1. Nice to know it's still going strong. Is it pickup only ?
2. I don't know...maybe I've still not realised.
3.
yes perhaps a toned down h r giger aliens inspired design is what i thought at first glance but that maybe more down to the colour
If it had no visible neck join it would look....grown.
4. Very space-age, I like that.
5. I use a plectrum...never quite got on with the way a pick sounds
6. If you can live with the neck dive then they're amazing. I can, cos they're amazing. Did I mention the amazing bit ?
7.
You can buy something like a Zoom handheld recorder to ‘just record stuff’ like you might once have done with a tape deck or dictaphone. You can buy an audio interface for connecting your bass to a computer and record/compose using any number of softwares. My suggested Step 1 would be to read the Beginner's Guide to Home Recording at the top of this forum. It "does exactly what is says on the tin", so to speak. And if you get stuck, just ask!
Top answer
8. That would go so well with my 1986 62 reissue....
9. That's a stunning piece of wood. Looking forward to seeing the results
10.
I'd leave it alone.
Me too, but if thine eye offends ye, use felt-tip pen.
11. Hope you get an appointment soon.
12.
Hi ahpook, I teach in west London (Chiswick) and correcting playing posture is one of the first things I cover with my students. Feel free to PM me to see if there is any help I can give you. http://basschat.co.u...in-west-london/
When I get a few things sorted I'll drop you a PM, thanks
13.
You'd be better off going to an Alexander Technique practitioner for this than a bass teacher IMO.
And in that, you and Mrs. Pook are in accord ! I thought it'd be better starting with a bass teacher, but fair enough, maybe that's a better starting place. Thanks
14. OK, thanks for the recommendations, I'll check out their details online.
15. I'd say learn to make your own, it's easy and I have cables I made 10 or 12 years ago going fine. It's fun and solder smells..hmmmmm. I have a few of OBBM's cables as well and they're great too !
16. Maybe the yellow staples are used as they're easier to see ? Anyway, my solution to the logo ? Take it off. Naomi Klein would be proud of you
17. Just got back from the doctors, a bit of a follow up on a appointment a month or so ago. Anyhoo - most likely DO have a ganglion in my right wrist and an MRI is being arranged. However, this has made me realise that I have odd aches and pains in both my wrists that might be helped by improving my posture when playing, so a trip to a bass tutor who's knowledgeable about such things could be in order. Anyone know a good bass tutor in North London who's a whizz on posture and related problems ?
18. I could do, yes....what's accepted wisdom ? Just DI-ed ?
19. Ordered these from Mike at Gemini on the 11th, and they popped through my door today. Bit of back story - I was pimping a Squier CV Telecaster guitar for a very good friend of mine for his 40th birthday a few years back, and after talking to Mike at Gemini about mini-Humbuckers went for a pair of 'Vampire Queens' which my friend was blown away by and do sound superb. Mike was a great chap to deal with so I saw no reason to go elsewhere when I fancied treating my 86 MIJ Jazz bass to some new pickups for its 30th birthday. I'm replacing a set of SD...um....I forget which sort, but I know that put them in there in ~'98, and they're not Quarter-Pounders. At ~14K I guess they're 'Hot Jazzes'. They've always been a bit on the dark side, so the Dawn Lightnings at 8.4/9.6K looked a good choice - I've a set of Wizard 84's in another bass they're about the same IIRC,. Anhoo - wired them in and I'm very pleased. A lot clearer than the SD with a much more detailed botton end. Thicker overall than a stock MIJ Geddy Lee tho, but that could be the maple board I suppose. Took a quick pic of them after I'd unpacked them - nice presentation, doesn't change the tone, but it's a classy touch
20. Maybe you've got some Byrds nesting inside.... Sorry Does it sound like something loose ? Can you (and a friend, maybe) shake it and see ?
21.
As a rule, I think national anthems shouldn't be 'creatively interpreted'
Almost universally, I agree.... Almost....the first 1.24 of this are the exception. But I'm not sure for what reason
22. It's less interesting than a 'traditional' rendition with trumpets and whatnot, so.... FAIL.
23.
Storm troopers of death easy listening / mood music
Perfect, shall I light the scented candles ?
