1. If only it were a 15 string instead of a 14.
2. It would have to be something that covered a lot of bases very well. Er... this...
3.
Can you fill me in some more on the preamp and what kind of tone I can expect?
Alan's preamps are for want of a word awesome. You get a [s]broad[/s] phenomenal range of modern, top-end tones with just about any frequency you lust after dial-able. You are not just talking bass, treble, vol here so they do require a minute or two to sit down and digest the almost infinite possibilities that are at your fingertips. And in the right hands you can do sweepy wah-wah tricks with it too.
4. Yeah that site is obviously gathering marketing information on us. Trojan horse detected! Bad tactics. *clicks CCleaner*
5. Do you a want 70's J for the different 70's bridge pup position or just because it's from that era? Btw I bought a '78 P body for £35... admittedly it turned out to have a bloody great neck humbucker rout added at some point in time which had been filled with cataloy and will now have to be dealt with by me. edit : Ah posted just before me - you want the 70's spacing then.
6. How did it come to have a thinner neck on it? Is that what they did for the 50th Anniversary? The only thing that put me off my CIJ, apart from the reverse tuners, was the railway sleeper neck - although to be fair I got pretty much used to it by the time I sold it on. My Shuker and home-made versions intentionally don't have that "authentic feature".
7.
The headstock's the best thing about that.
Nah the colour is.
8. Not a big fan of hollow bodies but doyouknowwhat, I would... if it weren't for the massive centre-parting/fishtail headstock.
9.
Geography test for JapCrap fans
The bridge is a bit skew-whiff.
10. +1 for Squier... although I was going to say Precision to get that classic tone. Stuart Zender from Jamiroqui used to play Warwicks (and Precisions) so maybe a cheap Rockbass would cut it - although I'm only guessing about this as I know three fifths of nothing about Warwicks.
11.
I would. Never found one I liked.. At ALL! Then again I can be a tad picky
Best bang for your buck by a million miles in the sub £400 range with a huge varietry in tones. How can you go wrong?
12. G&L L-2000 Tribute. You/he won't regret it.
13. The battery in my 'ray lasted about 14 months last time.
14. Not much to report guys. It's all looking sweet but I need to order up a last tin of lacquer for the final push. Matt ; I do that tomorrow.
15. It is usually assumed that the part of the pot casing that touches the control plate or in this case the pickguard shielding is taking care of earthing it. If you want to do an effective shielding job you should consider lining the entire cavity.
16. It looks to be as per the diagram right enough. You could perhaps do with trimming down your cap's length a bit so you can eliminate the possibility of it touching something it shouldn't once you got the control plate all screwed down. 18 is some sort of body earth. Do you have dimmer switches or fluorescent lighting near by?
17.
...which means...?
this - sometimes called "warbling" too
18.
Doesn't stop me spending way more than i earn though ;-)
Me too (mind you that's not hard ) but living in Aberdeen you get used to the fact that everything bass related that you need or have GAS for has a P&P charge added to it.
19.
...Its funny but living in the centre of london you would think i would have everything on my door step but its not like that and quite frustrating.
Oh boo-hoo. signed Angry of Aberdeen
20. I just can't get with Lakland bridges. They look so... stuck on.
21. I'm guessing that nets are frets? ... edit : or nets = "nut is".
22. Wow I never knew Ashdown did a "made in the USA" range. You learn something new every day. Seems odd that it ended up back here in Blighty. I guess the economy is such that it is more cost effective to pay a US workforce to build them and ship them here rather than paying English (or even Chinese) guys to do it. I used to be a big fan of Ashdown ABM cabs - great sound with the right amp.
23. I can see where a 3eq would come in handy. I used to play in a Pearl Jam trib. One night I took along my 2eq 'ray instead of my usual P necked Jazz. BIG MISTAKE! The prominent classic 'ray sound just didn't suit that style of music at all. Lucky for me the sound guy recorded the gig off the desk so I got the chance to relive the nightmare over and over again . I'm pretty sure no one else noticed (in fact I even had a bass geek come up and compliment me on my 'ray during the gig ) but I think a 3eq probably would have sat in the mix a lot better.
24.
Definitely
