    I tend to record 2 acts at once; a clean DI to channel 1 and another through the pedalboard and Ampeg pre. From there I can use an amp sim or reamp through a big amp in the studio.

    Building my own compressor so I’m letting this go up for sale. Aphex Punch Factory 1404 compressor that doubles as a really useful DI (pre/post compression, ground lift switch) and runs on 9v battery, standard 9v adaptor or phantom power. Massive piece of Velcro underneath as it’s been on my board for years.

    Preamp pedal into the FX return of their amp is the easiest way, bypasses the tone shaping part of the amp.

    I love that they growl when I need them too and can take a bit of a beating. Amp-wise I love the valvey goodness and massive low end it delivers, as well as a nice crispy top end.

    I’ve been playing about with a Chunk Systems Agent 00Funk recently and I really like it; nice and chewy and really versatile too.

    Secret option C is Sibelius First; a scaled down version of Sibelius at a significantly reduced price. Obviously it doesn’t have all the whistles and bells of the full version but is still a really useful piece of software.
