1. I'm off too! Been stuck in this band for 8 years now. Got the worlds worst drummer. In fact the first time I played with him, I thought he was mucking about during the end of 'Dance the night away' and the singer who insists on playing guitar, doesnt know how to tune it, and just plugs in and plays without adjusting anything! full on on reverb and played very loud out of tune with frequent wrong chords. Why do I stay? Because its regular work, playing nearly every week and over new year too. But enough is enough, I,ve got an audition with a blues/Rock band next week!!
2. Anyone know of a good tech in West London? (Middlesex area) Somewhere with easy parking preferably, I dont want to lug a 27KG amp from Tesco carpark across a busy main road?? Cheers, Paul.
3. +1 for Nick Seymour, does he still play Warwicks?
4. I believe its a 1966 Fender Jazz, Macca used that a lot in 68 and 69. Theres a good book called THE COMPLETE BEATLES RECORDING SESSIONS which details all that sort of thing. Incidently, the piano part was played by Chris Thomas of the Sex Pistols and The Pretenders producer fame! 5. No one ever mentions the bass player from Blondie 'Nigel Harrison' who played on the original 70's hits. A very underated bassist. Not the original bassist though, that was Gary Valentine.
6.
If you caught OGWT 70's Gold edition on the TV the last weekend nearly every band on had a Fender bass in it, what you've been brought up with??
I noticed Roxy Musics' bassist was using a 54 P Bass
7. Yes, its a lot slower than it used to be. I like to click on the view new content to read new posts since I last logged in, and it sometimes takes 45 seconds to load
8. Enjoy your visit to London, we are gonna have some unseasonally high temperatures here in the next few days! up to 77 degrees on Wednesday apparently!
9. Bruce Foxtons sound on Monday from the Sound Affects album always gets me
10. I have 3 basses 2 of which I gig regularly. The Stingray I havent gigged since March or April, as I find the sound doesnt suit our music. Shame though its a nice bass. I maybe on the lookout to swap it for another P bass soon.
11. I need to raise the action on my VM Jazz, I can adjust the saddles with my little allen key but I dont have the truss rod tool. Is there anything I should watch out for? as I've never done this before
12. I might have a wander down there, Is there places to park?
13. I have been a bassist since 1983 and have nearly always played a Fender Precision, it has all the sounds I need. I have played other basses in 28 years, but when I pick up a Fender bass its just like putting on an old comfy pair of slippers
14. The Beatles - Come Together The Jam - Down In The Tube Station At Midnight Two entirely different basslines that work well with the drums.
15. Can you do it again? Love to hear it through the little speakers on my laptop.
16.
Looking good Ped. You are a fine model sir.
Looks like a cross between Damon Hill and George Harrison
17. Flea is just his name, I actually have fleas!
18. I,ll be back there soon, as Alex has offered me a nice PX deal on my Stingray
19. I think Bb has a very satisfying ring to it. If you play it on the A string 1st fret it gives a nice thump!
20.
Yes, bloke on the Speed Triple, although he's much smaller in real life.
I work with his wife, shes got more tats than him!!
21. I popped my P bass in last week for a minor setup and neck tweak. I called them this morning and spoke to Alex who told me it was ready. After trudging from Ealing to Camden in the rain, It transpired it wasnt ready at all!! So I wasnt happy. Martin however, dropped what he was doing and set to work straight away on it while I had a pint across the road, and it was done within the hour!. So I was not too bothered in the end.
22. Anybody fancy 2 P Bass domed knobs? How about [s]£8[/s] £6 posted? They are the ones on this bass.
23. Who ever faked the headstock logo went to an awful lot of trouble to get that nice shiney laquer finish. Quiet unlike my fake P bass.
