1. Nobody's mentioned Mick Jagger?
2. RIP Sad news indeed for a man who's had such an impact on every rocker out there. I remember going to an Yngwie Malmsteen gig and he randomly brought Jim out at the end after singing the praises of his wonderful amps
3. These are amazing pedals! You can have the most extremely fast and heavy compression and it doesn't affect your tone whatsoever!
4. They'd send you a B string
5. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/223319_10150178927594839_510439838_6647830_2392511_n.jpg All those are powered by a Johnny Shredfreak, dead silent unless i crank the hell out of the dirt pedals, but that's a given
6. Nothing too disastrous for me thankfully (yet!) A few times during soundcheck I've panicked at the lack of output no matter how hard I turn up the master volume on my amp... Only to discover that my lead is on the floor instead of plugged into my bass.... Stupid stupid stupid! I once brought everything to a gig as usual... Bass, pedalboard, amp, cab, leads... Well... All leads except the speakon. Pretty odd considering my rig is always set up at home so I must had unplugged it then just thrown it on the floor :S thankfully the bassist from Collision Process offered to go and fetch his... And even let me borrow his Barefaced S12T! So that worked out pretty well
7. Someone needs to hurry up and buy this, I'm already considering offering my son as a trade
8. Blimey that an amazing price for some rare and extremely high quality stuff!
9.
He has, he's bought a Peavey Grind 6. It's difficult to find an easier-playing 6.
True dat
10. Dude it took me about a year to be brave enough to gig my 6 for the first time, sounds like you're doing well! I'm actually more at home on a 6 string these days but still love playing the old 4 banger as much as I can Strangely enough because I too went from 4 to 6... I am absolutely hopeless on a 5 string! What's with that ?
11. That's the most unlikely but amazing story I've head in a long time! Congratulations on finding her again! And props to the eBay seller for being so helpful
12. My Peavey International 4 string. First bass I ever owned and its still the best! Soundwise, it's like a Stingray with a top end rollof, and its passive! Only cost me £50 too
13. Why do that to the fretboard? It looks unusable!
14. What a strange person
15. I paid more than this for my markbass 4x10! Never thought it was anything other than money well spent. Whoever comes to their senses first and buys it will be very happy
16. My first proper amp was the R5, the older version of the RB7. Even with the stock speakers in it was absolutely brilliant and if I hadn't been able to afford my Markbass rig I'd never have gotten rid!
17.
not that this will help much, but i paid £180 for my 6 string Grind on here, which i reckon was a great price. Such well made and great sounding basses.
You git! Mine cost me £250
18. You can get a brand new one for less than £300 easily, so even though they're amazing basses they're not worth much.
19. I play in a few metal bands with 2 guitarists and very enthusiastic drummers. My passive bass goes through a 500w Markbass head and an 8 ohm 4x10 cabinet. I use a lot of pedals but none of them boost my volume at all. So essentially I'm getting 300w of solid state goodness. I've only ever turned it up past halfway on one gig and hardly ever use PA support. So that's what... 150w that im using? And I'm always getting sick tone and plenty of volume So er, that's a vote for markbass!
20. I get mine from Newtone, I just worked out the tension and gauges myself using a chart I found on the Circle K site (cheeky I know!) they are amazing and 2 sets of 6 stringers cost me about £65 incluing postage!
21. I use them on my downtuned 6 string, it definitely feels and sounds more even across the strings, and I'm convinced it keeps the output level a bit more consistent, so you're not using a different technique on the lower ones as opposed to the higher ones. You wont notice the benefit so much on say a 4 string I don't think. Definitely worth a try though!
22. I use Whirlwind cables. Very high quality, durable, and a lifetime warranty! Very expensive though. If I was a member of BC a few years back I'd have probably gone with OBBM's cables aswell on the strength of all the glowing reviews by everyone else here
23.
Huge and brutal? Distortion/fuzz on it's own can get you the brutal, but not always the huge. Think angry Alsatian. Certainly big and strongh, but you can add more to get really huge and brutal. For a real rabid Rottweiler of a tone, I'd start with a compressor. It'll fatten up your tone and can help your distrortion/fuzz produce a more consistent tone. If it can also introduce a bit of grit, this might not be a bad thing, but you want one that definitely does not lose your lows. Then into distortion/fuzz with blend - you'll want to keep that fat bass from the comp for the hugeness. Want the guitarist quaking? Lets slip this p1ssed off pooch some crystal meth. Get an EQ and put it before the dirt and put both in the loop of blender. You've opened up your dirt choices, because we don't need a blend on the pedal and the EQ will let you push the dirt harder and shape it more. Shall we add a collar with big pointy spikes? After the blender you could stick a milder drive to push the dirt a little further and add a bit of attitude to the clean tone. One case for prosecution under the Dangerous [s]Dogs[/s] Distortion Act.
This. My signal chain is bass - aguilar comp - sansamp (this has blend and EQ built in), Marshall jackhammer. Those are the core of my nasty sounds when I need them. Big Muff and other effects come after. The only thing im missing is a noise gate! The sansamp is awesome but mines creates a lot of hiss
