  1. Never seen an Alembic that I liked the look of. I love Jazz basses though, and that’s pretty much it. Also if it’s got more knobs and/or switches than strings then I’m not interested, and we’re back to Alembic... 😉
  2. Nice! I'd LOVE one of these but a bit out of my budget.

    Sold

Very close to a Sansamp Bass Driver/Behringer BDI21 except smaller footprint (9cm x 8xm). All metal casing and sounds identical to the 2 above units. Definitely a step up from the Behringer in terms of build quality. Some pen marks on the top to indicate settings, but other than that it's in perfect condition. Price includes P&P to mainland UK. Photos to follow, but here's a very comprehensive review from Premier Guitar for now: Sold
  4. That's a terrible cast. Also, what's with the "I use it as art" comment in the description? Should do OK as a toilet seat warmer though.
  5. SOLD
  6. She sort of adopted it to be honest.
  7. Spare room / study / cat’s bedroom.
  8. Certainly. Upon closer inspection it's got 2n3106 Germanium transistors instead of the 'vanilla' 2n5088s and a Burr Brown OPA2136 opamp instead of the standard JRC4558 on the EQ section to give increased sound quality. Here's the back of the board:

  10. None, I think the original schematic called for a 47nf cap into the feedback loop (overdrive section), but I upped this to 470 to drop the frequency of the HPF into the filth section, so it delivers full range overdrive instead of chopping off the bottom end. The input cap has been increased too, for the same reason. The EQ section has also been 'fettled' to increase the low end (this comes after the overdrive section)
  11. Thinning out the herd, so offering up my home made Xotic BB Bass preamp clone. It's had a few mods (enhanced low end and switchable clipping diodes - Silicon or Germanium) and is a great sounding pre. Capable of low gain 'grit' right up to silly amounts of filth with a 2 band Baxandall EQ. True bypass, 9v DC adaptor power only with velcro on the back. Price includes P&P to mainland UK.
  12. Just a two word review...
  13. I thought it was a Carl Thompson initially, but it’s actually an Abe Rivera, and was apparently the first bass they (he) made.
  14. ‘S got extra ‘road wearage’ innit?!

    DIY Effects

Took a Behringer VP1 apart today to transplant it in another box with better quality sockets and switch. Minutes of fun!
  16. Try a DLS RotoSIM - gets very close.
  17. Leslie cab - you can hear it spinning before the guitar comes in. Sounds like JPJ is just overdriving the amp as well.
  18. Basses that aren’t any good for metal. 😉
  19. Rickenbacker. Tried one once and it was just dreadful to play. In its defence it sounded awesome!
  20. My tentative entry; Ampeg Lite!
  21. Oof!! 😍
  22. John East without a doubt. Infinitely flexible and user friendly too.
