1. I've decided to start offering my old strings up for recycling, so for the price of a few quid into the Basschat coffers I'll pop them into almost-certainly used padded envelope sealed with too much cheap duct tape and post them off to you. I really don't like throwing things away that could still be of use, so this appeases my conscience and helps BC at the same time. Up for grabs in round one are [s]2 x Fender 45-100 Nickel[/s] [s]1 x Status 40-100 Standard Roundwound.[/s] I'm not going to police the donations as I know we're all honest gentlefolk, but £3 per set sounds like a good starting point to me. I change strings fairly often so these should all have plenty of zing in them. They're been trimmed, but not drastically, to jazz bass length (I'd say tuning head +6")
 2.
Oddly yesterday I lost my valves I put them down while working on the amp then they had gone. Turns out they were in the couch. Good thing no one sat down.
It's a nightmare getting a seat on the tube...
 3. I had a plastic Watford Valves valve box with all my assorted transistors in it and it's gone. Spare room's been turned upside down (and hoovered...thought I might as well)....nothing I had a brace of BJTs and FETs in there, as well as some germaniums too....acouple of mystery ones salvaged from CFT I was going to make a fuzz out of... I fear the box fell in the bin and got emptied last week.... I feel..........lost.
 4.
I,m sure they could have used a session bassist rather than a one take 'That'll do' bass part.
It's their song - in all fairness it is up to them to decide what bassline goes on it !
 5. Bootsy's a whole head of fun. (i meant to type 'heap' but I'm gonna leave it as it is)
 6.
Neck 100% Bridge 0% Tone 100%
Start here and roll off the tone if I'm feeling sek-say
 7.
I think we need to be able to define 'heft' first of all.
I thought it was a joke....
 8. Arrrgh, if this had a jazz nut width I'd be sorely tempted.
 9.
A bass range needs to happen
A semi or two maybe ? Schweet
 10.
It's also really changed my bass playing too - I'm standing back a lot more and being guided by the music as to what to play and how to play it. Aiming for something a bit different rather than just learning stuff and repeating it. Sometimes the results are really sparse bass lines, where before I might have been tempted to add in too much.
Some of the most enjoyable times I spend with my bass are doing just this - starting off with the bare bones of the tune that the band's working on and trying to come up with just the right part for it.
 11.
Not gonna lie, haven't tested it on bass. It's got good low end either way. I could do a demo for you later today if you wanted.
Just an idea of any low-end loss would be good, ta
 12. Any more info about the Grillbox ? Bass-friendly ?
 13.
Well that leaves the field wide open, doesn't it? Which Tom? Well?
The chap in the photo
 14. I was in there on Monday, Tom's a lovely chap. Such a change from the atmosphere in some of the other shops that used to be there.
 15.
I don't know of course but I'd bet a significant number of them don't have a blast because there are very few brilliant players aged 18-21 with own transport, etc. prepared to follow up on these "awesome opportunities".
They're young ! They're starting a band ! It's exciting ! Of course they'll have a blast, if they do nothing more than make a racket in someone's garage they'll have a ball.
 16. I know you're impressed, but don't go putting them on a pedestal or anything.
 17. Awesome, more power to them, I hope they have a blast. Being young should be all about having masses of enthusiasm and if some of it is misguided then who cares ?
 18.
Yep. Don't let the strings twist when you're putting them on.
Another one here.
 19.
Which one is best for metals..?
/applauds/
 20.
is it an established working band doing 4 hours gigs? if not, it is probably going to fold.... the majority of bands do
Meow
 21. Cool, hope it sorts it
 22. Sounds like you're grounding some of the wiring - can you pop a strip of paper or card between the pots and the bottom of the control cavity, see if that stops any odd contacts ? I'd check to see that nothing touches the sides of the cavity as well. HtH
 23.
Rather than push on with my new-band enthusiasm, I'm going to back off and see how things develop...
Sir, you are a gentleman...
 24. Firstly - tidy job there....all very neat and pro-style ! Adding bass by increasing the coupling caps can, in my experience, take you down a very mushy route - often as not I've found the tone changes a lot when you allow more bass. YMMV of course - some add component sockets to you can try different coupling caps to see which sounds best. Polarity inversion can be performed with a single transistor stage wired as an inverting buffer (I'd try an Alembic Stratoblaster as a good simple design - I'm pretty certain it inverts...someone will be me straight if not) HtH Edit: One thing I've been tempted to try instead of a blend, is to ape the Boss LS-2 and rather than blending, having two volumes for the clean and effected. I've had variable results with blend circuits before.
