I built a clone of a clone last nigt - I used Fuzz Dog's schematic to build an Empathy/EM Drive. I used a couple of LEDs (I have hundreds of coloured LEDs left over from my wedding) for clipping. Not bad, deffo a boost-light drive for guitar, but could do with some more umph, so I ran an LPB-1 in front of it, which messed it up nicely, but quite muffled. I then tried my home-built Alembic Stratoblaster clone and whoo - lots more top end, niiiice. So I think a Stratoblaster -> EM Drive build coming up. I think a tone control might be useful. One thought - how does one increase the gain of a JFET boost like the Stratoblaster ?

Wow, "built-in electricity"....that must be worth something, never mind the "much more" !

I'd be tempted by a small multi-fix. I've just out a Zoom B3 into my board and it works very well. Zoom do that single pedal-sized one...

Hmmm. EHX are great for effects that shout 'Hey I'm an effect...whooooo whoooo whoooo !!!" Not sure if that's so good for comps. I had a Soul Preacher for a bit....superb for a ubersquished sound, but not for anything halfhearted. It sucked.

As for the shop wanting it back, welll....you've no idea how it's all played out, so guessing at a chain of events that justifies keeping the bass seems a bit....well YMMV.

[/quote] This is my approach - when I've auditioned and been given material to learn I learn it the way it's presented to me. If it needs changing later on then fair enough, but I'd regard learning it to be part of the audition. Mind you, like Marvin, the number of auditions I've turned up to and the band are [i]surprised[/i] I know the tunes astounds me.

Wow, was that almost 6 weeks ago ? Oh well, I have been finishing the kitchen ! Got to grips with the body today and gave it a good sand from 180 down to 320, lovely afternoon's work with the shed door open and a robin for company, then I wiped it down and tomorrow will see another 320 in a different light and a good onceover. Feels great already and the sanding's brought out the grain really nicely.

Have you talked to the rest of the band yet ?

I wonder how CyberBass got on at his audition ?
