No but i like it!!! thats a bad ass bass... ou7shined... ive obviously heard of the legendary Pingray before, but do you have a link, or can you tell me more about it...
Yep bad ass it is. If you click on the pic in my sig it will take you to a thread with some info about the spec and build.
2. Wow that's a fair old gap. You want to bring the pole pieces up to about 4mm below the string.
3. The decal looks to be in the wrong place compared with these examples.
4.
I think if it has Jazz shaped body, it's a Jazz.....
Is this a jazz?
5. Comes with a free saw.
6. Them telling you that they've given it a "full setup" means didely-squit. So equip yourself with Allen keys and a Philips and set it up the way you like it... then tell the wife you've got a bad back and play bass all night.
7. The best advice I can give is to get the right tools for the job. Try and find a fret puller or similar (jeweler's snips). They are definitely the secrect to taking out frets with the minimum of damage to the fretboard. Use a sideways pinch and rock movement. You will still probably have to fix whatever issues the neck has as a fretted neck though.
8.
oh, I don't know..I can see quite a few bands and think what on earth is he/she doing there. That sound is awful etc etc .. but then maybe that is the sound they want or that is all they can get. but..it is only from my POV, and since I have a choice to stay or go, it isn't a problem. I am pretty sure that some don't put any thought into it at all but again, that is from where I am coming from. It just might not be the way I would do it. FWIW, no one round here has a great sound, that I have heard recently, IMO..maybe I am so far off the loop, I am the one who is wrong.
Exactly The amount of times I've done a sound check, noted the dials on the amp so I can recreate whatever sweet spot I've found, then when we're up the settings are exactly the same..... except the volume is hoiked up to the max. This one memorable time, gigging with my 'ray (house amp = TE 4x10 combo) and there was a girl band on very early on the bassist had a 'ray copy (Vintage or something) and she used "my" amp settings. It was a complete disaster. Even the cloth-eared punters were appalled at the nerve shattering mid hump coming from the bass.
9. Of course the bottom line is, once you've got your sound you are at the mercy of stage/room acoustics and what the sound guy considers a good sound. All we can do is try our best.
10. Come off it. That's not a bass, that's a... a.... harp.
11.
this bass looks weird to me how about you it has 23 frets and 2 extra hole on the bridge i thought fender only had 3 or 5 http://reading.gumtree.com/reading/20/65315320.html i know it gumtree and not ebay
Have you been drinking?
12. for the win.
13. Use in a well ventilated area.
14. Knob related PM on it's way.
15. Proof that Pre EB 'rays are like busses. You wait ages for one to come along and 3 turn up at once.
16. Do you have a spare pot you could temporarily swap the offending one with to check it's ok?
17.
...Like it or don't like it...come or don't come.. that is my attitude to the audience....
That's a bit rum considering they've paid to see you.
18.
An interesting view and not one that I am criticising or saying is wrong but an audience will have as many variations on what they like in a bass sound as we do as players. Hence you as the player (unless you are a session player and told what the sound required is) are deciding what is the best tone for your audience, which you are entitled to do but then again if the next bassist happens to think 'I prefer this sound' does that mean the audience are getting short changed? Just throwing the thought out there for consideration!
Yep that's a really good point. You were making your point based upon your missus' interpretation of the best sound. All I can say is that I get a kick out of knowing that I've tried my best in every respect to offer the audience my very best effort in tone, vibe and entertainment value. Other bassists have different priorities and that's fine. We get little thanks for our roll in the band and I always enjoy those moments when the bassist has more people come up to him post-gig to shake his hand than any other member of the band.... and that feeling goes through the roof when he is congratulated (albeit subjectively) as being the best bassist on the bill.
19.
I'm more surprised you have so many people in the audience who 1) know what the bassist does & 2) notice the difference in the tones! Ultimately if the difference is slight I'd go for what feels comfortable as personally I play better on what feels right
And herein lies the dilemma. However, if the difference is slight offer the best you can, create new muscle memory and eventually it will feel natural again.
20. For me it's tone all the way. We are the variable in this equation and we have an inherent ability to adapt. We have a duty to the audience to offer the best we can. They don't care if if we find the profile or balance a bit off. Just because a bass is less comfortable to play than what we are used to doesn't make it impossible to play. I prefer MM/P necks but if the last bass in the world was a super thin Jazz neck I'd adapt... and survive.
21. If you're not getting any hum when you take your hands of the bass then everything is fine. If you do need to soler it on then just attach it to the back of that pot (bass pot I presume) with that has already got some solder on it.
22.
I agree about the look. One reason I was never drawn to the SR5 (or the OLP version ) was that I hated that pickguard with passion. I also prefer slightly wider interstringdistance, but that's something I can just get used to relatively easily. Thats why the SUB5 I'm getting in (counting...) 9 days is soooo appealing. Despite the aluminium scratchplate and all. I think the oval scratchplate look is just... beautiful
Yep me too. I just can't get past the acres of pickguard.
23.
I used to feel the same… Bart's never used to do it for me, BUT, with the right wood choice and craftsmanship they just seem to work. They always felt lacking something, but when a set of Bart CB's wen't in my Roscoe… wow! The whole thing came alive. Maybe they just suit the fretless tone great, but I definitely have a new found respect for them!
I find them a bit dark but like I say maybe that's just me.
24. Nice one Mike. The grain pattern has worked out perfect - like an artists impression of how it should be. Not being a big fan of Barts myself I might have been tempted to go with Nordys. I think they are the same dimensions so it might be worth playing about with later.
25.
.... GAS stinks...
Yep.
