1. Most of it is fairly straight forward technically if you can remember all of it There are a few fast repeating patterns that are really tricky for me personally though! There's a guy on youtube who plays it an amazing cover of it, if it helps to see it actually played! If not it's still a joy to watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieRikR39FJA
2. Bass players are rare round these parts. Particularly those who can play in time, have their own gear, and have a good tone. Those to me are must-have qualities in any serious bassist. I should probably be more easily replacable than I actually am!
3. That's awesome man, never seen a bass tattoo quite like it!
4. Only time I ever had a 'problem' with ordering from effectpowersupplies was when the pedal I ordered wasn't in stock... Somebody from the store actually phoned me up to tell me this. I was told when I could expect it to arrive, and asked if i'd prefer to wait, to cancel the delivery, or if I'd like an alternative... Was even given some pretty decent info on other similar pedals in the price range! Pretty impressive really EDIT: Don't remember the name of the guy I'm afraid, but if it was Richard.. Cheers Richard!
5. I liked my old Shine 6 string, it was really comfortable if a tiny bit neck heavy, and sounded great when recorded. Only got rid of it because I wanted to stick with my Peaveys
6. These amps are amazing. Paid £600 for my one and even that was a wicked deal for what it is! Compared to the LMII I found it allowed more attack to come through which in turn helps cut through in a band setting. I havent used them both enough to tell you which is louder, but I know which I prefer!
7. Also, from way I have heard and read so far, the Zoom B3 does an insanely good Sansamp clone (with a mid knob!). This also would be cheaper than the real thing, AND with the bonus of a shedload of other effects thrown in! EDIT: Plus you can blend your clean signal with all effects separately, AND with the entire unit at once so no need for bi-amping or signal splitting!
8. I have an Aguilar TLC, And I have the most extreme settings EVER on it... Still hasn't changed my tone one little bit Highly recommended!
9. Man, that really sucks and I've never heard of so much gear with such high value all going missing at once Really cool of whoever it was to lend them the gear they needed to finish their tour though! Goes to show there are some good eggs out there after all I really hope everything is recovered in the same condition it was!
10. Ooh, can anyone recommend a decent expression pedal that'll be compatible with this? The Zoom FP02 that they recommend looks a bit flimsy for what the asking price is
11.
I was actually just going to post about tonesucking or not, because some guy on talkbass said he got it. Personally, I couldn't notice any difference. I plugged bass > B3 > amp, then bass > amp a few times, never noticed any colour or tonesucking. I have new strings, and the zing and twang were all there. As for the tuner, I have the Pitchblack too. You know how with the PB you get one red LED lighting just slightly if you are very slightly out of tune? That allows you to tune to perfection. With the B3 the screens are pretty useless besides telling you the note you're on, it's all about the lights on the top, and they always light fully, so if you are 1% high, the red light to the right will light full on, perhaps blink if it's very slight, but it's hard to have a fully gradual feel from it as I guess each light represents a certain percentage range... I won't say it's not accurate because when I moved the tuning peg up or down just a tiny touch from tuned, it noticed and signaled out of tune, but the whole concept is a bit weird... Makes me feel a bit uneasy and hard to trust as much as with a PB. The screens could have been used much better for this. On the M5, you have a horizontal bar and a big dot moves freely left to right on it, it's not 'stepped', so though not as good as the PB and hard to see the note from the height of my 1.88m, it's still pretty good. Also, on the B3, the tuner doesn't mute strings by default with the 1 sec press, you have to do a longer press of 2 secs for it to mute, not sure if this can be changed or not but it's a bit annoying. I like lightning fast D-dropping between songs
Thanks man, the lack of tone suckage has pretty much sold this to me! I can deal with just not using the tuner and keeping the Pitchblack if I'm not happy with that. Shame I don't have any money at the moment or I'd have yours straight off you! Poooooo!
12. Thanks for the incredibly detailed review fenderhead! Couple of little questions for you if you don't mind: Does the unit colour, alter, or suck your tone when, for example, having no effects active? What was it you disliked about the tuner? Does it still track well? I use a Korg Pitchblack at the moment and was hoping one of these would be a decent replacement. Thanks again!
13. I have three basses, all very similar in spec (Peaveys with 2 passive humbuckers), in different tunings. So my choice of bass depends entirely on which tuning the band I'm currently playing with uses!
14. Fancy doing a trade? My ego doesn't have a very prominent effect on my bass playing, it is in fact rather subtle in a pleasant way. but is very noticeable when it comes to all other things
15. Basically, the VPF filter cuts a wider amount of mids the more you turn it up. The VLE cuts the very highest frequencies at first, but again cuts a wider range of highs the more you turn it up. So no, neither of those do the job of the thumpinator.
16.
My only potential criticism is that zoom havent included drain channels in the sides of the unit so that audience beer spills don't collect in the well where the control knobs are
Bastards!
17. Grrr if only I didn't have car insurance to pay!
18. I've been to auditions where I've been given songs to learn, covers to learn, or just had to go in blind before! In your situation, if you're fairly well versed in rock music, just turn up with your P Bass and play along to whatever they throw at you, you won't have an issue Maybe jam out a few riff/bassline ideas to let them see what sort of thing you can bring to the table. If you gel with them, it doesn't matter that you don't know the songs yet. You'll know them soon enough
19. Thanks Richard, that is a really attractive price! Must get finances in order soon! Also guys, I've ordered from effectpowersupplies before and got a really good customer service experience from them, so they definitely deserve our business Edited because I'm a clumsy typist.
20.
Have you tried the different types of Rotosounds...? Their range is extensive...
I have tried a few yes, but due to shop availability at the time discovered other brands that work better for me. I won't sit here and promote them though since this is a Roto thread
21. Only ever used one on a gig myself, so never heard one solo. In the mix is definitely where this thing belongs! You cut right through the mix but dont overpower it. Buy it, try it, gig it, believe it!
22. Man this is awesome! I wish I was more handy with this type of thing. If I was gonna build a Valve head i would simply call it 'BASSTARD'. Would look great on any stage
23. These pedals really are fantastic bits of kit. Just the VLE/VPF filters alone are worth £75!
