1.
I like my Tokai very much - one of the best Les Pauls I've played anywhere at any price.
Ditto. I had an '80s Love Rock that was fantastic. It's with a guitarist mate now, who much prefers it to his Gibson.
2. Yup..Coolcat Transparent Overdrive, I believe.
3. And I'm not certain, but I think he's already sold the S12... If not...interested in a trade with my Compact?
4.
The BassRelay has reached Cambourne....
Bugger! Just down the road, but my band's not gigging at the moment
5. It's ages since I used it, but IIRC you needed to install the LAME MP3 encoder separately to enable Audacity to do this.
6. You could reduce the weight of the combo by removing the head and putting it in a 2U sleeve thingy. Perhaps.
7. Dunno how Barefaced do it, but I refinished a tatty old guitar combo (tolex ripped/missing) with Tufcab and a roller. The end result was very similar.
8.
Could be that it needs 'fine tuning' to match different cab setups though.
Surely not ?
9.
I had an Ashdown combo that was rated 575W into 4ohm, 350W into 8ohm, but the inbuilt speaker was rated at 300W RMS. Never had a problem.
Likewise, for several years I used a 15' Acoustic cab - rated 125W IIRC - with various amps capable of much more. Never had a problem - just use your ears, and turn stuff down if it sounds bad.
10.
Looking used is always good though.
That's me sorted then...
11. When does it need collecting? I'm going to Norwich tomorrow - sat 12th.
12. Setup - wassat ? I don't even need to tune mine, they did it for me in the shop when I bought it!
13. Hmmm...you're a very bad man Tom !
14. Is the body one piece? (on my 'phone, and my eyes aim't whet they woz...)
15.
I'm not particularly appreciating being (mis)quoted to attack Blue Aran. As I said at the start of the thread the Kappalite 3015 is a great driver for bass guitar but as with all drivers it needs to be use appropriately. Put it in too high-tuned a box or too low-tuned and/or large a box and it will not perform as well nor be as robust because its excursion-limited power handling will drop well below its thermal power handling.
Apologies if I've misunderstood, but wasn't this mentioned in the original discussion (a year or so ago, in the thread mention above by the OP) as a possible consequence if the driver was fitted in the Warwick cab ?
16. If the punters are OK with it, and you get what you want/need from it, does it really matter what anybody else thinks?
17.
The whole technique thing is getting tired now. Unless you are playing technical music for a living, no one cares anyway.
I disagree, quite strongly, but each to his own. I returned to playing bass about 4 years ago, after a break of some 8 years. I thought I was doing OK, until i was forced to offload my gear from the '80s in favour of some modern lightweight cabs. These are in a different league in terms of clarity & transparency, and it was quickly apparent that my technique and playing was a lot more sloppy than I thought. I think I'm a far better player now as a result.
18. Mmm...I thought this was a special edition in the 'standard' range, so in between the Affinity & VM ?
19. Have you tried removing the speaker, rotating it 90 degrees and screwing it back in?
