1.
I'm asking because I was looking at an Ampeg SVT VR which has 2 channels. I was told that each channel was 150 watts, but to get 300 watts like a CL you'd need to bi-amp it. Is this true, and how would it be done?
bi-amp or bridge?
2. will angled baffles really make much difference? like if you have a horn/tweeter there then making sure it goes vertically up enough should be enough? Or alternatively to me it makes sense from a form and engineering POV to do something like green boy did with his range and make it tiltable.
3. odd thing that however good or not a system it is by patenting it it mean it falls into obscurity
4.
Design the best cab for metal \m/ Seriously though, fair play for taking this on and sharing it. It's gonna be an interesting watch. One suggestion I'd make would be having the 1x12 switchable between 8 and 4 ohms. Obviously the more components added will increase the overall cost but perhaps the final plans could have this as an option.
how? by having a dummy load in there?
5.
Yes mate but as someone mentioned it's gotta be flat to be able to support an amp on top, that's why I thought of a box with one straight, one facing about 40 degrees up but in a straight box.
.... or something else to support the amp...
6.
Alright you got me going lol Just a little drawing of what I had in mind. Please pardon my French - I am no design specialist and those are my first attempts with paint. The yellow would represent a grill http://www.mediafire...9kz3rla3xgej35m - one 12 with additional routing of the sound to point the player. http://www.mediafire...47i1q1ejv21bd3t - two x12' or 10' where one points at the player. The front grill goes up the top to let's say half way I don't know if any of that is actually realistic and possible to build but I would love to have better reference on stage without having 4 cabs. How the heck do you post images here?
Would something similar to EAD's 112 design work?
7. what a Jazz bass rick!
8. bummppp £250 anyone....
9.
Bump for Leeds BCers! If it's P bass size i'll have it
sorry only just saw this.... it would have been too small and.... well the wife decided it needed to find a new home in the recycling....
10.
Controversial - please don't use the BF style textured paint.
it's plans to build yourself - you could finish it in leopard print fur or piano black high gloss if you wanted!
11. the more basschatters I meet the more i realise I'm a really bad bass player...
12.
If you're going to work hard and designing, building and promoting the 'ideal' bass cab, won't you be exposing yourself to massive amounts of flak from fanboys, haters, losers, geeks, trolls, flamers, asreholes, fanboy haters, geek flamers, loser trolls, troll losers and... bass players? Edit: ...and flaming geek troll loser fanboy hater arsehole bass players..?
and discreet.....
13. I think the most interesting thing will be (if you guys have the time) your commentary on what design decisions you are making and why. The more I learn about cabs the more I realise it's a balancing of compromises in design. So to hear what the aims are, what design problem they are solving etc... where they differ from say Bill FM's simplexx range or the fearful range (price on that one!) would be interesting.
14. something based around parts that are easily sourced in the UK/EU would be nice. Something full range with decent low end extension would be nice.
15. who ever did the two lines on walk on the wild side
16.
Schecter are great. Just not recognized over here for some reason. Recession obviously has something to do with it .
Schecter though I think in the UK have almost zero desirability, in my mind I associate them with american metal bands I've never heard of, they also were THE brand that you could get for next to nothing in Soundcontrol (remember them?) and would always be in the sale. I have no idea about their marketing but virtually every other maker I could tell you something about their back story - not schecter - If I had to guess I would think they were a poor mans korean version of ESP or something.... hang on google it... googled.... well the logo is set in black letter... there's a way of limiting your appeal! oh according to Wikipedia I'm half right, started as a spare parts and upgrade company, then moved to making high end stuff then mass production, owned by the same person as ESP and now made in korea... scarily good guess....

Which Pre?

that bass also has a voltage multiplier fitted to run the preamp at 18v I'm glad it's found a new home
18. I'ld love either!
19. it's just a cap and a resistor isn't it? just get ones the right size...
20. sounds exciting - those tokai are good basses - if it's just pickups it needs then wait a week or two - buy some off here secondhand - cheap ones will prob be £10 or so, you don't need to spend much (to begin with) and just play! have you got photos of the bass in question?
21.
With respect, and just sayin'... From post 2... Replies have been mostly with this in mind, methinks..?
Yeah I think there have been some brilliant replies and some really good ideas.
22. Not meaning to be a kill joy, and I'm not attempting to offend anyone... the OP came in and asked the best way to do something with an idea of how to do it. a lot of us came back and pointed out that it possibly wasn't the best way and suggested other ways to get the same effect- most going the same way that Dave_the_bass just suggested... the OP wants to try the mic option.... maybe it's one of those things that you think of and then just have to try/do and the OP should just go for it. If he's not comfortable with how it works he can always come back and read some other suggestions of how to easily do what he's wanting to do....
23. bump more photos available if anyone wants to see them!
24. It's a combination someone with an image/band that fits the bass, and/or a desirable brand or item them having money, them needing the bass- either as an upgrade to what they have or a cheaper second bass, and of course, the biggest of them all - the right price. you need all four...
