Personally I prefer using a clean SS amp, and having a completely clean sound to start with... Gives you a lot of versatility if you mix it up with decent pedals!

Fender P-Bass comparison. Guess which is which!
chrismuzz replied to Miki Groove's topic in Bass Guitars
How about that! My favourite was actually the MIM! it sounds extremely similar to the '58... certainly wouldn't sound any different in the mix! I know what I would go for That was really cool man, more threads like this would be ... well.. more fun! -
I've justbtaken delivery of a Hyperdrive but not had a chance to play with it properly yet. My 'band pass' distortion comes in the form of an Ampeg Billy Sheehan bass preamp. It's a hard one to beat as it has a full clean valve preamp and a seperate distortion channel that can be combined. I pull the lows and the highs of the distortion out and tune the mids to slot in the scoop of my clean signal thus giving me a nice rounded fat tone that is nice and distorted too. Clean bottom and top, dirty mids. Slap sounds great through it. It's a rack unit, but i have thought about having a pedal version custom made several times. Its so good, i sold the first unit I had and then had to search to buy another!
I really want to try somethinglike this but in pedal form! I never thought about actually removing the frequencies from the clean and replacing them with the distorted sound. Would this be more beneficial than having certain frequencies overlapping?

VT Bass, Sansamp BDDI/Behringer BDI21 (practically identical), my Marshall Jackhammer has some really sweet low gain settings but can go to full on filth if needed! Those are the best of all the pedals I've personally used, im sure a huge amount of other awesome pedals will be recommended soon enough

It's awesome to see this thread getting a kickstart, as much as many of them are now available in YouTube... I'm being inspired to check out tracks I wouldnt normally have thought of

String tree screw head made of cheese...removal???

Is it ACTUALLY made of ACTUAL cheese? -
I'm afraid so. Probably one of the biggest reasons why 2 2x10s stacked vertically are recommended over the trad 4x10. If you stand in front of your 4x10 when you're playing with your band (not close up to it, maybe 10'-20' away) & then walk off axis, you'll most likely notice a drop in volume.
Ahh I see! I thought it was just because I was outside the range of the speakers so most of the air just kind of... Blew past me? hmm! Oh well, it means If using a 4x10 I can be louder than the other instruments on stage without disturbing the other band members! Could actually be a positive thing
... put the 10"s horizontally & then the soundwaves fight one another
is this true? So would this mean that the famous 4x10 cabinet is not as great as it could be?

vintage japanese fender 1990
chrismuzz replied to SidVicious1978's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
On ebay 'vintage' means anything that is dirty and worn, or looks like it might be old if you don't know anything about history and squint really hard -
Fender P-Bass comparison. Guess which is which!
chrismuzz replied to Miki Groove's topic in Bass Guitars
Tomorrow you'll get the answer
Awesome! Really intrigued now after re-listening to the clips... The playing seemed cleaner on the intricate parts in the first one so I would guess that the setup and build quality were better on it! -
Fender P-Bass comparison. Guess which is which!
chrismuzz replied to Miki Groove's topic in Bass Guitars
I prefer the first clip, it sounds clearer than the rest... Then comes the 3rd clip. Don't like the 2nd clip much but then the strings are old! I don't know much about Fenders at all so i daren't guess.. But I'd love to know which is which! Should have chucked a Squier, or maybe even a Sue Ryder into the mix as well to make things really interesting! -
1. Buy a Barefaced 2. Buy another boutique lightweight cabinet that isn't a Barefaced 3. Buy (insert what person replying is playing) 4. Buy two 2x10 cabinets and stack them vertically for best sound dispersion. 5. Buy (insert gear person replying is trying to sell) 6. Buy this new product that was introduced at NAMM but isn't out for another 6 months!
Just realised my response doesn't fit into any of these categories... WIN!

As always, personal preference will prevail in these threads... Saying that here's mine! something with 10 inch speakers Either two 2x10s, a 4x10, a 4x10 and a 2x10.... whatever! From what I've tried those are the 'punchiest' cabs If you're looking for cheap I would recomend Ashdown, I really like their stuff! Also check out Peavey, and maybe Ampeg if your budget can stretch a little See what's affordable in the For Sale section on here, and good luck!

Lot's of widdly guitar I know but.......
chrismuzz replied to alanbass1's topic in General Discussion
I'm a big fan of Steve Vai, and Billy Sheehan, they worked so well together! Crossroads was an epic movie, watched it for the first time whilst I was at college -
My board idea so far: The MT-2 isn't mine, it's just here before it gets whisked off to it's owner (Though i do have one, that's somehow totally dead, and i'm watching one on Ebay). Going to get a board over the weekend and i've got my eye on a Marshall Jackhammer on Ebay as well. Running the MT-2 into the BDI-21 gives me nice, heavily distorted Hysteria (The Muse song) style tone that sounds absolutely beautiful but it's nasty (In a good way). Liam
Should be a sweet little setup! I always prefer the BDDI/BDI21 before any other drive pedals for some reason, Seems to give you a more definable attack. Try that too if you havent yet!
You should swear less in it, so kids can read it and be encouraged to play around inside electrical equipment.
C'mon now we can't all have sexy ladies posing in front of piles of sexy amps can we ?

I can't really comment on the aeshetics, since I have a fetish for yellow speakers

Welcome dude! Great place aint it! I can never keep away... may you always find shiny new things to want -
In my first proper band, the guitarist worked very closely with me when it came to the sound, we adjusted our sounds so that they complimented eachother perfectly, it was great! Next band I was in, they didn't care what I played as long as they couldn't actually hear my bass In Malacite, I always get comments on my sound, or if I decide to try a new effect And in the cover band, right from the audition I was getting showered with praise on my actual playing, but I don't think anyone's too bothered about what I use... they did notice when I turned up to rehearsal with a new 5 string, which was surprising Pretty much everybody who ever sees me play comments on the yellow speakers though

Nice Have fun dude!

Nice Just goes to show that a heavy attack and a bit of fretbuzz can really add some character! -
