Did a bit more tweaking (less gain, more fundamental) and made a short clip. There's a clip with guitars, and without, to let you hear the bass just with drums

GREAT!!!
Just what I'm looking for. I'm currently making a mid 50's style P-Bass in Shell Pink. I don't want to have the finger rest in Shell Zpink, sonic wondering whether to go for a plain maple one, or one in ebony?
Here's a pic of the style of bass with the pink rest in place

Or the perspex one
The more you play the more you will know what works best for you There's a seemingly endless amount of changes you can make to your playing and your equipment which will help you to be the player you were meant to be
I love playing my good old 4 banger. it's where it all began, and those 4 strings are always my reference no matter what I'm playing on... But nowadays I feel most at home on a 6. I always get dead confused when i play a 5 though for some strange reason!
There are some players who can play just as fluently on a skinny necked ibanez guitar, as they can on the tree trunk neck of a 5 string P bass! Then there are the guys who can make you weep playing intricate multi part pieces on a 7 string bass, but when you hand them anything other than their custom made 5k prized possesion they just shrug their shoulders.
Then there are those guys who ramble on about a load of crap while completely forgetting what point they were trying to make... Oh well
I am one of those who prefers to stick to same size speakers, so would recommend the 4x10 myself. Especially if there's one for £100!
Loads of guys love mixing 10's and 15's though! Only issue with that is you always need to use the full rig or your sound will completely change.
Markbass have just released the 'big bang' head which is smaller than the LM series, and the F1 is as wide as a LM2, but half the height! They have some crazily compact combos too but they don't come cheap. The Ashdown MiBass heads looked massive in comparison and a bit plasticky. Not actually heard them yet though! The Genz Benz stuff sounds awesome too but you have to try them first as they have their own sound. As far as lightweight stuff goes that's about as far as my experience stretches!
Meh, it's not a bad deal really if it's been setup really well. It is a pain in the arse buying a new instrument, and instead of getting it out of the box and having a wonderful time playing it, you have to mess around setting it up and ironing out the kinks. And if hes enjoying doing it and making a few quid more power to him
Nothing arrogant about that, you've got to get a tone you're happy with, you're one of the lucky ones!

I know it's arrogant but I love my tone at the end of this song http://soundcloud.com/kilta/the-optimist

I don't use the B string as much as one would expect from a metal player, using it more for effect, and even then I only usually go as low as a D (or C on my downtuned bass). Why not try playing songs you would normally play on a 4, but playing the low E on the B string? Means you're exploring and getting used to the feel and sound of that extra string without goin too far out of your comfort zone random noodling is good too
I'm with Ed! They retail for about £899 ( I paid that for mine), but I've seen them go between £450 and £600 on here. You could get a number of other cheaper options but that's a hell of a lot of bass cab for the money!

Abrasion. Metal on metal contact damages both the fret wire and the string outer wrap.
So... The core becomes stiffer and the outer wrap becomes less so?
That's interesting, I've always felt the strings had less stability the older they got, and were more prone to fretbuzz!
For a given tension, as a string degrades, the wrap/wrap and wrap/core adhesion breaks down and the intersectional voids deform, which results in the string becoming less compliant, that is feeling stiffer - not more, but less "flexible".
Generally strings get more elastic over time as they are being played for longer. You will also get slight differences in different brands too. If you like Ernie Ball strings a lot you could try going for a lighter gauge next time maybe? For now you'll need to tighten the truss rod a bit to get the neck and action to the right level again
Hulk Hogan actually does play bass, I heard that he wanted to play for Metallica before they it Rob!
On topic - I dislike all Trace stuff personally. If it works for you though that's awesome never noticed a sound difference between old and new stuff myself, so if it was me I would base my decision on the weight and go for the new stuff
