1. Wow, "built-in electricity"....that must be worth something, never mind the "much more" !
2. I'd be tempted by a small multi-fix. I've just out a Zoom B3 into my board and it works very well. Zoom do that single pedal-sized one...
3.
Today a kid came up to me and asked me a bunch of questions, but he finished off with: "why don't you get yourself a new bass?"
But seeing as you think it's 'nicely aged', it seems like you and the lad were in agreement that your bass looks old.
4. Used to post on Harmony Central, then Ebassist and now here. I didn't post on here for about 3 months a while back, I don't think people 'leave' as much as never come back. All subject forums go round in circles. IME that's just the way it is.
5. Yes, as much as I can. I just beaver my way from artist to artist, following connections as I fancy. I don't try and be comprehensive, just interested.
6. It might make the neck feel a bit ollie No ? I'll get me coat.
7.
Not forgetting if using class d you need at least 4 times the power of a traditional amp valve, mosfet etc to get the "real" volume and "heft". Haha I'm joking of course or am I???
Is it valve or solid-state humour ? Solid-state humour's just not as funny....
8. Excellent idea. Put me down for London. General soldering, wiring, basic set-up. General electronics too, so if that pedal needs a look, I may be able to help.
9.
Gear excess in the backline is the #1 complaint of every soundman I've ever talked with, from those in 100 seat clubs to those in 20,000 seat stadiums.
Yep, heard the same thing many times myself. "What did you bring that for ?"
10.
Times change, simple as that. Where are all the dance halls of the 30s/40s?
Exactly, fashions change and tastes moves on, which is good or else we'd all still be going to dance halls !
11. Hmmm. EHX are great for effects that shout 'Hey I'm an effect...whooooo whoooo whoooo !!!" Not sure if that's so good for comps. I had a Soul Preacher for a bit....superb for a ubersquished sound, but not for anything halfhearted. It sucked.
12. That's lovely. GLWTS.
13.
Very true - it's nice to get paid occasionally as well...
I don't believe the two are mutually exclusive, few things are.
14.
I like your world
Me too. It's nice to be nice.
15.
I'd get absolutely no pleasure from playing this now, knowing that a 13y/o boy has been criminalised by his own father for making a simple mistake; the shop is paying for a courier to pick it up and giving me a full refund so they will be left out of pocket over all this. It's just one of those bad situations that will only get worse the longer it drags on and frankly some battles just aren't worth fighting.
Good for you, well played that man. /Stands, Applauds/
16. How you going to tune it ? Aaaaah.....use the fourth.
17.
The info I've been given is the shop bought it in good faith from a young lad and his mum. The estranged father / husband is now claiming it is his bass and he only lent it to his son and wants it back. I have some issues with this: The shop must have had it for some time before trying to move it on eBay, then the auction was a 7 day auction so there was plenty of time to reclaim it from the shop; also I can't shake the feeling they want it back as they've had a better offer elsewhere... It was a pretty good bargain.
If that's the case with the estranged father then I'd deffo be taking the refund - I'd not want to profit from a situation like that, or get involved for that matter. As for the shop wanting it back, welll....you've no idea how it's all played out, so guessing at a chain of events that justifies keeping the bass seems a bit....well YMMV.
18.
Me thinks you need more details. If it's a used bass, there could possibly be a problem of the person who traded it in wasn't the rightful owner. Stolen perhaps? "Handling Stolen goods" is a criminal offence.
Very much so - ask for more details. Mind you, if it turns out to be stolen or something similar then I'd be doing the decent thing, regardless of how nice it is.
19. Seems a strange place for a USB and XLR, but looks neat.
20.
All I've done to get in a band is learn the material as close as possible to the recording, no one has a crystal ball to know what 'slant' the other members of the band will be taking. Even for the originals band I've just joined, where the guys said I was the only bass player to have even attempted to learn the songs. Do your homework.
This is my approach - when I've auditioned and been given material to learn I learn it the way it's presented to me. If it needs changing later on then fair enough, but I'd regard learning it to be part of the audition. Mind you, like Marvin, the number of auditions I've turned up to and the band are surprised I know the tunes astounds me.
21. Wow, was that almost 6 weeks ago ? Oh well, I have been finishing the kitchen ! Got to grips with the body today and gave it a good sand from 180 down to 320, lovely afternoon's work with the shed door open and a robin for company, then I wiped it down and tomorrow will see another 320 in a different light and a good onceover. Feels great already and the sanding's brought out the grain really nicely.
22. Cool stuff.
23. Have you talked to the rest of the band yet ?
24. I wonder how CyberBass got on at his audition ?
25.
This has actual sections, kind of like A and B etc in a jazz score. It was done for the Lonfon Jazz Composers orchestra.
I enjoyed that. The graphic scores remind me of the Cornelius Cardew scores I've seen.
