  1. I wish my fingers had envelope filters, synths, overdrives, and compressors in them. Then maybe my tone would be in my fingers. I can get by with a jazz and a good compressor - but that's just getting by. It's only a few of the sounds I want to make.
  2. Can't say weight without weighing it. The NYC instruments are almost always under 8lb, and some much lighter than that as they have chambered bodies. As for everything else - wood varies. Could have 2 that look identical but have them weigh 2 or 3 pounds different. Ask the seller to weight it. It's the only way to be sure.
  3. Is the Will Lee a Metro or a proper NYC one?
  4. I’ve seen several vids and articles saying it was Roto steels.
  5. I'll never sell my Roland. Even though I've got a stupid money Barefaced rig that Roland is staying. Wonderful little thing!
  6. He's the guy that bought all of Dave Mustaine's guitars when he was swapping brands. https://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/220746/hes-back-mr-essex-guitars/p1
  7. All strings do that of any construction and length It's unavoidable - the pluck on the string stretches it for a moment.
  8. Aye - I think those pickups are a terrible idea. Ok - so there's not many pickups that can cope with the span of a 6 string fan fret, but sticking with the dimension ratio of scaled up EMG / BARTs etc would make it far easier to find something.
  9. Every set of Roto flats I've ever had did that. Almost like I had to wait for the other 3 strings to get as dull as the E. So I swapped to Dunlop flats - they do short and medium scales too. Very happy with them.
  10. The ramp is lower than the pickups! I used some thick micropore tape under my ramp instead. Does the job now.
  11. I compared the TC with a mate's D'addario tiny thing this morning and the TC is so much better. Reacts better, no problem with the lower strings. I might actually get a 2nd one.
  12. I need to go through the trunk of things to see what I can sell off to raise the funds.
  13. When I was looking at these I completely missed that an expression pedal could be used. Now I have bad GAS again!
  14. I get all that. I had racks and racks of gear for many years (and the back pain to prove it) - so anything that gets me some compression and a touch of drive into 1 unit really makes me want that Ferrari!
  15. I've not paid much attention to Berg amps (I've had their cabs in the last) and in my hunt for amps with built in compression and other things I've only just noticed this really. Anyone using one? Ideally with a BF Super Twin? The demos look great, the drive circuit seems to be actually musical and the extra bits like the variable HPF and LPF are a great idea. I know they don't sell in the same volumes as other brands but I can't see any reports of failures. Anyone had any downsides? ta
  16. Don't be so hard on yourself! We all knew sod all when we started. Enjoy the journey!
  17. What type of background noise? Hiss? Low rumble? Picking up the local taxi firm? Something else?
  18. Either Dunlop Steel rounds or Dunlop Flats depending on what I'm doing.
  19. I'd love a stingray. I had a 5 but sold it as it was too heavy. I'd like a 4 string - ideally in natural with rosewood board like 'Nard Edwards. It will never happen, but I'd love a Vic Wooten signature Fodera - the aged version with the quilt top. I think I would struggle dropping £20,000 on a bass even if I did win the Euromillions jackpot and could afford to insure it and risk it by gigging it. But there's something about it I love. I've never even played one, it just calls to me.
  20. I'd stick with the Headrush.
  21. Thomann are big enough - no problems with them. But never overestimate the talent of the UK couriers at this end!
  22. We have a big thread on it already
  23. Arrived already! wow!
  24. I love MB amps but even if you swapped to one with better EQ like the Marcus Miller versions you won't get any grit from it. It's just not designed for that - not even if you punish the preamp with EMGS 1mm from the strings and an onboard booster. That being said, the little combo is a great thing to carry around and is great for EUB as well, so a pedal of your choice is the best bet. Something with a clean blend is always a good start so you can add in just what you want.
