Doug Johns - why haven't I heard of him before now?!
fretmeister replied to Mokl's topic in General Discussion
I fancied having a Pedulla too - it's a nice shape. But they weigh far too much for me, alas. -
Worth a look - thank you. I've got a Tech21 preamp that I could use with that sort of a set up.
-
Yes.
-
I've heard you play - you're not clumsy! Just misguided!
-
I've only got one, but Sandberg I think. They just fit my hands so well. Tech21 kit as well. Just amazing stuff. Markbass amps - despite my complaints about the regular model EQ points I really like them. I sold mine a little while ago and I'm regretting it. Next year I'll have to have a look at the new Andrew Gouche head. That looks fantastic to me. Can't wait to try it.

I've been discharged from therapy now with home exercises. I'm told it probably won't get any straighter now but I can build some of the strength back at least. The PIP joint is stiffer / a bit arthritic now as a result of needing to be immobilised for so long to get the tendon to knit but it's also lot better than it was. As long as I can have 10 mins of warming up before playing properly it behaves itself most of the time. I'm very happy to be playing with fingers again. The fear of having to play with a plectrum URGH! Might as well give up and become a guitarist!!

If I had money I could have a blue screen as well and then use that to allow the green bass to show up as it really looks, but I don't care that much! It's just a bit of fun. I did one video wearing a bright green jumper. It was far brighter than advertised on t'internet and I never got round to sending it back. My chest and upper arms disappeared completely in the video! I might have to do something with that.

https://www.soundonsound.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=69236 This one? I'll have a good read.

I've even done it in "Black horse and the cherry tree" The looks I got.... I have decided to interpret them as lust. Pure unbridled lust.
-
So borrow an amp then?

Full blown Billy Sheehan tragic 1980s tapping fest. No matter what the genre of music. If you ask me, that’s what you get. As a tragic 80s throwback myself, I will do this without shame or embarrassment. Your emotional reaction to it is your problem. I’ve done this before!

@Happy Jack Thanks for the vids. I'm a bit torn - have a look for a PJB or a power supply for the Hotone (I have one of those already). I have to compete with quite a chunky brass section so I'm not sure what would be best, or if it's even worth trying.

@Cuzzie Finger recovery is finally getting there! The ramp really helps counter the slight droop and stops me hooking the string too much. Been nearly a year - with lots of therapy.

I've done a different tune in the EHB Short scale thread already but I thought I'd do another one, this time with just the bridge pickup for that sort of jazz bass bridge tone. As I'm playing in a big band and that's seems to be all I'm playing at the moment that's what you get - a big band arrangement of Stevie Wonder's "Don't you worry about a thing" All tones from a Line 6 Helix. Recorded live using OBS - none of that video then dub a track on top of it nonsense, I ain't got time for that! A green bass with a green screen gives some weird colour effects! Although now I'm wondering if I want the bass to be refinished in a chromaflair paint job!
-
That is very pretty! The X-series EMGs are wonderful pickups. I have that set in an Ibby. The P actually sounds like a P unlike some other actives I could mention.
-
Ooo - I will watch that later... maybe with the lava lamp on....
-
Alas I don't play the Tuba and at the moment the entire group of 20 ensembles doesn't have a tuba player! I'd really like a bari sax (I can play alto) but I haven't got that sort of money lying about for the odd outside show.
-
I don't even know what that is. Can you edumacate me please?
-
That Bose looks good - and I see it has a 90 day trial period! I'm now wondering if I can convince the band (run by an educational trust) to buy one for use by everybody as needed... Time for Mr Smooooooooooth to do his stuff...

Is there such a thing that is worth having? For outside village fete sort of things? Christmas carols with a bunch of trumpets? I'm guessing not but I thought I'd ask.

Great player. He's now bald and playing Sandberg basses. -
Thank you! I did wonder if the regular gauges of those flats would be too floppy at the shorter scale, and it's not like Ti Flats have other gauge options! I'm pleased to report they feel fine. A little less tension but not as much of a drop as I expected. If a player likes Ti flats then I think they'll still like them on this bass. I do play quite gently mind you.
