1. I traded mine earlier this year with a value of £450 so concur with the above evaluations. ... although mine had an odd serial and came direct from Japan so was presumed to be a non-export model and may have achieved more if I'd asked for it.
2.
You've let yourself go a bit since you changed your avatar...
I may have gained a couple of pounds.
3.
Not totally true as the wire can act as an ariel and conduct noise into the screened cavity! But in practical terms your probably right, after all this wire goes to the bridge and hence to the strings, which act like ariels anyway and I can't think how we'd screen those! However, solder this wire to the copper screening close to where it enters the control cavity, dont take it to the jack socket earth, or the back of a pot etc, as any of this wire inside the cavity has the potential to re-radiate what it has picked up from the strings, which can then get into the signal path.
I know. You have to draw the line somewhere.
4.
What about the drilled hole for the ground wire that attaches to the underside of the bridge....? Do i simply just carefully apply the foil around this hole?
There is no need as it already is a ground wire and carries no actual signal.
5. Aw shame. I hope it went to someone that can do it justice. I had some great ideas for it.... provided the neck was salvageable.
6. That reply ^ was for Shep btw.
7. Good point but if your circuit only requires a trigger then a latching switch can only supply that every second hit. It may be that while in the "half on" position that simply earthing it is a sufficient trigger hence the change of state by touching. I might be totally wrong though - I'm in the middle of a bad migraine and am finding it hard to think clearly (it took me 4 attempts to write the word "that" a minute ago) but it seemed to make sense to me during a moment of clarity.
8. You wanted a non latching switch and they've fitted a latching one. Take it back and kick some ass.
9. Are you replacing the existing ones because they aren't gold or are you looking for something altogether new?
10. Which model is it please?
11. Basically you have to make sure that every bit of copper is earthed. You do this by connecting it to anything else that is metal. (which in theory is already earthed). It would be impractical to solder to your p/g (plus it would melt) so you can leave an overhang out the top of the cavity and make sure that the copper on the underside of you p/g touches it. Simples.
12. You should email the guy in the ebay link to see if he can source you one. The link to the Artec site isn't going to the pre you are thinking of but I presume it is the same one I got (never got around to using it and sold it on here) which actually came directly from the far east - Singapore I think - which was the only place you could get them at the time.
13. Is that a DFA switch? Amazing job on the headstock btw.
14. Matt came round the other day with his brand new pickguard for a fitting... we couldn't resist a wee glimpse into the future. He was scared at the prospect of taking the protective film off the p/g just now so it looks a bit greyer here than it will come the grand unveiling. The fretboard looks a bit ropey in the pic too because something in it reacted with the masking tape glue and it went all sticky - never seen that happen before. Presumably it's previous owner/abuser has applied some sort of alcohol based conditioning/cleaning product to the fretboard which has seeped out (or gassed off) and melted the glue. Just another job to rack up.
15.
Yeah, they were. Im really surprised there wasn't any trouble but they were all too drunk to do any thing by the end of the night. Nothing beady about my eyes, they were both sitting proud and wide open. The girls knew we were looking as they we doing it for us. God, i love being in a band ;-)
16. They sound like a right bunch of yahoo twats. Still I bet you got plenty from your BDI (beady eye)
17. And I'll bet that a reasonable amount of prospective Squier buyers will put in a search for Squire anyway. edit : Why is it spelled wrong anyway?
18. I feel I've exhausted the whole OLP thing to the point where it looks like I have a bone to pick (which I haven't) over on mcnash's thread but for me OLP is distinctly vanilla. If you want to even come close to a 'ray tone you need either a SUB or a Sterling Ray 34 - although I have no personal experience with the later.
19. Shielding may help but it should be a humbucker in there which shouldn't give you any problems (especially at low volume) so I'm guessing it might be a fault with the pre. Do you get the hum everywhere (home, rehearsals, gigs etc) ?
20. What kind of niose?
21. Wood & TroniCs.
22. Just to let everyone know Alex is a personal friend of mine, honest as the day is long and keeps all his gear maintained in tip top A1 condidion.... ... He's also the second best lead guitarist in Europe.
23. Hahaha though I recognised that user-name. What the hell are you doing on a bass forum you fanny?
