How about something Parkerish like this? Very easy to do.
No no no. As soon as you put that under tension from the strings bits will pop off.

Someone has actually bid on it too.... allegedly.
It'd have to be a pretty awesome sandwich. I do love sandwiches though.
Yeah a Boutique sandwich.
Yeah, it is. That's exactly what it is. The whole thing costs $5,500, and the bass without the pickguard costs $5,000. Do the math. You want to make a sandwich, the ingredients cost £4.00. You decide you want to add some cheese to your sandwich, so the ingredients now cost £5.00. That's exactly the same thing as the cheese costing £1.00.
You'd pay £5 for a sandwich?

Sterling Ray 34 - Stingray from the Far East
Ou7shined replied to stingrayfan's topic in Bass Guitars
+1 these SBMMs do seem to get bashed....
They've not been bashed in this thread at all, in fact the only negative comments on them came from the OP. I myself was just asking for clarification to the claims of why they're percieved to be better than a bass which new is well over twice it's price and as the OP pointed out has better hardware and finish. I didn't know that they didn't have MM pups (I guess I'd just presumed that they had) which says a lot to me about where they stand on the tone front. I'd honestly love to know why they are rated highly against real Stingrays. I guess going by one comment on here, the only thing I can do is try one out and earn my right to comment. -

Sterling Ray 34 - Stingray from the Far East
Ou7shined replied to stingrayfan's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm confused. This review (which I appreciate the fact that you have taken the time out to write btw) seems to applaud the 34 for being a compromise on all but tone which you prefer over the real Stingray tone (which I guess means that you simply don't like the stingray tone. What is your stingray tone anyway? You are selling an Aria which you say does a good stingray tone... I digress) and the neck which is better but the same but different. And the basis of comparison for the review is against a rogue Stingray that obviously had issues (it had 6 "setups" which couldn't fix it - I suggest it needed more than "set-ups"). I am genuinely interested in the SBMM because I am a big fan of SUBs and 'rays and I'm interested in knowing where the 34 sits in the equation - I suspect it is a huge step up from the OLP but still under the SUB but haven't heard it said yet. I don't see myself ever getting one as I am very happy with the real deal (and have self-built something which, on the QT may even rival it). I am happy for you that you like it over a 'ray but I just can't work out why. -
I've enjoyed this debate. It raises a great question. Would you buy say a 3 grand handbag as a present or a Fodera bass for someone else (not related to you) or would you buy them something nice yet adequate? I think that what this running argument boils down to is that you have some people who enjoy spending their accrued wealth on themselves because they justify worth based on how luxurious an item is. And there are others who's sense of worth might be more acutely directed towards "bang for buck" and where best to allocate funds. Presumably (in theory) if they were in the same situation financially they would put it to better use, perhaps buy something "nice yet adequate" for themselves and put what's left over toward something that is needed more. Can you get a nice bass and dialysis machine for the price of a Fodera? Luxury is something you have to pay for. Do we need luxury. No. What is luxury? Luxury is a level of service or comfort. Is a 3 grand handbag more comfortable than a Primark one. No. Is a Fodera bass more comfortable than a 2 grand custom made job? No. Does it even sound better? No. These luxuries are displays of how comfortable their life is in general. And as these items perform an identical physical function as their cheaper counterparts, presumably the "enjoyment" comes from knowing that others recognise these displays.

Strap Screw lost off of its bite :(
Ou7shined replied to civictiger's topic in Repairs and Technical
That might get you into trouble if you ever need to take them out again.^ edit : I was replying to College. One of the easiest fixes is to pop a matchstick or toothpick in the hole and then send your screw home. You could accompany the matchstick with a bit of wood glue but leave it overnight before putting the screw back in. -
Plenty of love for Shuker from me. Don't think I've ever seen one go for that cheap before. Snap it up.

Why would you?

Selects are passive. It's just switching from active mode to passive mode ie. placing the pre-amp in and out of the circuit. I had some Hohner "the Jack" bass Jazz pups in a custom 5 build once and although obviously not top-end thought that they were great pups - very loud too. Don't believe the anti-hype. Maybe you could look at a different pre-amp.
