1.
My YOB bass - 1964 Precision
Oooh! thats my year of birth too Wish I was in as good nick as that bass
2. I have an audition tomorrow evening and I must say, I,m looking forward to it. Doing something very different from my regular work. Not that i,m arrogant, but I have learnt a lot in my years with my function band, and thank them for that, but, playing with such poor muscians (as I am) has made me want to seek something else. Having said that, I,m not quitting them yet, although the keyboardist is in the same boat as me.
3.
I've always liked the look of Warwicks. Apart from this one. Just... why? Is there even a reason?
Wheres the rest of it?
4. No I,m not telling them anything yet!! It'll probably take quiet a few rehearsals before we get to a good gigging standard (assuming I get the job) So what they dont know won't hurt 'em! Them only thing is, I feel like a flea trying to jump out of a pot with the lid on. All I need is for someone to take the lid off!!
5. I didnt want to play bass, I wanted to be... A Lumberjack!!
6.
Step 1, replace the drummer. Step 2, replace the singer. Job done.
Cant, its their band! They get all the work, so in fact i am a musical prositute!
7.
Crikey, how do you get regular gigs if the band is pants? Share your secret. And good luck.
God Knows! I guess it helps if your playing to the old folk at the British Legion who dont have their hearing aid on!! Seriously though, I look after the live sound through the PA and tune his guitar and then secretly turn it down while he,s not looking!!
8. I'm off! Been stuck in this band for 8 years now. Got the worlds worst drummer. In fact the first time I played with him, I thought he was mucking about during the end of 'Dance the night away' and the singer who doesnt know how to operate the PA, insists on playing rythm guitar, doesnt know how to tune it, and just plugs in and plays without adjusting anything! full on on reverb and played very loud out of tune with frequent wrong chords. Why do I stay? Because its regular work, playing nearly every week and over new year too. But enough is enough, I,ve got an audition with a blues/Rock band next week! Have to learn: All Right Now - Easy enough Freebird - Never listened to the bass on that one Black Betty - Interesting stuff going on there! Hey Joe - Easy! Let you know what happens next Friday!
9.
And yes I totally would!!
And how many of us have a daughter her age??
10. Kiddies pocket money music.
11. Nowhere?
12. Many folk believe that they became to popular for MM to justify keeping them on.
13. Get yerself a vox headphone amplifier, guaranteed piece and quiet.
14. I'm off too! Been stuck in this band for 8 years now. Got the worlds worst drummer. 15. Anyone know of a good tech in West London? (Middlesex area) Somewhere with easy parking preferably, I dont want to lug a 27KG amp from Tesco carpark across a busy main road?? Cheers, Paul.
16. +1 for Nick Seymour, does he still play Warwicks?
17. I believe its a 1966 Fender Jazz, Macca used that a lot in 68 and 69. Theres a good book called THE COMPLETE BEATLES RECORDING SESSIONS which details all that sort of thing. Incidently, the piano part was played by Chris Thomas of the Sex Pistols and The Pretenders producer fame! 18. No one ever mentions the bass player from Blondie 'Nigel Harrison' who played on the original 70's hits. A very underated bassist. Not the original bassist though, that was Gary Valentine.
19.
If you caught OGWT 70's Gold edition on the TV the last weekend nearly every band on had a Fender bass in it, what you've been brought up with??
I noticed Roxy Musics' bassist was using a 54 P Bass
20. Yes, its a lot slower than it used to be. I like to click on the view new content to read new posts since I last logged in, and it sometimes takes 45 seconds to load
21. Enjoy your visit to London, we are gonna have some unseasonally high temperatures here in the next few days! up to 77 degrees on Wednesday apparently!
22. Bruce Foxtons sound on Monday from the Sound Affects album always gets me
23. I have 3 basses 2 of which I gig regularly. The Stingray I havent gigged since March or April, as I find the sound doesnt suit our music. Shame though its a nice bass. I maybe on the lookout to swap it for another P bass soon.
