travels and/or current whereabouts of the bass? (google map??) thread is getting very long and is often difficult to try and figure out if it is nearby anywhere - thanks edit- just found the facebook page which seems to be most up to date - if anybody from pompey might be heading to kent/london direction i would be happy to meet up and collect and pass it on to 4strings tomorrow
-
I have a charity gig in East London on Saturday, any use?
i have gig in maidstone tonight is the bass anywhere near Kent at the moment? i could hand it over to 4strings tomorrow morning

South East Bass Bash No.7, Surrey, Saturday 21st September 2013
steve-bbb replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
Just 'normal' traffic. Saturdays are usually ok fingers crossed!
last year was some accident around J9/10(?) iirc - i was on M26 and heard the traffic news (3 hour queues) just in time to turn off so that i didnt have to do the 18 mile stretch to the next junction -
admit it youre stuck on SOF arent you listen to Bootsy - he teach you all bout the ONE
Can you count? If it's in 4/4 then you only need to count to 4, 5/4 requires an extra syllable. Ask the drummer if he'll do the counting out loud to start with.
haha - personally i find 'not conciously counting' them better than counting - if i try and start counting in my head and play at same time i probably stop breathing some fives are obvious fives and sound clumsy but what about the real clever fives that dont immediately strike you as being a five? Dave Brubecks Take Five is a very skilfully crafted 5 as is the chorus in Wind Up Working in a Gas Station

cant make up my mind if this is Nigel or Discreet

are you in Kent? I know of a very good amp tech in maidstone
