You could have a special white room just to keep it in like Lennon's white piano.

Somehow I knew it was going to be that before I even opened the thread (full title isn't shown in Gmail). Saw this one earlier on t'tbay.

Worth every penny if you ask me. Probably makes you play better too.

Skjold 92' Custom AAAAA Flamed Maple 5 String

Running a passive bass at full volume just makes it louder but with active bases you have to be a bit more careful. I can't plug my Stingray into any recording equipment, laptop etc. at top whack as it is just too hot and distorts.
That would keep me busy for a while!!! Although, in fairness... I didn't say OLPs were better... I said I preferred them. Slight difference I still find my main OLP extremely easy to play. But then it's been really taken care of and I've been playing it constantly for a while, so maybe I'm just used to it. I knew you'd be one of the first ones to jump into this thread!
That's just it any make of bass when properly set up and tweaked to the players preference has it's merits. Bung a 'ray pup, 'ray pre and a 'ray neck on a toilet seat and you'll get something that sounds like a 'ray but where the a Stingray excels over the likes of OLP (I'm not saying an OLP is toilet furniture per se ) is consistency, reliability and (for the connoisseur in you) built quality and of course "that" distinctive tone.

Hallelujah Now can you go back and edit all your posts claiming OLP is better than MM please.
Sorry to resurrect, but I've been digging around for clarification on why people are replacing sold prices with 'SOLD' and sometimes even replacing the whole first post with 'SOLD' so you dont know what it was or how much it went for. As a buyer it's really annoying to see this. I can't see any real reason to remove the sold price but to remove the whole subject and first post, well, that's just awful. why would you do that? I dont think it fits with the community vibe at all. I noticed posters arent calling out questionable techniques either (like selling something only recently bought but making up some see-thru story), nor posters that sell gear and dont update their threads (yet mention the sale in other threads, for example). I know it takes all sorts to make a world, but there's no excuse for some of this slack behaviour. my 2p. please excuse any implied horridness, it isnt meant that way. peace out!
Whenever I see that I always think "What are they trying to hide?"
Ou7shined - I've had a quick look on the net for Bill Lawrence bass pickups and drawn a zero. The Fralins always have a great rep. Thanks for the suggestions. The OPB-3 mentioned just opens up another can of worms. Which preamp (if any) to use). Oh dear.....
Yeah they are quite rare. I think you may have to directly to Bill himself to get them made nowadays. I think he goes under the name of Wilde Cat* Pickups or something (I'll have a wee hunt about). Very worth it though. *Little known fact-ette - something to look out for with supposed Bill Lawrence pups is that at some point a business partner bought him out and started using Bill's name on sub standard (well to Bill's standard anyway) pups. So only the ones signed on the back are really his (mine have signatures plus he put on wee USA flag stickers) the rest are factory knock offs. I suppose I should mention that I have my BL pups going through a Schack pre-amp. They are even harder to find than genuine BL pups so perhaps my recommendation is a bit... er... niche. The Fralin/OPB-3 combo is vastly more attainable. Also I have never tried Delano J's but I do have a bass with a Delano P in it which I am very impressed with.

Yep. Someone's screwed up.

Starting to get worried - Courier problems

Good stuff. See it's not worth the worry. I try to ignore the tracking details unless it gets excessively late (or I am shipping to someone else) because it just becomes a watched pot. -
Very low output from Jazz with both pups on.

If your soldering iron starts to lose it's efficiency, scrape, sand or wire brush the tip until it's shiny (then re-tin it) and make sure that it is held securely in the shaft. 25w is fine for this kind of work. Be careful with that 40watter as you can melt the wire sleeves of the wires you are working on (and even melt sleeving in the vicinity) and kill heat sensitive components - they're ok for tacking stuff to pot casings etc. but again be careful not to over heat them. Contrary to logical thought, too hot a soldering iron can set up a barrier between the thing you are soldering and the solder itself and it will just leak up the soldering iron. -
I bought a BNIB Aguilar OBP-3 off Jose. A great guy to deal with... great taste in music too. Cheers bro. Rich.

I have Lindy Fralins (+ an OPB-3) in my Jazz 4 that I use for rock and.. they.. kick.. serious.. ass !! I have Bill Lawrence J45s in my 5 string Jazz and they are phenomenal. I'd find it hard to compartmentalise them as just rock pups... but the first time my band heard them they $hat.

It's always a nightmare when basses get held up in transit - your imagination goes into overdrive. I try and put the whole shipping process out of my mind nowadays to avoid the stress... although it's hard. -
I've never heard anyone complain about poor battery life. Have you spoken to Alan about it?
anyone know how ebay react if you buy an item with that description and then put in a claim saying it's not what it says it is?
Should be cushty as long as you make it official within the stated time limit. I have even heard of the buyer getting a full refund plus getting to keep the bass.
If someone has bought this, idiot or not they have been stitched big time!! Ebay and the seller have had em over. I was not the only one who reported this stitchup, and ebay sent an automatic thanks but buggeroff reply. Also, i emailed the seller to say they should adjust the misleading pitch. Reply-"dont know much about these, and i have mentioned that". Not good enough scumbag!!! I have often wondered why people on here get so pissed with ebay. Eyes now open.
Proof that it is a scam. How can you say you don't know much about something right after someone has given you some correct information about it? But as I said earlier the clues are there for a wary buyer. You don't even need specialist knowledge, just compare it against a picture of the real thing.
all the user names are five charecters long, coincidence?
I have a strange feeling those names are randomly generated. I've checked bidding histories for stuff that I'm bidding on and my name didn't appear in the list but my bid did under a different name.

I can never work out if it's shill bidding or not but I witnessed it go from 220 to 280 in 3 bids in a matter of minutes earlier.
