I know I'm gonna get slammed for this. He just did a solo live number which comprised strumming an amped guitar real hard and fast and shouting....beats me. Reckon my age has finally caught up with me....or has it? McCartneys son, I would never have guessed.
I'm surprised he'd try a career in music...think you'd avoid it like the plague.

NBD, NPuD Conundrum - Pickup placement kind of question
ahpook replied to Grangur's topic in Repairs and Technical
I guess the question here is can I put 2 pups in there close together without any problems? My guess is its what they do in guitars, so why not a bass?
As the fields of the two pairs of the split coil will be in an opposite sense to each other you will theoretically get a slight reinforcement or cancellation of the field where the split coil and the single coil sit closest to each other.... Will it be enough to notice ? I doubt it, but I think I'd be twisting rather then soldering the first time I wired it up -
NBD, NPuD Conundrum - Pickup placement kind of question
ahpook replied to Grangur's topic in Repairs and Technical
You have a pickup that doesn't fit any of you basses ? Buy a new bass. Next ! Seriously tho, the packaging and the whole presentation is very nice, but it's a pitch so I'd not feel too bad about returning it. -
Ouch - get well soon !
Carol Kaye for sure, seeing as she shaped a lot of it during her long career. Didn't she invent the bass guitar???
No that was James Jamerson, Carol Kaye just says she did. -
That's a Dark Star re-issue pickup (neck position) with new wiring to the new jack socket and to the volume pot too. I couldn't replace the volume pot because the size is unusual.
HJ, I don't know what to say.... I think I'll just stand up and applaud for a while. That is awesome.

Sounds like a good choice ! Pictures are of course are politely insisted upon
There are no right and wrong answers here. The OP isn't happy with dong something which some people are delighted doing. That doesn't make any of it bad. OP - RE: playing in originals band/writing own songs - better to try and fail than not try at all IMO.
Absolutely... Get your ideas together, play them to some prospective bandmembers, when you have a quorum go to suitable place and work on the music. There.....a band ! It may work, it may not. It will most likely work for a bit then stop, so try and do a few gigs before it stops. You will meet some new people and most likely learn a lot of stuff (some of it to do with music). Repeat.
Truly awful company name though
Good for finding through a search engine
Sometimes I feel like it'd be a good idea to ditch covers and work on original stuff but I dunno I just worry that my ideas would get lost in translation once other people get involved so I don't bother trying to make anything of it.
Well, you certainly won't know until you try...so work on the original stuff. Get the band together and see if you like what happens.

A few places have them for around the £30 mark. For the record Axerus are great....I've used them many times.

Help, my Hartke HA3500 is a very sick lady.
Yep I spent all day yesterday, carefully cleaning all the jacks and pots with an airline and switch cleaner, I checked all the internal leads and connections then started poking around with a multi meter, trouble is I have no idea (apart from resistors) of what the values are meant to be Inside looks good, Not much dust and grime, no bulging caps, no signs of overheating etc. I'm sure I have an issue like a dry or loose cap etc.... its just trying to locate the thing.
My apologies for the egg-sucking tutorial ! Intermittent faults are the very devil to tie down, especially if there no clues like obviously dead components. Be nice to be able to check the boards from below, look for any dodgy traces...that might be the next step... See what our very own Phil Starr recommends as he knows the unit. -
On his Wiki he uses the word 'dissolvement'... I'd fire him for that alone!
Two minds......Fixed.

Have you been at all the controls and sockets with some switch cleaner ? Effects loops need a good clean, even if you never used as they're wired to interrupt the signal path. I'd get the top off again and give it a good slow look over, check all connections, ribbon wires and the the like. Then get in with the freeze ray -
Speaking as an ex-alcoholic and in another life a really quite terrible person, I know that a trip abroad will be seen by your fiddler as a fantastic excuse to go on a days-long bender. Away from the UK and away from any kind of restraint he will go for it, big time. I would seriously advise leaving him at home, regardless of how inconvenient it may be. You'll get a much better outcome in the long run. If you don't sack him now, you'll sack him after the Italy debacle. I'd sack him now and do yourself and everyone else a favour.
Discreet's got a very good point - I know how the alcoholic me would have looked at it. He needs help and making allowances isn't going to help you, the band or him.
-
Oh dear. It sounds like the chap has a problem, and your band has one too. I think you need to have a serious talk with your bandmates about him. Gigs or no, if you turn up to the big gig and he's a mess then you'll likely not get booked again, so keeping him for the gig in Italy may turn round to bite you in the long run. If the band decides to soldier on then it's about how you feel about playing with him. He does need to be told that his drinking isn't right tho - he needs to be urged to get some help about it.
It's my own design which I've been refining for a few years now in LTspice, using somewhat "uptown" opamps. I do circuit board layouts in KiCad, which is open source freeware. Bass and mids are active, then comes the one band fully parametric EQ, followed by the passive treble stack, EFX/Aux send/return, variable high pass filter (2nd order fixed plus 2nd order variable), and a final gain stage/line driver. The power amp has a Jensen input transformer added at the input as well. Signal/noise measures at better than 100dB and THD at around .001%.
Very impressive indeed. Your attention to detail is second-to-none, a job very well done - I like the transformer coupling.

Looks fantastic - what kind of preamp design are you using ?
