1.
A fairly well known rock pub in Northampton that has booked us twice and on both occasions have done absolutely nothing to promote us, despite us sending in posters, creating Facebook events, contacting local press etc. The last time we played there the landlord said we were too loud (we weren't - we were balanced against our un-mic'd drummer) and spent the whole night walking around with his fingers in his ears, grinning at us. He thought he was being funny. Everyone else, including his own staff, thought he was a rude, unprofessional ****. I will not play there again.
I wonder if this is the same place someone got stabbed outside of when I last played there?
2. I saw a covers band years ago who played a couple of System of a Down (who tune CGCF) songs on a 5-string with a capo on the first fret. Also, I believe Mark Hoppus (blink 182) plays one song live with a capo on the third fret as the studio version is played on an upright tuned to G.
3. I know this can be done but unfortunately I can't tell you how. All I know is I have a friend in New York who played drums in a band from Norway for a while and he told me they rehearsed via Skype without issue. Maybe internet speeds are faster in NYC and Norway than they are here?
4.
I love records, but have given up on RSD. Every day should be Record Shop/Store Day: http://thequietus.com/articles/19946-record-store-day-2016-shops-bad-reissues-bleugh
I agree with this entirely.
5.
Not so interesting when you see the price - I'd go for Schaller. G.
Yeah, fair enough. I did t even look at that!
6. I have Dean Markley Nikki Sixx signature strings on all of my basses. I like the Dean Markley SS rounds and the gauge I like just happen to be branded with Nikki Sixx on the front.
7. This just popped up in my Instagram feed. http://thetonebar.co.uk/2017/03/13/toneup-new-3d-adjustable-barrel-saddle-bass-bridge/ Has anyone tried these? I know it's all sakes patter but it looks interesting.
8.
For me it boils down to one key point that a lot of bands/band members forget - what you can hear on stage doesn't matter beyond hitting queues and staying in tune. So let the soundman get on with mixing it out front and stop wasting everybody's time fannying about over what it sounds like on stage
This is true and I often tell myself this. However I also enjoy playing the bass and the way my bass sounds. I gave up caring what it sounded like FOH a long time ago but I still want it to sound good to me. That said I have played gigs with no back line and, whilst it's different, it's fine. If we had an IEM setup then I may do this more often.
9. I feel you. My band went through 7 in 6 years - three of those were our original drummer! Now the singer and I are starting a new band and we feel like we've already been through all of the drummers we know. Finding a good drummer is tough!
10.
Given the stories about how pernickety Robert Godfrey could be about playing things right, I'm surprised you escaped with your life!!
I am unaware of this stories but I can totally believe them. A couple of years ago my band recorded at the studio he owns whilst The Enid were rehearsing for a tour in the upstairs studio. They spent two weeks soundchecking drums. We finished our album before they played a single note on any other instrument. He's also a very very strange man.
11.
One of the best I've seen is a company called Monster Screen Prints. Could be worth a look, not sure on pricing etc but a mate of mine uses them regularly
I'd second that. My band have been using them for years. Decent prices and great quality.
12. Either something like this http://youtu.be/rzJ21OpFnZ0 Or something like this http://youtu.be/8C8CWX2KfMc Depends what day it is.
13. At the minute I have two amps: Fender Super Bassman 300 Fender Rumble 500 head Plus one Fender 410 Neo cab. Aside from those I still have a Peavey practice amp that I bought when I started playing. There's also an Orange Bass Terror 500 and an Ashdown 2x12 in the house but they belong to Mrs Strange.
14. Does 1/64" (or roughly 0.39mm) really make that big of a difference? This is a genuine question, by the way, there is no sarcasm intended. I'm just not sure I'd be able to tell with that tiny change but then I've never measured or specifically set my action.
15. Are you sure that was a few weeks ago?! I haven't seen Rotosounds at £12 a set for 15+ years!
16. 1981 Vox Custom bass Peavey TNT 115 That's it.

18.
And carrying a flight-cased SVT and flight-cased 810 is something that should be avoided. Trust me.
I second this.
19. I sold an early '80s Vox Custom on here a while back. Part of me kind of regrets selling it but only because it was my first bass and I learned to play on it. However I hadn't touched it for over a decade and didn't really like the way it played so the other part of me is happy knowing it went somewhere that it was appreciated.
20. A PMT opened in Nottingham in October or November and an independent shop called Nottingham City Guitars opened a couple of years ago too.
21. Did you try calling them? They're generally pretty good over the phone. The only odd thing they do is if you order over the phone you can only speak to the person that took your order about returns. Which isn't helpful if it's their day off or they're on holiday.
22. The Holy Bible. Both the Manic Street Preachers album and the book.
23. He is indeed a great player. My only criticism is that I personally think he overplays on the first Rancid album. I assume this was trying to compensate for the fact that they were a 3-piece on that record and Tim isn't a particularly great guitarist. Since then, though, he plays a lot more reserved when he needs to.
You clearly like good bsss players in Punk, if you haven't already, check out A Wilhelm Scream. Bryan's gotta be the most progressive punk bassist right now.
I'd also add Chris #2 from Anti-Flag alongside this.
